  • There's nothing quite like an old, worn and well played-in Martin acoustic from the 'golden age'. Well, perhaps not 'nothing', as the Martin has long realised the desirability of its legendary vintage instruments and in recent years has undertaken a lot of work to produce guitars with as much vintage appeal as possible.

    I did buy this guitar. I have 50 years of guitar playing and a few other guitars. This one sounds like no other . I got it to fit in with the other Martins at Bluegrass jams, and to have something liter to carry. The gig bag makes it lite too and I can put my tune music books in the pocket . Careful though, standing it up on end or the side it likes to fall. But it's kinda like a pillow in the case . Had no problems.

    Brilliant sounding guitar! Also great work on the recording, I was curious what microphones you used? I always chuckle a bit when the official Martin channel just throws an SM-57 on the soundhole of their guitars- you can't really capture the nuances of a fine acoustic guitar with an SM-57!

    I just purchased this guitar. I have a 00015m that’s 22 years old. I repaired the back because it cracked.
    My 22 year old appears to be played but, nothing near the street master finish.
    Just really shiny in a couple of areas.
    I like that the street master doesn’t have a pick guard and since I have a hard case already. The gig bag will be easier to carry on my Harley Davidson motorcycle since it has straps like a back pack.

    I’ve owned this guitar for a year now and love it more everyday! I agree completely with this review. Luckily, I had a hard case already. One thing that should be mentioned, the mahogany wood, even tho is beautiful, is very fragile. I’ve already had to have mine repaired from simply bumping into a chair, and it completely cracked the wood.

    So what does a guitar sound like if it sounds dishonest? Just exactly what do you mean with these terms.P.S.mine came with a hard case and metal butter bean Grover tuners, so it might not be a Street Master but looks and sounds the same other wise my first Martin bought it used.Nice review thank you.

    • @AcousticReview
      @AcousticReview  Před 4 lety +3

      Well it's easier to say what I mean by 'honest' - it's not a 'flattering' guitar, not loads of ringing overtones, a focus on the fundamentals, simple but good like a home cooked meal. I guess the opposite would be something like a modern-voiced rosewood and spruce jumbo that might have a more lush sound, where single notes produce lots of overtones?

  • @dandunning7731
    @dandunning7731 Před 3 lety +17

    The lack of a hardcase has put me off this guitar. I'd rather have the standard 000-15M for less money and with a hardcase. Seems like an odd decision for Martin to make - apparently they justify it by saying that a "street guitar" means a gig bag is better-suited to the instrument but that just seems like an excuse.

      A lot of people don't want a hard case if the guitar comes with one, especially if they gig/travel often; it gets heavy to carry a hard case all the time. With diligence, you can keep the guitar safe and sound in the case they provide is my take.

You didn't EARN the holes.....and YOU should wear the guitar out...not buy it that way.... So what if someone bought a 1970 Fender Deluxe Reverb that is a bit beat up to go with their 1965 Fender Stratocaster that has battle scars and a worn finish? Did they earn it? They certainly didn't wear it in.
      So what's the difference?
      Not saying that I like the new guitars that Fender makes that are beat up looking. I actually think Fender goes overboard.
      This Martin is very tastefully finished. It's not sanded, scuffed or scarred up. The antiquing on the tuners looks great. I actually thought the finish was a type of burst at first glance. Martin didn't go overboard, like scuffing where the pickguard would be. I doesn't have a played finish, but more of a lost in a closet for 30 years look to it.
      I'm not trying to be argumentative, just adding my opinion. We do agree on the relic crap that is in style.
      I have a '98 US Tobacco Burst Strat that is nearly mint and I love it that way. I'm trying to find a 73 Deluxe Reverb (year I was born), I want the best condition as possible. Also, my Strat left the factory on my birthday. Dunno what the odds are of finding a Strat in the finish, fretboard that you wanted that was stamped with your birthday.
      Anyway, I'm babbling... LOL

    • @Tull1996
      @Tull1996 Před 6 lety +5

      Hey John H.....lol...yeah....I see your point...maybe I phrased it badly.....if you buy a true vintage guitar....that's different...the "scars" are "real"....I guess when I see these type of things come straight from the factory on brand new guitars, I just don't dig it....I mean...if others do, I think that's great for them...I was really just speaking on my own personal tastes (I tend to try to keep my stuff as pristine as possible (within reason)....also not being argumentative...so if it came out that way, I apologize to any who took it that way. :-)
      Nice guitar, btw (98 US Strat...did you LOOK for one to be your birth date, or was it just completely a coincidence?). And yeah...if you could find one of those ORIGINAL amps.....that'd be fantastic...those old Fender's were nice....Good luck!

      I found the Strat that I wanted, color, fretboard, etc... Then noticed the sticker and stamp under the neck, zoomed it and there it was, Mar 03 1998.
      Kinda weird dumb luck, right place, right time.
      I was gonna buy it anyway because I was looking for a '98 because that's the year I started playing guitar again after quiting for 2 years because of a hand injury. Seen my birthday and bought it as fast as possible.
      I do agree about the relic stuff being sold. I don't understand who would buy a guitar that looks like it was dragged behind a truck. The relic look doesn't even look like realistic wear. It looks like someone beat the shit out of it. Fender is really bad with it.
