Using fabric and tape as a hinge is way simpler than mine, love it!! Realized this after I finished mine. Thanks for the shout out Bob, pretty special coming from you.
Its great when two (or more) great channels do the same project (accidentally, as a collaboration, or even as a competition), it gives us (the viewers) choices and allows us to pick and choose techniques and design; e.g., Tyler's design with Bob's hinges or Bob's design with Tyler's built in fan....Or make a Matthias Wandel designed project with pocket holes (JK) Thumbs up to both videos.
What do you mean "with pocket holes"? I thought his videos were all just how to make pocket holes.
Kidding though, his channel is great and he's got an entertaining sense of humor.
Yep, glad to watch both of your projects and thanks to Bob for giving me and my son another channel to watch! Keep up the great work, looking forward to catching up on DIY Tyler's videos now.
I always love the projects you do and your ads are the best. A count down timer and you keep the build footage going. More CZcamsrs need to be this clever with sponsors.
Love the simplicity and usefulness of this project
I love how you encourage people to watch others do the same projects. real cool man. big fan and me and my wife have been binge watching your channel. keep making stuff so we can watch and do some of it ourselves!
Perfectly simple design. I have been thinking of doing this for a while, (you can only get so much overspray in the garage before you get in trouble), but the hinges have been what have been holding me back. Your fabric/tape hinges are perfect for this! Thank you
I like how simple yet effective this is. Also, by changing the dimensions, it can be customized to suit one's needs. Great project!
I really like the picture-in-picture sponsor information. It lets me keep watching your awesome builds and gets the message across as well. *thumbs up*
Your recent method of ad placement is so much better than in the past. I never skip the 5 seconds that you're talking. Great video. Keep it up!
I've only just found your channel but i'm immediately impressed you point your viewers to other people's channel and encourage them to 'shop around' for the solution that suits them best
I love the way you do your sponsors advertising, not so invasive and has a timer running in the lower area of the video. really nice
also great video!
Thank you!!
This is so brilliant, practical and useful! I feel like every DIY woodworker needs one like this. Especially me with my small workshop!!
Thanks Bob!!
Glad to hear it!
Same. I prefer this one. Makes a nice weekend project for me.
The ad format is good. I like being able to still watch you working.
I love your videos! Also good on you for bringing up the other DIY video. It's so cool to see you tubers supporting each other and being nice!
Great build! Awesome that you mentioned Tyler at the end of the video.
hehe xd
lmao hehe xd
Excellent idea! I really like the cloth hinges. Clever solution! I think I'll be adding one of these to my shop in the near future! Thanks, Bob!
Watching you flatten out all of those bonded surfaces was incredibly satisfying. You put me right to sleep and I don't mean that in a bad way.
Great job integrating the Casper sponsor without detracting from the build- It felt very natural.
Thank you! I really appreciate that :)
Bob, I love the new way you are handling the ads. Thumbs up!
Sweet. Extremely useful, quick and easy to build.
DUDE! YES! This is something i needed for a while in my little shop. This will be build this upcoming week. THANK YOU for making this video.
this idea is just super... i wanted to build a box for my "office" and this is by far the best idea ive seen so far.. Simple, and i love it!!!!!
Another neat build that can be done quick and cheap. Thanks for what you do.
what is the deal with the first letter of your name picture?
+Brandon Wallinger For some reason, when I got my new phone, my profile picture changed itself. I didn't notice until you pointed it out. I just changed it again.
Thanks!
Bruce Ferguson ah right
+Brandon Wallinger I didn't download and sign into Google+ this time, so it didn't carry my picture over.
I like the size of your box and the hinges great job Bob!
Thanks Mike!
I love the way you can fold it down to store away. I have the same problem as you where space is a premium. Great job.
Nice build. Something I need in my garage. Will check out the other one you mentioned but I like the portability of yours.
Love your builds man, they really simplify my life
I enjoy watching you videos to aid me to find solutions to problems i.e. in this video you used that stuff from your outdoor sink video to make a hinge, as well how you perfectly lined up the velcro patches!
Great job, Bob! The collapsible feature is very important for small shops, thanks
Hey Bob. I've been ruminating on how to make my current spray booth collapsible to reduce its footprint when not in use and I'd come to a similar idea to yours. Having watched this I'm inspired to go and implement the plan asap! The cloth/tape hinge is something I've done before but had not thought of for this. Thanks a bunch for the reminder!
Great idea and acomplishment. I will certainly make one like this one. Congratulations.
And then a hero comes along...
Just what I needed, and almost within my skill set to make. Thanks for a great video!
Been looking to create something like this as well, and I must say this one was really well done. Have you tried it outside yet, and how does it protect from dust in the paint? It has kinda been an issue of ours when doing Gameboy mods, that dust sets in the paint. Also love the way you integrate sponsor ads :) Not obtrusive!
Thanks so much! I don't have too much trouble with dust outside here, but you could always hang a drop cloth over the opened side after painting, to keep dust out while it dries. Not sure if the fan would cause a problem there or not.

Great portable paint booth I've been thinking about something like this for the same reason that you mention and this is perfect. I saw Tyler's paint booth and it's nice but I know I'll use this set up more. Thank you for sharing
I like how this turned out. Great Job!
haha, love how you were changing your mind about adhesives as you went. I can't wait to knuckle down and do this
Bob, your so inspirational and your content is amazing. Keep up the good work!
Wow, Thank you!!
This couldn't have come along at a better time, I've been thinking about building a small spray booth in my shop, now I think I'll sort it sooner. Great video as always 👍
Very cool Bob. Awesome idea for small spaces!
Thank you!!
Both approaches are pretty good, but watching both made me appreciate your video skills. Awesome, entertaining well done videos, Bob.
Thanks Victor!
Outstanding video. Gave me some great ideas for my spray booth project. Thank you !!!!
I decided that I needed one of these this morning. Perfect timing.
Great work Bob! I've been thinking of making something like this for a while, but in my head, it was all 1x2 with stretched fabric. This seems like it would be way easier to store, scalable if you started smaller and added tabs in the right places. Another project for the list!
Just finished build your folding paint booth. One modification I added, cut a 14"x14" hole in the top panel and hot glued in a piece of clear diffuser light panel. Works great for letting in more light from the florescent in my shop.
I love this idea! I was thinking of building a portable paint booth and I have a portable table saw stand that I'm going to use as a base so it's easy to move. Making it collapsible like this would probably make it even easier to move and store. Keep up the great content.
very nice man, every shop should have this!
That's a clever solution! good job with the collapsible design :)
Loving the rotary cutter! ;) let's see more of it!
I really like your advertisement timer you add to the bottom of the screen when you talk about your sponsorships. Super clever.
Thanks!
i love the way ur videos ar just short and simple although they quite complicated sometimes i still enjoy watching it cause its cut short and most of the work done is shown through timelapse
Fabric as cheap hinges is a great idea
that is what I would use
So nice of you Bob to be honest about some other person's project similar to you and give your viewers the precedence over views on your sole video. Thank you.
THere's no competition here in my mind, sharing knowledge is sharing knowledge and it lifts everyone up together :)
Thanks for another great idea!! Made the your paint booth in about 90 minutes and used it all afternoon on a bunch of stuff that had been piling up that needed painting.
+William Lockridge excellent!
This is awesome! Definitely looking at something like this for my school classroom. I think there's a lot of potential for you to do a school/makerspace-themed series with stuff like this.
I am looking at this and thinking with a few modifications it might make an ok sand blasting booth. Even if Mike's ideas don't fit my needs, they certainly give me some ideas of my own. Thanks!
Nice job Bob! Tyler has an awesome channel. Thumbs up!!
I need for you to post more
The new way you display the ads is way better than cutting to a whole new segment its a lot less annoying great idea
Great video as always Bob!
Thanks for sharing other ideas, this helps grow the maker community.
i love how you used a heman sword as your example....your awesome with your builds and it inspires me to do the same....will be making a few of your builds and most likely post to you how they came out to get some feed back...keep doing what your doing and always have fun doing it
Thank you, I've been wanting a folding paint booth, this will be great!
Hey Bob, kind of a random question -- how do you add your channel icons at the end of your videos (where you can hover over them and get the Subscribe button)? I want to start using them in my own videos, and looking through the CZcams tools they don't seem to be either cards or annotations. Thanks!
+This Does Not Compute It's a new End Screen tool that CZcams is working on and I'm helping beta test.
support.google.com/youtube/answer/6388789
Thanks! I'll reach out to my partner manager and see if he can pull some strings ;-)
+This Does Not Compute You've got a pretty good channel! Subbed :)
Good idea Bob.I dig it!
Fantastic design!!! I will be build one of these very soon. My space is very limited. THANK YOU!!!
I was really excited about this video! great idea!!!
Great use of the fabric for the hinges! Keeps the weight down i'm sure. Well done!
hey Bob, great channel. for bigger things I use a pop up gazebo. I lay a tarp down, then pop open the 'spray booth' (gazebo) . it works really well and I keep only for sorry work so no sanding or orep work allowed inside so dust is minimised.
leave the compressor outside and pipe in the hose. add a respirator and painters overall and you've got a great dedicated spray booth for very little money.
Great shout out for Tyler, Bob! It's awesome to see a You Tuber who genuinely wants to help their followers find the right solution for them. How about a series of 4 or 5 videos where you both make the same thing independently, and then compare your build/approach/designs at the end? Then we can all learn together. Great channel! Awesome work! Keep on doing what you're doing! :)
This is a great set up !
Yo, you're always making great stuff, but you also deserve recognition for innovating in video making my dude. That advert timer is amazing and genius. I don't feel like I need to skip ahead when I know HOW LONG the ad is going for!
Thank you Zeke, I really appreciate that :) I know the ads are a hassle for people, but they're pretty important to my business, so I'm trying to find a reasonable middle ground for everyone involved. It's awesome to hear feedback on it, so thank you!
Totally get it, that's a big part of making your living. I think you're doing it the best of any youtuber I've come across, and I hope you continue to find cool ways to innovate in content creation. Love the videos!
This is exactly what I need. Thanks for sharing!!
Great idea Bob. I do agree that duck tape should be enough to make foldable hinges but nothing wrong with the fabric;) keep up sharing👍🏽
That seems like a great portable paint booth. Especially like the ease of moving the fan and how you attached the Velcro. Leaving the right amount of space between the hinged portions made for good collapsing booth! Yes I had seen Tyler's then yours popped up so I thought it was a collaboration. If not, great minds think alike right?
Good Job Bob. Need one of theae
Great project overall. One thing to be aware of; the motors on most common house fans can be sources of ignition/explosion if you are spraying petroleum based materials into or through them. There are specialty fans that are designed to be used in this kind of application to minimize the risk, but they are considerably more expensive than a box fan. Water based materials should not present any problems at all. Even with a spray booth, it's always good practice to wear an organic respirator and have a well ventilated area.
I really enjoy your channel and projects. Thanks!
This is great. I've been wanting to make a paint booth & this is a perfect design. Thank you for sharing.
I watched your other paint booth video & you mention that you want to keep the flammable fumes from passing over the electric motor. How is that prevented for this booth? Does the filter catch that or would a charcoal filter help with that?
Not sure if you've used that advertising technique before but i really like it (coming from someone who really hates ads). This and the humorous ways Steve Ramsey does it are the best so far imo.
If you are looking for something quick and dirty, check out the folding cardboard display things you can get at the big box or office stores. They only have 3 sides but if you grab a couple of pieces of poster board, you can just set it on one and lay the other on the top.
Best of all, they are really cheap. I think I paid about $5 for one and two sheets of poster board.
great idea. i have been looking at both the video's and there is much to say for both the designs. but i think i will use both the ideas to alter it a bit for myself. point is in my case i am working with metal objects that need to be spraypainted, and i loved the idea of being able to hang them in the spray booth als i am currently hanging them in my little shed / shop. as it allows to turn them while painting. however, with metal objects i need to make sure that the top and at least one of the longer sides is stonger to hold the weight.
also i need to figure out if i can actally get a reasonaly priced box fan or not to big fan here in the netherlands, including a replaceble filter.
but again. really love the idea on how you solved this. the fabric hinges also make sure that there are not to many 'open' corners where the paint can go through.
very cool paint booth. I need something like this in my shop. Thanks for idea.
let this be a lesson for all other sponsored videos, picture in picture is definitely the best way to go. The ad section didn't actually interrupt the content of the video, but I still got to hear the advertisement. Great method for all parties!!
Nicely done, thanks Bob.
I really enjoy your videos although I never build anything. You are just such a relaxed guy and watching you make stuff is kind of calming. :P
This is freakin cool! Brilliant buddy!
Been waiting for a cheap idea thanks bob
Awesome idea, this is brilliant if you can't justify the space for a permanent spay setup in the workshop👌🏼
Nice little paint booth, great video :D
thanks Bob great video, definitely adding one of these to my workshop
I was just thinking about indoor spray painting during the winter. Very timely.
Awesome! I'm a "blind" artisan (legally blind due to being born with glaucoma) and I create decorative plates which I use spray paint for and I had built a portable paint box out of white foam board but I was left out in the weather by accident and well it died after a bit. I used hot glue to connect the foam boards together, using hot glue in the joints it wasn't collapsible/portable. Your build gave me a great project idea. I have melamine and tons of fabric!!! Thx!!!
Was watching your one video of 2013.. How you have changed ... And specially this beard look suits you a lot.. Then and now... your videos are like very enthusiastic now a days love to watch your work... Btw I am a big fan of your channel... Thanks for all your hard work....
This tape is expensive where I live. The overall material is actually pretty cheap, so it's a great build. Thanks for sharing, this will surely come handy around the shop.
That was pretty awesome to make!!
Well thought and executed..well done...
Genius as usual, my friend.
This was awesome, love this idea. Is the fan strong enough to filter out all the overspray?
Good one Bob. I was thinking of doing one in a big plastic bin, but I like this idea better. It'd be much easier to store when I don't need it. A PVC frame with a drop cloth surround is another option if you need to go bigger.
Jon Stewar
Absolutely love it. What were the dimensions of the cut pieces?
I have been thinking about something like this for a while now but on a much smaller scale. It's such a pain having to go outside to paint something. Thanks for the tips, I might have to give this a try!
Perfect, very nice.
What kind of filter should I be looking for? Not sure what to ask for when I go shopping for it. Thanks!
