I'm growing sage in a container, outdoors. I put it in the sunniest spot I could find, and I don't have many, but it's growing. Sage loves sunlight!

I grow many different sages. I love the smell of sage. I have purple and variegated sage. I have a beautiful mexican sage and ornamental ones too. but my favourite is the large leafed Sacred Sage. I recently bought Salvia Alpiana seeds and it is definitely slightly different and delightful smell. I love the way the scent stays with me and i smudge with it too. Love from Ireland ☘

I took cuttings of sage and had them sit in water to help roots grow before potting them. 2 of 3 we’re doing well & now I just have 1 left that is thriving. I also planted 2 mature plants. Both were doing great & 1 I’m not sure if it will make it. Plants do go into shock so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. The one planted sage bush that continues to do well has even flowered. So that was a pleasant & most welcomed surprise. It is nice to see the bees stop & say hello to the plant from time to time 🙂

There are over 400 varieties of sage. They are not just desert plants. Go to Wyoming or South Dakota, sage grows like crazy!. Both of those states have harsh winters.
I love what you are doing with this channel.
And the Grandmothers will tell you about how sage can be used for many things besides smudge and cooking.
    Keep up the good work.

Smudge Ceremonies should be kept very simple. And can be done anywhere by anyone. Even non-natives.

Thanks.i would recommend not drying in the sun-the uv in sunlight will degrade the plant, and also you may lose a lot of the oils/volatile compounds.better in a dry, shady place or even only indoors, if it gets moist at night(or move indoors at night from shady, dry outdoors).
of course, this may also depend on your environment, how hot and dry it is where you live.if you are in a very moist or northern environment, drying in the sun may be ok....best wishes, and thanks again.

I’m here bc I’d like to grow my own instead of purchasing it, as not to contributing to its large commercial harvesting that’s endangering it, money can limit which sage you buy so why not try growing my own - thank you for this video - thank you for all you teach and share 🙏🏼
Also do you all sell seeds, cuttings, whole plants? I mention whole plants bc I’m not much of a gardener and I feel like whole plants might aid in a greater success rate with growing and harvesting at home 🤷🏻‍♀️

I grew it fine from seed but after I overwintered in straw it didn’t flourish the 2nd year when I needed to collect seeds. I’ve had people say it can survive and flourish after a freeze but that’s not true. Ok so grow it inside in a container. Right? That won’t allow it to go dormant in winter - does it need that dormancy? That rest? To be strong enough for the 2nd year , to be able to produce flowers and good seed?if not inside is my best option I guess. I’m in Mississippi.

I know sage does not like too much water. Perhaps it sits in too much moisture over winter there? Have you tried a raised bed? Lavender is similar and I grow mine in raised beds and pots. I cover them over winter so they don’t stay wet.

I produced with a professional and there's no way to do with cuttings, germination rate is less than 10% (in the best condition). That's the true about white sage (salvia Apiana)
