The success will come. Wish you the best. As always Great content!
Nice shots!
I do like collecting minoltas and canon FD lenses myself, so this was really nice to see. Thank you for sharing. 🎥🎬⛩
"I perfectly converted a Minolta Rokkor-TC 100mm f/4 lens with a 43mm filter thread to Canon EF by disassembling a Leica-R adapter. Interestingly, it was the simplest thing to do; the main challenge lay in precisely drilling the four holes on the Leica-R adapter to attach it in place of the MD bayonet. The end result was a perfect infinity focus.
Now, I'm working on developing a simple conversion for the Rokkor MC III lenses using a Canon macro reverse ring. However, this requires a lathe, as once converted to EF, it will never go back to MD.
Best regards, K-Reca"
Nice edit and shots, sir!
Thanks! 🙌🏼
You got a great price on that lens. The going rate for a clean copy (no fungus, haze, scratches) is more like USD200. It's rare for it to pop up at less. Still a great price though.
wow sorry to hear the tokina 28-70 broke for you.
Love that lens on my FP right now. Actually that combo has gotten me a ton of photography gigs lately even though I'm mainly a videographer. It's incredibly versatile
Love the video tho thanks for continuing to show us cool, affordable lenses!
Great informative vid, thanks!
At the end of the vid you state that the Rokkors are not ideal to convert to Canon EF. What's the issue with using an EF adapter?
I’m sorry but nothing beats the Angenieux 28-70 2.6
Nice review. You should take a look at the 2 best FD zooms Canon made; the 28-50mm f3.5 and 24-35mm f3.5.
Great find! Which adaptor are you using for the A7sIII, Metabones, Fotodiox, or something else?
Surprisingly. These ones are really good. Never had issues with infinity focus: amzn.to/3Tc3BKm
Yeah, I have a Tokina RMC 35-70mm with constant f3.5. the focus ring is soooo smooth with a big rolling pad for grip and the zoom is smooth too.
parofocal?
What mount adapter are you using for the sigma fp?
I have a Fujifilm X-T4. What adapter would you recommend to use with this lens?
Heej justin, what are your thoughts about sony fx30 vs sigma fp. I am doubting the color, low Light and auto focus.
Hi, have you tried the Minolta MD Zoom 35-70 F3.5? I've filmed a ferry trip with it on my Fuji for a day and it seems parfocal. The front element rotates and the VND usage has been a pain. I've ordered a fixed ND64 filter with a thread adapter for brighter daylight, planning to keep the lens for the Japanese film vibe🙂
Justin, did you also tried it on your Sigma FP ?
Thanks
Catching up. Attractive little lens. The thing is, I never zoom when filming. Having the range is great, but all the issues with actually zooming while filming simply don't apply. Except...maintaining the f stop. Which makes this lens desirable.
I've made a 3d printed adapter to convert this to EF with infinity focus. Works really well and all you have to do is pull out the four screws on the back, mod the aperture ring a tiny bit, and reassemble. I think I might start selling them on ebay or something. I like the lens a lot too. Such a small lil thing
you definitely should! Minoltas are gaining popularity by the day!
Minolta To EF convertion

@@JustinPhillip Hi I've got this lens fully converted to EF. I've also made kits to convert nearly all the primes in the MC III line to EF. If you'd ever like some free conversion kits or to barrow the converted lenses just let me know!
Can you put a slr magic adapter on it?
Definetly a lens to have. tanks
My favorite vintage zoom is my Nikkor AI-S 35-70 f3.5. Seems to have a lot of the same pros and cons as this little guy.
Thanks for this interesting video! I have a Minolta MD 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.8 but cannot find any information about this lens, as if it didn’t exist! Do you know this lens?
Interesting lens! Looks like it was released in 1985 and has a macro mode! Very lightweight! 225g, wow! Looks like it was made by Cosina. Here's a little write-up on the minolta zooms of that era: www.subclub.org/minman/287035.htm
What is the difference between the MD and the AF version that makes the AF less desirable?
Funny enough, some folks prefer the AF lenses, apparently the optics in those lenses are more desirable for some. But it has a weird mount, SA or something like that. Sony has an old electronic adapter out there, but a lot of rehouse places are sourcing the Minolta AF glass and rehousing it as well for cinematography work. I think for adapting to modern cameras, the older MC and/or MD Minolta lenses are easier to do so. Because the old Minolta mount is far easier to source than the SA mount for their AF line. And if you dont get the proper electronic mount, you won't be able to change the aperture.
It looks very similar to my Tokina 24-40mm f/2.8
You should try for the fp the LUMIX 24-70 and 70-200. no breathing, sharpness.. Heavy.. amazing But expensive 😅😄
Was there a time and Date without Ken rockwell?
ND filter used is way heavier than needed and polarization is obvious in many shots. Couldn't get a feel for the lens based on this.
Its okay to let certain highlights clip than make the entire image look unnatural. Are you exposing Sony like you expose Komodo? Sony can hold on to more highlight info even if you over expose.
Where do get your lens CLAs?
Steve's Camera in Culver City, CA. Licensed Tech, handles all of Duclos' overflow at half the price!
