      @@ProcyonDei still a horrible way to end the franchise. No closure, no final goodbyes from anyone. And its not even particularly scary or anything. Like it would have been way cooler if you went down on earth and dead space 4 was you trying to stop the moons from destroying the earth, going adn trying to do shit to markers to see if you can distort the signal, working with military groups to take down some of the moons, have a bunch of people rally around Issac and have him give people hope. THen, there are two endings: the hard to get good ending and the bad ending. If the player did everything right throughout the game and made all the correct decisions, prioritized the right targets, etc, then they end up reverse engineering the markers to push away the moons and send them off into the galaxy. Maybe it's setup like this is only a temporary solution, but at least you're safe... for now. If you don't do everything right, then it was all for nothing and the human race dies, but make it a satisfying death with actual emotional weight. Show all of the party members in the game being sad about death or whatever, and then essentially hint that there is another ending that could have been good

      IMO it should have have a better ending that actually felt final. Maybe, while humanity does die, they manage to mortally wound The Brother Moons. A Dead Space that is finally at a peaceful rest.

      Divine Iconoclast dead space 3 ending felt rushed but your idea doesn’t make it any better, really? Reverse engineer the markers? Isn’t that what they already did that yielded them the red ones? Their markers are already reverse engineered. And a happy ending if you struggle against a cosmic horror abomination? What is this? Mass Effect? Next thing you know they will add an ending in which you get to pick the colors of the end. Look What I’m saying is not everything has to have a happy ending, no matter how hard you try, it would’ve been better tho if they gave you some more time of the story to organically process the whole evil moons thing, maybe add some moon imagery to the alien planet or something like that.

    Can you imagine if the human enemies worked on the basis of:
    -heavily armed and accurate, getting shot does ~33% damage to you.
    -Heavy torso armor means almost no damage there
    -Legs can be targeted to immobilise and stun
    -Arms can be targeted to reduce accuracy and force them to use one hand
    -head can be targeted to do massive damage (dont make head big so there is reason to not ALWAYS aim for the head)
    Human enemies could have worked really well if not executed like paper bags with water guns.

      it's a "double-edged" sword, if there ever was a dead space 4 continuing Awakened, than it's a cliffhanger as Issac and Carver hallucinated the whole thing, but E-BroMoon Arts closed visceral and chances of having ds4 so we can asscept it as the end, remember ds1 first chapter letter spelt NICOLEISDEAD, I don't remember if there was anything in ds2, but ds 3 had "brethen moons are awake" or something, and the DLC spelt RIP.

Instead, make it so that in the big battles he catches up to us, most of the time he's going through other paths (imput whatever reason you find appealing here, as long as it works as an excuse to have Carver near us but not WITH us it's fine), talking with us to share small character moments, and then on big open battles he joins us, maybe include some of his backstory after some big fights, or add cutscenes with him as a focus outside of co-op. If they worked around the solo campaign like that, it would've been cool, tho I guess they didn't cus having to rework a single player game into a co-op one later into dev was proven such a challenge that making the single player mode it's own thing was too much for the team

    Here’s a few ideas to tweak the setting to make sense:
    Earthgov sends Norton’s squad to retrieve Isaac because he survived two necromorph incidents and he has knowledge on the Marker. Isaac brings Ellie along as a supporting character because of her similar technical know-how. Carver goes with Isaac because he’s the only other one capable of keeping up with Isaac. The whole lunar colony exploding scene can be completely stripped out, and instead just jump to the SC fleet outside Tau Volantis.
    Sovereign Colonies are a splintered Earthgov sect that went rogue a few months/years after the Sprawl incident. That way the unfolding helmets and all the hacking minigames aren’t chronologically confusing. It also makes more sense for the necromorphs to be active on the planet. The SC uncovered the alien ruins which also in turn awoke the necromorphs, after all.
    Unitology, also thinking Tau Volantis is the marker homeworld, send out a large team of paramilitaries to check it out after the recent outbreak. This also justifies Danik to be on the planet.
    Everything else can play out pretty much the same, except now there is a lot more continuity and reason rather than ad-hoc excuses and really poor character motivations. Ellie could be a lot less whiny and just play a support role like Alyx in HL2 or Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite.

    • @blank4227
      @blank4227 Před 3 lety +16

      good suggestions but I would have Ellie drag Isaac like the game already had. She definitely doesn't need to be in a relationship with a different character, though that was just cheap drama. I agree Carver should still be the co-op partner since his hallucinations added scary elements to the game, and there should be novelty to the characters.

    • @Jebsucks
      @Jebsucks Před rokem

      I don't think the Sovergin Colonies need to be brought forwards in time, the feel of exploring the frozen-over remains of a 200 year old arctic expedition was one of the few good ideas that DS3 had. Necromorphs are just kinda fantasy undead in space anyway, so no explanation is really needed for why they're still there, the Markers are still running, so they still have power and were just waiting for some new living flesh to show up so they could try to complete Convergence again. Really all that was needed with the expedition was just fixing the tech details so they feel 200 years older. Monitors instead of holograms, lots of physical controls for things, really just taking the existing things they did to differentiate them and taking them farther was all that was needed.
      Really pretty much everything in the past for DS3 was good, the problem was all the love triangle and uncharted nonsense that happened in the present. If it were me, I would have it be Ellie dragging Issac along on an expedition to Tau Volantis from the start, with her wanting to stop the Necromorphs for good while Issac just wants to put it all behind him. Having Carver be the co-op character could still work, or Ellie could be the co-op character, since nobody is immune to the Marker's effects the same hallucination gimmicks could still be used (and really a more active role would suit her a lot better than being an Alyx clone with how she was in DS2). From there, just focusing on trying to uncover the planet's history and what the SCAF found there that they were so desperate to bury is all the plot you really need, the nonsense with Unitologists could be scrapped entirely and all that would be lost is some bad cover shooting (though I have seen proposals made for how human enemies could be made to feel more in line with Dead Space's normal combat, mostly making them way tougher and higher damaging with an emphasis placed on disabling them with limb shots before you could actually kill them).
      The ultimate form of the Necromorphs- enemies that you fight with mining tools for the most part- being a *moon*- something that the ship from the first game was designed to tear apart- is just begging for the finale to have a return of the Ishimura to do what it was built for in my opinion though. It would be a lot less ridiculous than fighting a moon on foot and literally throwing markers at it until it dies at least.

      This made me nostalgic for LP1/2, but it also made me remember Lost Planet 3.
      I think that game had a lot in common with DS3, though it also made me thankful for all the Dead Space stuff that was actually in DS3 past all the EA-induced muck. It had good voice acting, solid controls, good graphics, and even a reasonably interesting story with decent characters...but, and here's the summation of the issues: you have one mech throughout the game, and it never has any guns. And I hope you didn't like that awesome grappling gun, because that's gone, too.
      The thermal-energy stuff had a really important gameplay role in the first two games. It healed you *and* extended how long you could keep going before freezing to death. Want to stay alive? Then fuck up those bugs with the glowing gonads containing all the thermal juice you need to keep going! The story element about the importance of the thermal energy seamlessly incorporated into gameplay.
      But LP3...when I heard one of our fellow energy-miners say that we weren't allowed to mount weapons on our suddenly BattleMech-sized robots due to company regulations, I thought, 'Oh, alright. It's been established that we go on to rebel and start the resistance forces that, among other things, were on kickass artillery-trains come LP1/2, so no problem. The point when we get to slap some big guns onto it will just be all the more satisfying after having to go fisticuffs for most of the game.' But that moment never came. The mech was mostly just a means to get from location to location and fight boss/mini-boss battles. The action was overwhelmingly on foot with a fairly small set of weaponry.
      It's just...damn. It's sad to see games with such strong pedigrees just kinda peter out like this.

    I feel like someone with a high enough rank to have pull in the development of the story didn't understand the importance of scale.
    First, the prologue takes place 200 years ago...wait, what? Why? Everyone in the original incident died on a frozen asshole of a planet. There's no issue of survivors that need to have been given the time to die of old age, so why so much time? It could have taken place two WEEKS ago and everything would basically look the same. The idea that the Sovereign Colonies existed prior to an old civil war in the lore is irrelevant. They could've just existed as some hyper-militarized holdouts of EarthGov's takeover some relatively brief time ago, and the fact that they were wiped out by necromorphs is actually a surprise to the main characters. It's basically the Mines of Moria twist: in desperation, the protagonists turn to them for help, only to discover that this mighty bastion was already destroyed, leaving them in an even more dire situation than the one they left.
    But nope. Instead, apparently the necromorphs needed ANOTHER outbreak even before the goddamn prequel with Michael Altman, and it needed to be a bafflingly long time ago because apparently technology, even SOFTWARE, has been stagnant for two hundred years.
    Second, the scale of the Unitologist revolt...I get that they're influential, but Dead Space 2 made a very specific point of showing how extensively they screen their members so nobody can see just how goddamn insane their core beliefs are. Even if you didn't collect the audio/text logs, you could see it in the architecture of the Unitologist churches: they started off really clean and presentable, but as you got deeper and deeper, you got the really cult-y stuff, not to mention the goddamn corpse freezers. So why in the hell are they suddenly capable of waging, and apparently winning, a war against EarthGov? Again, in Dead Space 2, they relied overwhelmingly on subterfuge. The most force we ever saw them bring to bear was a couple of thugs that jumped and physically restrained Issac, and even THAT was juxtaposed with an EarthGov gunship arriving and MINCING THEM. But two minutes into the game, we're expected to believe that the handful of soldiers coming to escort Issac to whereever are quite possibly the last remaining EarthGov military unit, and that mankind is teetering on the brink of total collapse. Did Unitology REALLY have that much martial strength all on its own? And why was that even necessary? The whole game, with the exception of the prologue, takes place in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. There's already a ticking clock to stop the necromorphs. What difference would it have made if Issac's group was followed, ambushed, and bloodied by a Unitologist militia on Tau Volantis, and the reason why they can't expect any help from the rest of EarthGov's military because they're too far away to get there before the necromorph whatever happens?
    This game just has so many 'But why?' moments.

      You know what's really funny?
      A single gunship, from a single dude, owning a single city of a massive multiplanetary government was completely untouchable to the unitologists in the second game, and fucking destroyed them without even trying.
      I guess the Unitologists destroyed them all off screen and rebuilt to be completely able to take on Earth gov off screen with nothing but crappy rifles that can barely pierce an engineer's armor and suicide bombers.

    • @MachineMindDesigns
      @MachineMindDesigns Před 4 lety +21

      Concerning the Unitology bit, there were lots of references in Dead Space 1 and Extraction (would say the animatic comic series, but Extraction is a part of those and we play in it) that they had quite a lot of funding to the point that they have a large number of Mausoleum ships and had tremendous sway with miners to the point of zealotry. We never understood the whole indoctrination process until Dead Space 2, and I believe that the way that church was set up was due to the majority of their recruits being blue collar workers and the mentally distraught. This theoretically gives them the manpower and ships needed to, at the very least, cause one hell of a ruckus when given the go ahead by those in power. The problem with how Dead Space 3 implemented it all is that the insurrectionists don't act like a cobbled together force of blue collar workers using makeshift vessels and weapons (or "illegally supplied ones) being ordered by higher up powers for which DS 1 and 2 noted heavily was the case, but instead came off as an organized militia being lead by a random somebody who looks like he wouldn't be part of the upper echelons of Unitology. Now, the chance of EarthGov getting a good thrashing from a revolt would also not be off when one considers how there are Unitologists within EarthGov......if the numbers were high enough to allow for a destabilization, but it was pretty clear in DS2 that they and the Uni-heads have a distrust towards each other. This would naturally make EarthGov very suspicious, if not paranoid, of a planned revolt by the Uni-heads and would have multiple contingencies against one (hence the Gunship and the use of the Solar Beam from DS2 and the plan to have the Ishimura nuked by a military light cruiser when they found out about the illegal mining operation in that area in DS1.....when most illegal mining operations would usually result in EarthGov turning the cheek since it brings in more resources anyways). In DS3, they came off as morons without a plan despite knowing of Uni-heads shenanigans and the depths they'll go for their cult.

      I still find some fun in Dead Space 3, as well. It's defiantly the worst in the trilogy since it discards everything that made it unique in favor of being everything else, but, then again, EA had unbelievably unrealistic expectations for a horror game series. It didn't help that they wanted to turn Dead Space into this multi-media franchise instead of it just being it's own little thing.
      Regardless, Dead Space 3 is still a well-made game. It's stupidly unbalanced and easy to break as Mandalore explained, but its still fun with a buddy and the Lovecraftian-esq ending was pretty ballsy to take. I just wish it didn't cost Viscreal everything to produce. Rest in peace, Redwood.

      i wouldnt call it the "worst of the series", but more like the weakest entry, its not really a bad game in anyway, it has alot of content, some very fun(if broken) weapon crafting system, and the coop brings that whole "lets kill those things in the most over the top way", that i missed since Serious Sam.
      however, for every good step foward, EA forced them to take 2 steps back, and that's what happened.

      C4underground dead space 3 is actually better than fear3. Even on singleplayer, that bullshit game levels and rankings and constant messages on screen like I am playing some even shittier version of call of duty totally destroyed the game for me. Immersion, investment, mood/world building and isolation were the keys to previous fear entries, which the third had nothing at all. Say what you want about ds3 and you might be right, but at least singleplayer on classic mode was somewhat interesting. Omfg, I am still butthurt about it lol

    Was listening to the part about how occasionally in the multiplayer the players will see or hear two different things and it sparked an idea in my head. Could you imagine a dead space game that focuses on two new characters and the game is structured similarly to "A way out" with an even similar ending that forces one player to take the life of the other.

    I love this review since it's easily one of the more fair ones out there. I was a big fan of the Dead Space series and while I agree that this is the worst of them there was still a lot of fun to be had. Far from a bad game, but it certainly had some expectations that it didn't live up to. As a side note, when the game first came out I roped a friend in to buying it to play co-op with me and he had no prior experience with the series. He enjoyed his time with it, so I'd definitely agree that for someone just looking for a 3rd person action/horror this is a pretty good game on it's own legs.

  • @muratgaev9310
    @muratgaev9310 Před 6 lety +136

    Dead Space 3 actually has only problem - EA. As a publisher they had a 100% self sufficient IP with somewhat unique gameplay and aesthetics. The recepie was there. But for some reason they decided to make the third installment as generic as possible to appeal to the masses. Which is cute, considering why Dead Space became so popular in the first place. It reminds a lot of what they did to Mass Effect 3. They had the same goal of outselling the previous titles. Multiplayer focus, loot boxes, more action, all that stuff. But ME3 was still a very good game. I don't even think it has bad ending, it's more like the whole game is an ending to the trilogy. Probably Bioware still had enough creative freedom to carry out the game. And Visceral obviously had not. It's nice to see that EA never learns (Andromeda and Battlefront 2). But EA (and other publishers) will try again and again, and one day it will work, because at some point there'll be no gamers in the active player base who remember that games were different in the past.

      Finally someone who agrees with me when it comes to mass effect 3.
      Dead space 3 in the other hand was a good game, but a weird dead space. I know some friends who played it without any previous experience in the series and really liked its universe and hidden story, even though the main plot was bland. That demonstrates is a good adventure title. What disappointed me the most is that when I was waiting for it to came out I hear about the filtrations which claimed that Isaac would be more insane than ever, even with split personality and I got hyped as fuck.

      i disagree with the last point. We are winning with loot box, unfinished releases, all publishers across the board are losing money now. They learn or they DIE, don’t think giants don’t die, THQ did and now they are a AA dev team. Can’t wait till the day Blizzard bought itself back from Activision, all the creator of Bungie left Activision, Treyach found their own studios, Visceral returns to create a new universe as homage to death space and continue from there, Arkane getting back to making creative RPG, and Obsidian new not-fallout game succeed.
