  • Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is one of the classic 90s cartoons to capitalize on the trend of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And boy howdy, is this show mighty fun.
Grab a glass of sarsaparilla and saddle up!
I’ll explain the premise, the first episode (called “Bang ‘Em High” which is just beautiful), and go into some of the fandom. There’s also a bonus mention of Street Sharks.
Stay tuned to the end for a solid minute of me making off-the-cuff cow puns. I was having a great time.
    Upcoming Videos:
-A video about a strange CZcams trend that is DEFINITELY going to make some people uncomfortable.
-A fun tidbit of space-related advertising history.

Just wait until you find out about cult classic superhero show Manimal, starring Simon MacCorkindale! It was canceled after a single season but then the Manimal returned in an episode of NightMan, an even worse and somehow even cheesier superhero show in the late 90s. I have sat thru so much superhero TV; from The Flash, Up Up And Away, and Lois & Clark to Superboy, Arrow, Iron Fist, MANTIS, and Black Scorpion. And even I can't make it thru an episode of Manimal. It haunts me. And now I'm not the only one who will wake up to Manimal-themed night terrors

We had Street Sharks in Australia (the show, not real sharks on the street). Parents would talk about Power Rangers being violent but tbh the aesthetic in Street Sharks just "felt" violent if that makes sense. Those transformation sequences add to that feeling. It's always kinda funny to see US specific shows like the cowboys show, considering how much US media we get here.

    • @PugMugsly
      @PugMugsly  Před rokem

  • @barry-allenthe-flash8396

Man, on the one hand, this was another awesome video of yours (complete with the puns at the end).... on the other hand, I _knew_ I would get the theme song stuck in my head just hearing someone talk _about_ Moo Mesa, even without actually dedicating any time to explaining how good that theme is! Which you did, as one should, and the theme is now totally going to be with me for at least 24 hours (or until I knock it out of there with, like, the theme from 'Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers'😋). Those cartoon themes really were incredible! Thanks to the Toy Galaxy channel (which, really, mostly just covers old TV shows and cartoons now), I now have brain space dedicated to, like, which cartoons Shuki Levy did theme songs for. I recently saw that Tubi had "Arthur and the Knights of Justice" on there, and I literally said out loud, "Hell yeah I'll watch that just for the theme song!" haha. _No. Regrets_
Biker Mice from Mars is ALSO pretty fun as far as TMNT clones go, though it too has a lame theme song like Street Sharks (nothing can touch Moo Mesa). That thing the C.O.W.Boys did to the train is wonderfully ridiculous, but there may be even more silliness in Biker Mice. I swear there's one moment when two of them are fighting a giant underground robot and they defeat it by riding their bikes in a crisscross pattern in front of it, then leaping up, and high fiving right in front of its face, causing the thing to explode... because it can't handle that amount of awesome-ness, I presume? Seriously, to confirm it's something that I didn't make it, I just found the moment and it is.... lol: czcams.com/video/RJGUW_z2SXY/video.html

Nacelle toys is making a shot at reviving this franchise, coming next year they have some toys. Right now it's 3 figures: Marshall Moo Montana, Sheriff Terrorbull, and Cowlamity Kate. These are NOT like the old toy line, these are premium figures, it's why pre-ordering the whole set of 3 is around $105...it's $104 and some change before tax and shipping. Each figure comes with accessories, a different head to change out and different hands for holding accessories...my favorite thing is Cowlamity Kate comes with an old fashioned wild west wheel mounted gattling gun. Nacelle also has the rights to Biker Mice from Mars, which they have the 3 main characters and they are coming out with their motorcycles soon too...also they are working with Maximum Effort and Ryan Reynolds to make a shot at reviving the cartoon and I've heard rumors they want to take a shot at reviving this show as well...no word on who might work on it. Also some of the characters made a cameo in TMNT back in the 2000s when they went to the future and met April and Casey's son...they appeared in a danger room style setup where the TMNT fought them at first but then April and Casey's son (a tech genius) was able to fix the hack in his system (since he made the room for the turtles to train in, in the first place) and the TMNT teamed up with the C.O.W Boys to fight the villain. There were also crossover comics for TMNT and Wild West C.O.W Boys back in the day too.

I don't want any beef. At least you didn't butcher them. I'm not having a cow. At least I can be seen and herd. Let's steer this in another direction
I would agree with your theme song picks and add DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Doug, TaleSpin, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures. I'm sure I missed many but that's how good we had it. "Funnie" enough I just happened to think about Doug recently too. I happened to see the Jim Jinkins USA Network ad that featured an early appearance by Doug and Porkchop in a Duckman video. I always thought that was Doug's debut but actually it turns out there was one before that. While Porkchop did debut in that ad, Doug first appeared in a grapefruit juice ad of all things. Porkchop wasn't in that one but Lorenzo Music did the VO. It's very easy to find if you've not seen it
But yeah, I always think of the line "I'd eat my sugar cereal but it makes my teeth bacterial" whenever I see a Magic Spoon ad. And considering how ubiquitous those have become it happens a lot

@@PugMugsly It's a great animated show( and they've had video games, comics and a toy line, too). I personally think that it's the best rip-off of the TMNT that I've seen yet. I want to do my own independent comic books and I'm even going to be doing doing graphic novels for a TMNT parody and a He-Man parody and if people call them TMNT
and He-Man rip-offs, I won't mind that because they're meant to be TMNT and He-Man rip-offs. As long as people think that the characters are GOOD rip-offs and they like the characters and they like the story, then that's all that I care about.
I always say that it's fine to rip something off but just make it a GOOD rip-off and then it can evolve and grow into it's own thing and develop it's own fanbase. Marvel's Deadpool was a rip-off of Spider-Man and DC's Deathstroke The Terminator, Thanos was based on DC's Darkseid and Metron of The New Gods and even the TMNT themselves, were based on the grim, dark and gritty Daredevil comics from the 1980s by Frank Miller( as the creators of the Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird have even said themselves in interviews before).
Mark Twain said that there's no such thing as a new idea and that we all take old ideas to make new ones and I largely agree. I think that most people do
do that but for some reason, they just like to pretend that they don't.

4:16 Only some of each animal got transformed by the comet. In a later episode we see Cowlarado talking to an anthromorphic horse while riding on his normal horse, and in another they herd non-anthromorphic cows.
I never saw this cartoon growing up but had to check it out after picking up a Ninja Turtles comic where the C.O.W. Boys guest starred. Turns out that they are the favorite TMNT wannabe of Peter Laird, one of the Turtles' co-creators. I can't say they're my favorite TMNT wannabe, but having seen the first season and 1 episode of season 2 it's far from the worst one I've seen. For me, half the episodes range from okay to good and the other half are all quite enjoyable. My favorite episode is from season 2, Skull Duggery rides again. The first Skull Duggery episode was pretty good but his second episode cemented this ghost out to kill anybody who even thinks about wanting to take his diamonds, even kids as my favorite villain in the entire series. After his first defeat, he wants revenge on Marshall Moo by turning Cow Town into a ghost town which means aging the buildings to ruin and the citizens to weak elders. He was ready to age an entire town with the intent of aging them to death just to get back at our heroes. Definitely the darkest villain in the show, and one of the best villains in any Ninja Turtles wannabe series.
I am actually a huge fan of most of the TMNT wannabe cartoons, having loved them growing up without ever comparing them to TMNT and even a couple I didn't grow up with that have writing good enough for me to appreciate even as an adult. I loved Street Sharks and I still do, I don't know exactly where I'd rank it but they had a pretty good through-line with their quest to find their missing father which helped keep me invested in the series.

Skull Duggery is indeed the scariest villain in Moo Mesa universe. He's an evil spirit where it's likely that not only did he kill anybody that entered the mines, but suppose he had an entire collection of skeletons and bones of all his previous victims hidden somewhere. And I wouldn't be surprised if he dabbled with the black arts before his death.

As a good example, Marvel Comics and DC Comics have been ripping each off for decades and some great characters have come out of it( like Deadpool, Thanos, The Squadron Supreme, Lobo, Red Tool, Red Lion, etc). Just make the rip-off a GOOD one and I think that people will accept it, resonate with it and be less inclined to care. The TMNT themselves were a rip-off!
Everybody takes inspiration and influence from something that came before them. Using old ideas to make new ones is itself, nothing new.
