@@coltspiller4446 I've replaced a cam shaft position sensor at 53,000 and stater with rotor at 76,000. Everything else has been regular maintenance. It's in top condition and been reliable.
A perfect bike! That's an afirmation.. I have one of these beauties, and made a minimal modifications and little power increasing (from 150 to 180hp), with an injection maping. And esteticaly, the delayed footrests, front suspension and handlebar lowereds, the exhaust outlet, and a double bubble windshield makes this super sport touring into a very powerful, muscle and beautiful superbike..
Excellent comment Pablo! Your bike seems well sorted out. The FZ1 in this video was recently put on the dyno (a very reputable dyno shop) and made 130 hp to the rear tire. This is after an exhaust upgrade and ECU remap. It is now much more responsive and more powerful according to the owner! Thanks for stopping by and telling us about your bike!
I have a 05 fz1 with ivans jet kit. I have owned many different bikes. Driven properly it pulls to 150 and tops at 170. And fora full grown fat ass like myself, the "wide" seat is very comfortable.

@@eaglescout5816 😆😄 Yeah, I'm 150lbs so definitely a lightweight. You're bang on when you say I pretty much hang on for life (LOL), but it all depends on the ergonomics of the bike. I've ridden a lot of bikes now and most are litre sport and naked bikes and it's about half and half when I feel like I'm hanging on for dear life. The FZ1 was so comfortable and I felt secured riding it and it had all the power I would ever need for being such a comfortable bike. It's a great package.
How is the throttle low speed on off throttle and the clutch transmission shifting? Where is this btw...out in the country? So FZ09 has more Low end grunt?
@dry509. Yes, this was out in the 'country' (where no speed limits were broken *wink* ). Yes, the FZ09 definitely has more low end grunt. The FZ09 triple is an awesome engine. Yamaha really hit a home run with those. However, the FZ1, as I mention in the video, is a lot more refined with a perfect combination of mid range and top end power. Both have become 2 of my favourite bikes that I have ridden! As for the FZ1 low speed on off throttle, it is very smooth and very linear. Shifting is very smooth as well. I say it again, it is a very refined bike and well mannered.
604Bluelight Since this video was made I have changed the front sprocket from a 17 tooth to a 16 and it made a huge difference. It should have come with that sprocket in the first place.
@@CaribooRealtor Can't wait to test ride it again. Hopefully soon! Although we now have a FZ09 in the 'family'. It might be hard to match that type of brute low end grunt. Even my vtwin doesn't feel as bruttish down low. One day, I may just start modding the SV1k. ;)
I can't comment on 2009+ Z1000 as I have not ridden one but I can say that I have ridden a 2003 Z1000 numerous times and in comparing the two, the z1000 is a more nimble, more flickable bike than the FZ1. It feels smaller and lighter. The FZ1, however, is a faster bike for sure. It is a more refined ride and more comfortable. Both bikes are equally enjoyable.
@@604Bluelight yeah the one I was looking at is a 2006, but im pretty sure it will be less comfortable than my fz1 was (stolen in toronto). my mechanic says buy a vstrom 650. I might. while I like fast, I think comfortable is more important, but I dont really want a cruiser as I like to corner.
Nice with the 2nd camera, I put one in a similar spot. I think I'd take this before a fz/mt09, I just don't like those bikes. I feel like I'd be spending a ton on the twin and triple to make it right.
Thanks @Gizz. This bike made me gizz. The second camera isn't the greatest as you can see with the jelly effect. I would probably put it much further away from my face if possible for next time. FZ/MT09 are great bikes. Looks are subjective and may or may not be for some people, but the engines are amazing. You really have to take one out to test ride to really appreciate them.
You HAVE to try that triple. It's all that it's cracked up to me, and more... even in the heavier FJ-09 that I test rode. Instant power wheelies in A mode (if that's what you want).
I should try it, something maybe nice to try but not own! Fz/Mt geometry and suspension is f'd up to be doing wheelies like that with the level of hp and tq. And the throttle control was another issue I'm not sure if they sorted out yet. I think revzilla said it was unrideable stock, lol. I do want to try a Honda parallel twin, see how smooth it is. And if it's not smooth see how heavy the ctx1300 feels. It needs a review!!
The suspension and throttle issues you describe on the FZ-09 were largely sorted out on the 17+ models. The 2014 was notorious for it's jerky throttle and soft forks. I've seen some for sale on CL with upgraded suspension already. There is also a shop in Vancouver that does flashes for the FZ/MT bikes, so tuning can be sorted out locally :)
The bike has been sold a few years ago but as far as I know from the owner, it has never had any rotor problems or ANY problems at all. It was and still is a great bike for the 16years of it's life!
sorry to say that a lot of bike reviews from USA and Canada are pretty pointless, riding the likes of an MT10 on a 5 mile commute through traffic in a city does not do the bike justice, likewise this review is on long straight roads doing very average speeds, really a 125cc bike would be no different in those situations, its unfortunate that they do not build roads with bends over there, my canadian cousin lived in the uk for a while, he bought a party Alfa Romeo, did 100mph on the straights, but slowed to 10 -20 for all bends.
Thanks for your thoughts @Moira McIver. You have good points for sure. There are, however, many fine riding roads in Canada and the US, it's just unfortunate for me that they are very far away. Cities and towns here are very sparsely spaced so there are a lot of highways in between. But the mountain roads are amazing. Having said that, I am not the greatest rider and not even close to it, so there won't be any peg scraping and knee dragging for me.. especially not wearing full leathers. This review is about how the bike made me, an average joe with average skills, feel. Now put me inside a car on twisty roads, it would be a whole different story :) . Thanks for stopping in Moira! Hey Chris. I'm shorter than you and I found the bike very easy to maneuver. However, I am very used to 'big' bikes as my SV1000 is quite tall as well. My inseam is also decent at 29 inches and I can have the balls of my feet on the ground but far from flat footing it. Don't be intimidated by that though., the FZ1 is very easy to ride. I'm 6'4" and have a 2001 FZ1. Have taken it across the country touring. Now that I'm getting older my knees arent so happy so I'm thinking about dropping the pegs an inch or so but honestly great bike all around.
Oh definitely night and day Mark! I think I was merely comparing the engine braking between the FZ1 and other i4's not necessarily the SV. The FZ1 was more apparent than other i4's which I really liked but not anywhere near the SV1k. Thanks for the comment Mark.

@@604Bluelight that depends on how you look at differences between gen 1 & gen 2. I got the last year of the 1st gen (2005) & I can't fault it. The gen 1 has even more relaxed ergonomics, softer seat, softer suspension, slightly less power, maximum torque at lower rpm & a bigger gas tank than the gen 2. So gen 2 was made to be sportier than gen 1, but it lost a lot of the practicality of the gen 1. Both are still great bikes even by today's standards & that's just a testament to how well the first generation was when released back in 2001.

Hi @Wight walker 245. Thanks for the comment. When I test rode this FZ1, I had no issues with fuel injection 'snatch' at all. In fact, it was quite smooth compared to many other bikes I've tested. This model year is a 2008 so they may have improved it by then.. ?

2006 was the production year with the reported problems of throttle snatchiness. I haven’t noticed any issues with this one.
