AMOY Quick Stupid Review: Harley Benton SC 500 WH Guitar - good guitar, but how cheap is too cheap?

  • I've seen a number of reviews of Harley Benton guitars, but I've never had one myself. Now I have one. I bought this guitar specifically because it looks like one of the guitars that was used by Randy Rhoads; namely his white Les Paul Custom. Unlike a Gibson or even an Epiphone, this Harley Benton is unbelievably cheap. I really can't figure out how they can make a guitar this good (it's good, not great) at such a low price. Makes a feller wonder...

Is it a good guitar for beginners?

Yes... but I would recommend, for a beginner, to go to a local music store and try out some guitars before buying. The problem with Harley Bentons, in the US at least, is that they have to be ordered from Europe and the shipping cost is a fair percent of the total cost of the instrument. You can find a $200 Squier at most music stores in the US and they are GREAT instruments for beginners. If you are in Europe, then this would definitely be a good guitar for a beginner.

BUT..look up how many species of mahogany there is, i seriously doubt that that is a pine wood, the chinese and there translations usually are pretty crazy. i have a series sc500 and there is no way my fretboard is pine of any kind it would be pretty obvious if it was.

Yeah, honestly was taking a shot in the dark based on what they listed. Which made no sense anyway LOL. I like whatever it is, I just wish they would take the few seconds to list it in the specs. Just did a quick google search for "Chinese mahogany wood" and Toona sinensis came up, which is used in "musical instruments such as guitars". I'm just unnecessarily obsessed with them getting the specs right 🤣🤘

@@keithavarney170If Thomann said the specs, they will be right. European stores are legally required to have the propper apecs and info or the governmental agency's that deal with consumer issues will rip them a new one...
