The Man With The Child In His Eyes. Just for Jay 🤞
It's a brilliant piece of work considering when she wrote it, but I'm keeping mum about that until they react to it. 😁
Kate is an icon and to me she can do no wrong.
Even The Beatles laid a half-dozen eggs.
I concur 100% and Cloud busting was i believe about manipulating the weather ? our govt does it and its not good
“The song is inspired by Molly Bloom stepping out of the black and white, two-dimensional pages of James Joyce's Ulysses into the real world, and is immediately struck by the sensuality of it all.” - Wiki
I always got the general idea of the song, but I never knew which specific character or book it was supposed to be. Thanks!
Yes I said, yes it is. Yes
It's based on Molly Bloom's soliloquy in Joyce's Ulysses where she becomes more positive and says Yes to things.
@@debbicook1584 I think Kate asked for permission from the Joyce estate to use the soliloquy, which was declined, so she did her own homage.
@@nickbrandwood8911 Permission was later given, resulting in Kate's "Flower Of The Mountain" on "Directors Cut" 2011..
It takes a lot of genius, and courage, to make music like no one else.
Yep. It's easy to see why great artists like Björk, Fiona Apple and Joanna Newsom admire her. Even Prince was adored Kate. 🔥
One of the things I love about Kate is her reverence and deep appreciation for British culture
"Oh, England, My Lionheart" 🦁
absolutely. The way she references culture, literature, folklore, poetry and also very difficult subject matter such as the point of view of an unborn baby trying to cling onto life and oxygen in a nuclear war. Who even thinks of that? Or a mother grieving the loss of her son in combat. She's astounding.
Joyce is Irish, not British.
@@khalidcabrero6204Kate is British. Her mum was Irish but she is British. She’s from Kent.
@@sammccormick9109 Okay, but that has nothing to do with the point being made. Joyce is Irish, so it could be said that Kate has an appreciation for Irish culture, but also for British culture. Like Kate I am English and Irish, and I apppreciate both cultures.
Been a Kate fan since the 80s. So glad she's getting some love so many years later.
Same here ❤❤❤
Kate Bush……unbelievably talented!😊
Keep the Kate Bush coming!! ☮️
This is possibly my favourite Kate Bush song. An impenetrable as Ulysses but it speaks truth to my soul . Totally beautiful.
Kate doesn't belong in any decade she's not 70s she's not 80s not 90s and so on she can't be defined that way.
She transcends popular music
She is the very definition of a true artist , she is practically her own genre, totally unique.
I'm glad a younger generation are discovering her albums.
This is one of my favourites of hers
Kate's an emotion. She's all of them. In my opinion there's only one other artist who emulates embodiment to such realms & that's Tori Amos whom I also adore & actually is the only artist I've ever seen play live.
I must say, after all these years listening to Kate I still get goosebumps when she does that humming vibrato “mmmmmm, yes!” It perfectly mirrors the trill of the uillean pipes being played by Davy Spillane on this track.
This is effectively paraphrasing Molly Bloom’s soliloquy from Ulysses by James Joyce.
Another must-do track from Ms Bush is Moments of Pleasure, which is both joyful and heartbreaking as she reminisces about people in her life who have passed away. Utterly beautiful.
"Moments of Pleasure" is probably the best track on _The Red Shoes_ album, emotional as it may be. I do wish someone would react to "Reaching Out" on the _Sensual World_ album, which is just a clinic on soaring vocals.
It's actually Davy Spillane who plays the uilleann pipes on this track.
@@robbjmc2 Yes, thats’s what I meant to say. Don’t know why it came out “Graham”’
I just LOVE her! The best thing about her (her massive, incredible talent aside)...is her complete un-selfconsciousness...her performances always feel so personal and intimate... few people can do that❤ draws you in
Please don't be a year before another Kate Bush song! An obvious choice: Love and Anger. With David Gilmour and Richard Wright.
Yes! I second that.
And it could also serve as a segué into Dave playing with Warren Zevon on Run Straight Down.
One of my favourites.
Um, Amber...that's David Gilmour of PINK FLOYD!!!
Such a beautiful song, so full of sensuality as the title suggests. Total abandonment to feeling. She's a genius. So glad you both enjoyed it.
I have enjoyed Kate since her first album, every one is different, but The Sensual World is one of my faves. So unique and a true artist.
It's probably her most accessible LP, isn't it? The Kick Inside was a mainstream blockbuster, but it was very weird. The Hounds of love was a hit parade on one side, but then the B-side was a far-out conceptual suite of experimental textures and chilling themes. The Sensual World saw her getting a little less weird and playing with World Music and easily accessible Adult Contemporary styling. "The Sensual World" got some play on local Soft Rock stations near Atlanta when it came out, even. But of course, "This Woman's Work" was the main track from the LP that stuck in America's imagination.
@@MRoyClark I love the weird, moody, dark Kate as much as the pop Kate. When I listened to the Kick inside the first time, I thought, is that song about incest??? Who does that?? Courageous and real!! A story in a song, no matter the depth, is the best! Army Dreamers, Kashka from Baghdad,, Heads were Dancing...on and on it goes.
@@jmuehlbauer42 I always suspected "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" was about molestation or incest, actually. It's hard to read those lyrics in any other way, for me. I thought that was a brave subject to tackle for a 19-year-old. Then I learned she wrote it at age fourteen, which just makes me sad, but even more impressed. But a lot of the best Art comes from a dark place and functions as a coping mechanism for creators.
@@MRoyClark I completely agree. I know that pain and I felt the same reaction,
You gotta react to Bjork “human behavior” for another unique singer
Absolutely!
Yes!! And It's Oh So Quiet
Please react to “Moments of Pleasure”. It’s a beautiful and very emotional song from Kate that still brings a tear to my eye when I listen to the lyrics.
I love that song too.
Great suggestions ❤😊
Might be my favourite song of hers.
Kate Bush is a genius and a gift to humanity. I grew up with her music such a joy
❤❤❤
I see Kate Bush and I click.
I totally Get Rob's perspective, and at least he respects her artistry, but I am in agreement with Amber - she is amazing.
"Moments of pleasure" or "Hello Earth" next please.
Two of my fav Kate songs, great taste :)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Man With The Child In His Eyes ‼️🔥💯
Yes, a really beautiful song and just amazing when you take into account as to when she wrote it.
@leslieturner8276 12 and 13 year old girls think about make up and clothes and boys. Kate Bush at 12 decided to write about complex themes and compose them into songs with dance schemes that most adults in the music business wouldn't even think of much less have the talent.
Kate Bush our magical fairy..so talented
Especially when you're a child and you watch her.....she really made a big impression to me in those days and I'll never forget that.
Seeing Amber completely getting Kate is a joy to witness, big love to you all x
YES! All day, every day -> YES! "Moments Of Pleasure" is beautiful. "Suspended In Gaffa" is upbeat and weird.
You guys have to listen to Kate’s masterpiece, The Ninth Wave, it’s a suite of songs meant to be heard as a single piece of music…you’ll be stunned by her creativity…
Jay would have a breakdown
"Wow" is a great song of hers
She's a godess no one compares love her
Kate Bush is my self-appointed 'nurse for my musical soul'....her voice is the kindest bandage for an injured soul I swear😊
The world is full of musical acts who succeed by following a genre, a formula, a trademark style. We need artists like Kate Bush, who toss the rule book over their shoulder, and give us music that makes us think and feel.
Kate's song "Get out my house." It's still my favorite. Off the Dreaming album, Kate at her most rockiness.🎉
I can't listen to this one. It's deeply disturbing to hear the singer scream " get out of my house" . I've read several commentaries speculating that it is in reference to S.A. and I can't get that thought out of my head when I listen to this track. It is definitely a work of art imo, but too vivid for me.
"Suspended In Gaffa" and "Pulling Out The Pin" are the stand outs for me off that incredible album.
@@O_Towne_Bear I love "Suspended in Gaffa" and the video.
Same here!!!!
Every track on The Dreaming is a masterpiece. Houdini could make a grown man weep. In fact, it does.
So glad that Jay likes this one! This is one of my favorite Kate Bush songs! Amber totally nailed the meaning behind the lyrics and the Kate's intention behind the video as well.
Amber is extremely intuitive. A gift to Jay😀
The man with the child in his eyes, makes my eyes water up
Kate Bush has been in my life since as long as I can remember, from Wuthering Heights, through to The Hounds of Love and on. This is one of my favourites.
Pronounced ba•bush•ka. My Polish grandmother introduced me to the word 😊
You really need to do "Man with a child in his eyes" written when she was 15.
You got to just love Kate. She's singing as Molly Bloom from James Joyce's Ulysses. I mean who else could or would do that? And believe it or not you've not even touch on her best work yet. Google "Kate Bush - The Ninth Wave" or "Kate Bush - A Sky of Honey". She is really a next level artist.
💜Kate Bush!!!
Hello
I've watched Amber grow to love Kate and I think Jay finally sees Kate for the true artist she is. I love the point, counterpoint on your reactions because Kate is truly unique. For the most part I side with Amber because Kate is a true artistic force and I've been a huge fan of hers since 1978 when she released "The Kick Inside". I'd never heard anything quite like her and the musical love affair has lasted for decades with me. I'm so glad you finally got around to this song. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
Amber has my taste in music, ABBA and Kate Bush two if my very fav artists/groups.
What great taste she has!😆😆
I was just listening to this, in the car, yesterday. Love the high vibrato, "mmm," followed by the whispered,"YES!" Then, blending synths with traditional acoustic instruments.
You're back to the right album but, you still need to hit Rocket's Tail! Kate with the Bulgaria Trio & David Gilmour.
I LOVE Rocket's Tail. And it is hard rock enough to keep Jay's attention, and witchy enough the the Trio Bulgarka to impress Amber. The last half of that song blows me away.
Rocket's Tail! I like to play it on Bonfire Night as I watch the fireworks from my window. One of my most favourite songs ever.
"Rocket's Tail" -- incredible song! Like, absolutely amazing. I don't know how it isn't more well-known, but I'm glad it exists.
I was in high school when this album came out and this song and Love and Anger were in constant rotation on MTV. I remember just sitting in awww of her artistry on these videos.
Great song. It's great to hear all the Irish instrumentation running through the song (her mother was from Ireland and a trained Irish dancer, Kate grew up immersed in Irish culture). The song is based on a soliloquy from Molly Bloom in the book Ulysses, written by the Irish writer James Joyce. She's understanding her power and sensuality. There were no fullstops in the song, just thoughts running into each other. Hence the strident music.
This whole album is great. But this might be my favourite track from the album👏👏👏
Ah … the genius that is Kate Bush.
The whole Sensual World album is excellent, one of my favourites
Words from Ulysses by James Joyce. Hence the Irish influence in the sound of the music.
One of my absolute favorites - the song is beautiful and the video is equally so. Her voice is just ethereal. Kate is mesmerizing.
It was wonderful to hear your comments on Kate Bush..
As a long time KB fan I love that you guys keep coming back to her and you get it. You should consider Army Dreamers next. It’s been trending on TikTok.
Kate is iconic
Kate is an amazing artist. Such a beautiful song. Amber hits the nail on the head - she is a poet, she is theatrical and it is art. She takes you on a musical journey with every song & video she creates. No one sings or sounds like Kate Bush.
Vanessa Williams - "Dreamin' " (possible addition to your female Fridays selection).
She's also a Hollywood actress, and a former Miss America pageant winner (1984). The first black Miss America in the history of the contest.
❤❤❤
Kate's incredible vocal range is easily matched by her vocal pitch and control. Her songwriting conveys an artistic direction with genius as she combines her vocals, instrumentation, and visual dance / mime.
This is my favorite Kate Bush video and song. and when she dance/walks backwards, it gives me chills. Kate Bush is an art Highlander!!!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. It is a pure poetry. There is a lot going on in this song, more than it shows. As some other said it is based on "Ulysses" by James Joyce and Molly Bloom's soliloquy Kate's work is an open door to literature, poetry, paintings, spirituality, religion, psychology, people's stories and much more. Though it may be baffling at first it opens a vast horizon that goes beyond just pop music.
Yes, please more Kate Bush.
A brilliant follow up to this would be "Moments of pleasure"
❤
This song, if you unpack it, is probably her most spicy single, if you get the code. I love that she can be risque without being vulgar. - kate fan since '79.
Hypnotic. Amazing artist!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Jay and Amber reacted to The Ninth Wave suite from Hounds of Love? I think THAT is one of Kate's crowning achievements artistically.
She's an amazing artist, and a gifted singer.
It was awesome to see Jay with a smile on his face while watching/listening to Kate Bush! There are two Kate Bush songs that I believe Jay would also like: "Why Should I Love You?," which is a collaboration with Prince and "You're The One," which features Jeff Beck on guitar.
Edit: "The Big Sky" might be another good one for Jay.
I've been listening to to Kate for over 40 years and grew up with it. Her music never gets old for me and I discover new things with every listen. This music video is great for so many reasons and good god she's beautiful in it too.
A comment that I encountered recently was "David Bowie reinvents himself with each album, Kate Bush reinvents herself with every track"
Simply incomparable....check out Army Dreamers, Man with the Child in his eyes, This Womans Work, Wow, Mna Na hEireann (translates to Women of Ireland)
Kate Bush, This womans Work, is Amazzinngg❤ too.
they did it
@@O_Towne_Bear thank you, I'll go check it out :)
Thanx for that, I definitely will do that !
I love this song. Kate Bush is a genius.
"To where the water and the earth caress and the down of a peach says, mmm yes".
Babushka is the song title you're looking for and it's a Russian word for old lady or grandmother.
Kate spelled it “Babooshka”. And she said she didn’t even realize it was the Russian word for “grandmother” when she wrote the song. 😊 It’s also a handkerchief worn on the head.
i love the medieval type atmosphere of this video.
I saw a mini-documentary on Kate Bush last weekend. Apparently there is an engraved rock in the Yorkshire landscape with a poem Kate wrote in honor of the author of the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë. She has given her inspiration and thus contributed to Kate's success. I can't find the song "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" by Kate Bush on your channel, so I'll suggest that.
Kate’s a genius,for some reason,the USA,never caught on.The man with the child in he’s eyes,she wrote it at 13,& recorded it when 16,it’s beautiful,& Moments of pleasure,you’ll love them.
A hint for those like J who don't fully appreciate Kate Bush. Look up the lyrics. She sings in such different styles that it's often hard to hear all the words (Sensual World for example). Her lyrics are almost always interesting and creative. Hell, she even wrote a song from the point of view of an unborn child! (Breathing)
I’m here for Jay’s reaction!
Love Kate Bush! One of the most unique artists of all time.
"Watching You Without Me", "All the Love", "Heads We're Dancing", "Hello Earth", or "Experiment IV"
You need to react to 1)The Man with the Child in his Eyes, written at 13 and recorded at 16.
2) Wow
3) Moments of Pleasure.
My friend introduced me to Kate decades ago. Her uniqueness and artistic development has something for everyone. Some people may not appreciate everything in her entire collection but there's always something that catches your ear and you are instantly transported to one of her worlds. The variety was very appealing to me. Oftentimes you can get trapped in the musical status quo even in the seventies and eighties which had a lot of variety. She really gave her audience the best of her talent. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Oh I really LOVE this one!
I adore Kate too Amber ❤️
She's brilliant 👏
Hounds of Love is my favorite song by her. :)
LOVE AND ANGER her Hit from the 90's is a BANGER! It's a SIN you have not Reacted to it yet!
This is one of the horniest songs ever (read the lyrics - it's filthy, LOL) and it's largely based on the writings of James Joyce (much like Wuthering Heights was based on an Emile Bronte novel). Kate is an artist like no other. Along with maybe Siouxsie Sioux and Joni Mitchell, she is one of the biggest creative influences on women auteurs (composers, producers, and performers) in music to this day.
She is all about art. Wonderful❤ and one of its kind
"Wuthering heights" is one of the first songs I can remember as a young child as it was so startling. "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" is a must to check out and is one of her biggest and most accessible early hits with its beautiful piano and strings. For the doubters it's like judging Sir Elton John without hearing "Your Song". And she was only 13 when she wrote it and 16 when it was recorded.
Oh yeah!....had this album on cassette in college, and wore the thing out, to say the least! Lol Such enchanting artistry she gives.
For Amber, early 70s soft rock. Carly simon, "loving you's the right thing to do". Smooth ride
Check out "The Man with the Child in His eyes " amazingly written by her when she was just 13 years old !! and believe recorded at 16 ?
Please do Army Dreamers is one of favorites from Kate and you must do JIG OF LIFE!! ITS INCREDIBLE 🙂
I think "Lily" is one of her best...and all of The Hounds of Love album, of course. Kate's one of a kind. A gem.
I remember Kate Bush with "Running up the hill" and it's funny seeing the song again in Stranger Things season 4. I love Kate Bush!
I really don't understand how i missed out on Kate Bush back in the 80's.
Well she had a no. 1 hit in the UK in 1978, but never again until 2022 (Running Up That Hill finally made it). So she wasn't huge in the 80s like Duran Duran or Madonna
@@davidhuggan6315 Yeah I guess you're right. I lived the sticks in Connecticut with only 5 clear radio stations plus I only got to see MTV on the weekends at my Mom's house.
@@jxchamb that's cool. I love meeting Americans. I'm from England but I live in Australia
I think Jay would like one of her simpler songs too. She wrote 'The Man With The Child in His Eyes' when she was about 12 years old. She insisted it should be her second single after 'Wuthering Heights' against the wishes of her record company. And it went Top Ten proving that this young girl knew more than those guys in suits.
She is one of the biggest artists in a renaissance woman way - she writes, sings, performs, acts, desing her costumes and shows, dances etc etc. There is nearly no one in the music business who is so diverse and artistic, maybe apart from David Bowie. You hardly can go wrong with any of her songs (only the Red Shoes album was a flop but some people like it). Do Army Dreamers, Get out of my House, Jig of Life, Breathing, Man with Child in his Eyes... I could go on and on.
That Vibrato she puts on top of that hum at the end!!! Genius!
It is way more than cool, it is magical, ethereal.
What a beautiful melody.
Amber, find Kate’s Under the Ivy and just listen to it for yourself. It’s really magical.
Gorgeous song
Have to check out The Man with the Child in his Eyes next! ✌️
Please, please, please react to Kate's 'Hello Earth's. Absolutely wonderful ❤
The next Kate Bush songs you have to react to are Love and Anger and The Big Sky.
Love this. Will always watch your Kate Bush reactions big time. You two still have to listen to SNOWED IN AT WHEELER ST. which I've mentioned umpteen times where Kate does a duet with one of Jay's favorite performers Elton John. It is a mesmerizing work.
it's a beautiful powerful song, outstanding vocals by both artists.
Kate Bush is a true iconoclast and pioneer. Easily in my top 3 fav artists of all time.
Please react to The Big Sky. I feel like you'll both appreciate that song. Especially Kate's wild impressive vocal performance.
Hi and thanks for this. Really glad you both enjoyed this superb song from my own personal favourite Kate Bush album (also entitle 'The Sensual World'). Based on the Molly Bloom soliloquy from the James Joyce book 'Ulysses,' Kate presents the idea of moving away from the 2D world of the page and into the 3D world of reality, the world of the senses. Despite the passions that Molly expresses in her comments in the book she never really, truly experienced anything - for she exists only on the page, but not in the real world of touch, taste etc. So, life in its passions, emotions, feeling, sensation, all simulates the senses and all of this reaches into our very being. This is a world of the senses. To Kate Bush, mind and intellect are of vital importance (after all she does write some of the cleverest, intelligent, observant, probing songs), but without our sensual side, our deepest feeling, they are incomplete. This really is a wonderful song.
Since you have reacted to this title track song from TSW, and also reacted to 'This Woman's Work' the original final song from it, I guess I would recommend another song from this album as one for you to react to. I think you would get a lot from her song 'Rocket's Tail' (featuring David Gilmour from Pink Floyd on guitar). It is a truly astonishing song. The album was released in 1989 and 30 years later, writing a retrospective review of it, one music critic described 'Rocket's Tail' as still sounding like a miracle. It really does, like a miracle occurring in your ears. There is no official video for it, but it is an extraordinary song, a song to be filed under the heading 'songs only Kate Bush would do.'
Thanks again. I enjoyed this enormously.
Love this, what a beautiful young generation appreciating art from all eras , great stuff guys ❤
I love how she says yes, yes, yes throughout the song but at the end says ...but not yet....❤
One of my favourite Kate Bush videos, she's absolutely stunning in this and what an amazing voice with the lush video. Hope you check out the lyrics.
