They did actually explain it but it was like a passing by blink and you will miss it kind of thing. They said that his abilities are mental and telekinetic in a sense. Gabriel can't speak on his own, so he manipulates things to speak through, like cellphones, radios and tv's using telepathy like broadcasting his mind to it or something. In the first scenes we see that the doctors got afraid that he was manifesting his voice through electronics and they made like a remark that he's "getting stronger" meaning he wasn't always able to do that and later I forget what scene it was, they mentioned the telepathy type of ability but not directly. I guess they didn't really want to focus on that. I was looking out of that bit too while watching it in theatre like ok if this is all in her mind, how do we explain the actual electronic stuff and then boom I heard it.

Why was Gabriel able to control electronics? How did he Gabriel turn invisible in the beginning when he made the couch cushion move? Why was some of the acting terrible and some really good? Why did Gabriel become a parkour expert at the end? I get the extra strength angle but to many crazy things that could used a bit more explaining to make this work for me. Comment contains discussion about domestic abuse:
He makes a comment about 9:20 something seconds asking how come she doesn’t just go on birth control and right away first thing that came to my mind is “he wont let her…” it can sound strange but a lot of domestic abusers will get to where they want to control everything about their victims body and something like birth control unless it was his idea: she could try lying and saying its for something medical but to him it would just come across as back talk. (This is all assumptions about the characters obviously but if he wants to try to pick a plot hole and it can easily be plugged up it should be.)

I work with battered women/men, primarily young ones, and I'll admit a lot of this is accurate however the lack of explanation really takes away from that especially if someone isn't use to seeing it. I've worked with young adults who have been beaten bloody by their partner but they don't go to the hospital out of fear, love, insecurities, a mistrust of the system, shame and so on. Some women have partners that refuse to allow them to go on birth control even though they don't want kids, which seems like it doesn't make sense but it's really just a matter of controlling their partners. Some men will even beat their pregnant girlfriend or wife with the specific purpose of causing a miscarriage and to mentally break their partner. All of these this could have been added to the film to fill the holes in the beginning. You have a nosey neighbor who could have laid the ground work for somethings then there’s the conversation with her sister plus you already showed that he attacked her while she was pregnant and she tried to stay away from him before he even pushed her head against the wall. It’s all there they just didn't execute it well.

That's not how things work. Directing is mostly camera angles and telling people what to do, which I don't think he has professional knowledge on and wouldn't do very good. Only big name directors get to have creative freedom when it comes to the script, most of the time the writers will veto a directors change and just move on. 99% of the movies you watch nowadays have very little influence from the director.
Freelance script writing is a thing, and provides the most creativity put into a movie. Producers and executives basically control everything about a movie now, expect for big names like James Won.

The only thing I had a problem with was that the movie tried to make parasitic twins and teratoma synonymous, which they’re not. A parasitic twin also called “fetus in fetu” is when one twin consumes the other and now the consumed twin feeds of the dominant one. Sometimes you have to “give birth” to your twin so they can stop feeding off of you.
A teratoma, however, is a tumor that can sometimes be mislabeled as parasitic twin since it almost looks human. It can grow hair, teeth, nails, etc. but if I remember correctly it can’t grow internal organs like a brain, or a heart.
I know all this because a few years ago I randomly got obsessed with doppelgängers, then twins, then parasitic twins, which is how I found out about teratomas.
Since they share a brain, and Gabriel is able to feed off the fetuses and energy, I would say that he is a parasitic twin (like Basket Case that a lot of people have already mentioned) rather than a teratoma.

in a relationship like the one she was in where derek was immediately apologetic and offered ‘remedies’, i’m sure it would be easy for him to manipulate her and find a way to ‘make it up to her’. i’m sure he’d complain about condoms, and find a reason to get angry at her for taking birth control. we know that he was keeping maddy away from her family as well, which would make it easy for her to feel like she had nowhere else to go. there’s also the very real possibility that she didn’t consent to having sex or a baby. but regardless, i just don’t think this is something to nitpick

It is though because the story’s of an abuser never leaving is getting old and the excuses for it are played out.

So many things seem ripped off of Lights Out. A child patient in a phychiatric hospital is electrocuted and gains supernatural powers, also is an "imaginary" friend of another patient. Even the antagonists look similar. These are only on the surface though.

well... unfortunately the thing about abusive relationships is that you sometimes don't have a choice whether or not you sleep with them.

For the her sleeping with him bit. He could have been coercing her into sex or flat out assaulting her. It happens a lot in domestic abuse situations, and even in other relationships. Unfortunately, it's a lot more common than people think. That could be why she was pregnant so many times in one year, and if he was as abusive as shown in the movie, I doubt she would have been able to get birth control, let alone successfully take it without him noticing.

Yeah I hope @Foundflix sees these comments pointing it out because abusive relationships are insane and scary. There are plot holes in the movie but that wasn't one. A friend of mine was stuck in one and she was lucky to get out alive. But having pointed that out, I still adore this channel and the content he produces for us!

    • @blackivy7582

@@MidnightWinterWolf I do like his content, but that comment was so callous and not okay to make. Like I know that it is just a movie, but for some people this is real FoundFlix. Bit disappointed man

I will stand up for the main character for one thing you considered a plot hole (around the 9 minute mark): when someone is in an abusive relationship they may feel pressured into having an intimate relationship with them. They might get beaten if they try to say no. Their partner might be so controlling as to not allow them to use contraceptives. This is why I have no trouble believing she’d want to leave him yet gets pregnant.

  • @firstlast822
    @firstlast822 Před 2 lety

The song during the opening beginning montage already gave me action vibes, and the ending action sequence solidified that it was more like the beginnings of a super villain/hero's awakening story than a horror. Something dark, and gritty like Spawn.
