She is a musical genius. All Kate. Kate wrote it, produced it, plays the piano, sings the lead and the backing vocal.
And involved in the choreography of the videos!
@@neilmorrison7356 And she's been the director of most of her own videos from her fifth album 'Hounds of Love". Kate Bush directed a 45mns promotional mini-film for her "Red Shoes" album called "The Line, the cross & the curve". Really weird but also quite interesting in many ways. She's also involved in the design of her records covers. She always tries to do as much as she can handle whenever she releases an album. Kate Bush is one of the most creative artists in the pop world. There's no-one like her really.
@@cuckoofan and of course her live concerts in 2014 were reportedly magical and superb. I had tickets but could not go as had had a major operation. One of the biggest regrets of my life.
@@neilmorrison7356 I can understand and I feel sorry for you. The good thing is everything's fine for your health now, but these shows were really great allthough I enjoyed her "Tour of Life" even more. It was just a magical and very poetic experience and her singing was simply outstanding. "Before the Dawn" was probably more impressive technically but "Tour of Life" in Paris in 1979 remains the most beautiful concert I ever attended. And I've seen great ones by other great artists, but in terms of Magic, none compares to this one... Maybe next time Neil...
@@cuckoofan Freddie and Bowie might have something to say about that but that's the company she keeps.
Check out "Cloudbusting" and "Running Up That Hill"... they are both straight-up BANGERS. And her duet with Peter Gabriel "Don't Give Up" will have you in tears.
Her duet with Peter Gabriel for sure. Powerful song!
Couldn't agree more.
Running Up That Hill was my introduction to Kate, and still my favorite song. Wonderful, and a great video.
Don't Give Up is an amazing duet
The duet with PG is the worst track on "So"; it's an awful dirge.
A little bit longer than 20 years ago, I lost my wife to cancer. My children lost their mother. It took two years, and in the end she was a shadow of her normal self, to the point that at the end she couldn't recognize us. Two decades later, and it still tears out my soul when I am reminded of her. I weep every time I hear this song. Including this time. This is why it took me six, nearly seven months to listen to this reaction.
@ GrumpyOldGuyPlayGames I'm truly sorry for your loss
I feel the same about my former wife😰
May you and your family find peace.
I know what you went through and total love to you
As a Child who lost his Father at 14 to cancer I can only say I recognise the pain, frustration, depression, anger and hurt that happened during that time to my immature mind.
But I also learnt from my parents that showed me the strength, resiliance, love, humour and the precious lesson to enjoy the moment then at that time and to hold onto it for the bad times.
My humour is very dark,I always look for the worst thing that could happen when things do go bad, but my Mother and Father taught me and equipped me with the tools to survive just as you both did for your children.
Love and deep respect to you and yours, it gets easier but never go's away.
"This Woman's Work" is one of those rare songs that makes me WEEP just as hard the 1000th time I hear it as I did the 1st time I heard it. It is a steamroller of complicated emotions. An utter triumph of the combination of lyrics, music, vocals, and instrumental arrangement.
Kate Bush is a genius on a level with David Bowie and Prince.
She also directed the video as well.
Please please please listen to her duet "Don't Give Up" with Peter Gabriel next - it is the PERFECT follow up to "This Woman's Work."
Same. Absolutely cannot listen to this without crying. Genius.
Interesting comparison to Bowie , he has a 3 and a half octave vocal range and hers is 3 and a third... pretty close.
I thought it was just me. I'm in floods every time I hear this.
I had my daughter one year ago... this song hits so damn hard. It's honestly indescribable how it makes me feel.
Same
PETER GABRIEL & KATE BUSH
🌟"DON'T GIVE UP"🌟
Incredible song & powerful video!
Omg, one of my all-time favorites!!! ❤
@@mamatay7 The lyrics & video are so powerful. Reminds me of the way I feel when I watch REM "Everybody Hurts". Both remind you you're not alone.
This is a must of a request
If you don’t tear up during this song…. You’re just not human.
I can agree with that🥲
I don't tear up, just feel really bittersweet and turned on. I find this song to be more beautiful and passionate, than sad... But I guess everyone is different? 🤷♂
@@LambLiesDownOnBroadway Maybe it`s because you think like Rael ? Well, that`s weird...where did I get that idea from ? Hmm...
First time i heard this was in that kevin bacon movie shes having a baby thats when i started gtearing up
@@morgan4212: Right? Me too! Loved that movie!
I can't hear this song without wanting to cry - I find the emotion in the voice almost overpowering, just beautiful
This song was in a movie called " she's having a baby" and it's one of the most touching scenes ever. Please watch this movie. If the scene and this song doesn't tear up your eyes, you have no heart
My wife and I were expecting our first baby when we went to the drive-in and saw "Shes Having A Baby"......we both sat there and cried so much! 2 young people..so afraid.. By Gods grace we were blessed with a beautiful daughter...but that scene brings up so many emotions.
Still cannot watch this scene without tearing up.
@@DanielOrion74 its a powerful song in a heart rending part of the film, always makes me cry
That scene will destroy you. It is amazing 💔❤
I bawl like a baby everytime because of that movie...
"Wuthering Heights" was recorded in 1978. "This Woman's Work" was recorded in 1988. Wuthering Heights was off her debut album called "The Kick Inside". She matured as an artist and her voice matured also. She also wanted her vocal in Wuthering Heights to be unreal as she was a ghost haunting Heathcliff.
1978. Wow. I remember the first time I heard it and was WTF is this in the middle of punk. But I loved it then and now. She may have matured but The Kick Inside is still one of my favourite albums.
Wuthering Heights is always such a bad song for people to react to as a first reaction because people usually need to slide into her music nowadays.
I love your’ reaction ☺️. Kate wrote this song to view the male perspective on child birth, how scary it must be for a man too. On that note Maxwell knew this and flipped the role to himself. It is brilliant really. He is amazing, she is amazing.
She's also an author and a trained dancer, there's NO END to the Kate Bush awesomeness!
Kate wrote this song in 1988 for the film "She's Having a Baby". It makes me cry every time I hear it. Beautiful.....❤
It also featured in a Mavis called. A man called Otto with to hanks in the lead role it’s such a powerful song and movie
OMG! Yes! I was crying 😭 in the movie theatre when this song is played in that movie.
@@martindavis4632 ....and J Lo's "The Mother".
I can't listen to this song without scenes from She's Having a Baby come to my mind. This song so ties into that moment in the movie.
@@k126d Kate wrote it after being sent a clip of the specific scene from the director.
Never in history have I heard a voice like Kate's. She has some of the most beautiful songs ever. I hope you will listen to "Running Up That Hill" or "Rubberband Girl"... or even her heart-rending duet with Peter Gabriel, "Don't Give Up". And for another gorgeous, ethereal voice, please do Sarah McLachlan sometime. Her song "Sweet Surrender" is one of my all time faves. And hey!!! I recognize the actor in this video! That's Tim McInnerny from Rowan Atkinson's "Blackadder" series!
I thought that's who it was! I was about to look it up haha
@@elainehill6504 Rowan Atkinson, Tim McInnerny, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Robinson... comic geniuses all.
Funny you bring up Sarah McLachlan, one of her early influences was Kate Bush! In fact you really hear the influence in her first album "Touch".
@@sprybug That album was magnificent. "Vox" and "Steaming" made me a Sarah fan for life.
@@Shrykespeare Aye. I really didn't get into her until I picked up her Surfacing album the year that it dropped. Then as I heard more of her stuff, I had realized I had heard it before, just never knew that she was the artist that did those songs and was an instant fan!
Kate Bush is a British icon full stop! For me the greatest female singer ever her originality alone is on another level simply stunning, she has so many fantastic tracks 'Man with the child in his eyes' Running up that hill' 'Wow' Hounds of love' try to listen to them if you can you won't be disappointed! Kate had huge success globally but not in the US you really did miss out on such a unique artist America shame!!
You missed out ' moving. '
@@georgeprime2249 I missed many of her beautiful songs tbh
Bowie and Bush and the Beatles. Britain really had it covered with genius artists.
Why the greatest "female" singer? Would you refer to e.g. Bowie, Marvin Gaye or whoever else as the best "male" singer? Think about it ...
@@pretzelberger2125 ok Karen
She's just incredible. Anyone who listens to this without having goosebumps isn't human.
Kate Bush has one of , if not the most hauntingly beautiful voices and songs in history of Modern Music
Yes, Maxwell did a cover. And Kate has incredible range in her voice (4 octaves) - in Wuthering Heights she was singing in her upper register because her character in the song was a ghost (many of Kate's songs are character-driven stories and she becomes the character when she is singing). Kate's song "This Woman's Work" came about when movie director John Hughes called Kate and asked her if she would write a song for his movie "She's Having A Baby" with Kevin Bacon. He wanted a special song to go with the scene in the movie where Kevin Bacon's wife was in the delivery room and there was a medical emergency and the lives of his wife and baby were in danger. During the scene Bacon is helpless to do anything but he starts remembering things from the past about their relationship. Kate accepted and wrote the song, recorded it, and produced it in a very short amount of time. Director Hughes had sent her a clip of the scene and Kate played it in the studio while she was composing the song. After the movie came out, Kate did this music video when she released the song as a single. Kate directed the video herself and changed the story slightly in that the man's wife has some kind of medical emergency and is in the ER (there is no indication of pregnancy) and the husband is panicking and thinking about all the things he should have said and done for her
Thanks for sharing
I've always loved this song. Loved it in the movie ”She's Having a Baby" too.
Yes!
Yes that's a moving scene with Kevin bacon and Elizabeth McGovern.i usually mention the movie when I see reactors do this.
This part of the movie always makes me shed at least a few tears being a woman myself that's had difficult pregnancies/deliveries.
Me too, I get goosebumps and remember how this movie took a serious turn.
I fell in love with it from that movie, too.
This song was in the John Hughes movie "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon. The song makes the whole scene, makes the whole movie worth it.
Coz this aint no John Hughes movie, where the girl gets the guy
Literally where I first heard the song and it's amazing how close this music video and that scene evoke the same emotion almost scene for scene
@@RebootDaArcanist I’m pretty sure it was written specifically for the movie and that scene
@@ZenzeroCAM it was but the music video was so close to it as well. And I appreciate that continuity
There is a video of the song featuring extracts from the movie, but Kate wasn't happy with that, and she hired a film crew and actor Tim McInnerny and shot her own version, which may (with the shutting of the piano) be hinting at something darker than John Hughes happy ending.
“Running up that Hill” is one of my favorite songs… Kate isn’t just a singer or performer, he’s an artist on multiple levels.
My daughter was a huge fan of the band, Placebo. They did a great cover of "Running up that Hill". She didn't know it was a cover and that her old Mom was a fan of the original artist.
@@shelbysnyder8109 That's cool lol
This song is heart wrenching in the movie "She's Having a Baby"... so good!
It always makes me cry
Even as a teenager that sequence floored me.
You beat me to it! I cried the first time seeing that part of the movie and still, after years later.
😭😭😭
It was written for the movie.
YOU HAVE TO WATCH PETER GABRIEL AND KATE BUSH SINGING “DON’T GIVE UP” video!!!
Listening to her sing is like imagining a ballerina's dance could be transformed to music, or a fluttering snowflake on a still night. Her delivery, the sound , is totally unique. Joni Mitchell has a very high register too but she doesn't stay there like Kate can. It is difficult to appreciate on first listen because it's so different.
She opened my eyes to contemporary dance and art
Her back catalogue is pure genius ..
You need to try her doing "The Man With The Child In His Eyes".
I am probably mistaken but that is the song she sang for David Gilmour (sp). I had read he discovered her.
That’s my fave Kate song!
That’s the money!!! I second that! 👏🏻👏🏻
that is one amazing song!!! An early one.....I listened to it multiple times, and was swept up.....
@@afinch5078 That is the first song of hers that Gilmour heard, and he, indeed, discovered and encouraged EMI records to sign her. She was 16-years-old at the time. I am forever indebted to him for this. That, and The Dark Side of The Moon, of course.
"Running up that hill" is a must hear from her. Also Maxwell was mentioned earlier. Listen to "Ascension" by Maxwell.
Maxwell did cover this during the early years of his career. He was quite vociferous on his love of Kate’s music.
Kate is a very eclectic artist, emphasis on artist. You will definitely love ‘Running Up That Hill’, when you get around to reacting to it.
I love Maxwell's cover. Both are tear-jerkers in their own right.
She did it all
SHE PLAYED PIANO
VOCALS, BACKGROUND VOCALS

Kate Bush is so talented it's off the scale, she wrote wuthering heights in her teens, amazing woman❤️hammer horror, the man with a child in his eyes are great songs
Yes Maxwell did cover this song. Kate has the most angelic and ethereal voice ever...NOBODY can compare that I can think of! PS try Baboushka...it's a fun one! thx for sharing Rob Squad :)
I respect Kate as a songwriter, dancer, and choreographer but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. She is an acquired taste like Cher or Stevie Nicks.
DL Powers Kate has always been in my Top 3 Female Artists. Have you ever heard the very underrated and unknown Annie Haslam (The lead singer of Renaissance) Annie has the most crystal clear beautiful, ethereal, angelic voice ever.

@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee I can understand that
Once you listen to Kate bushes version, you can't listen to the hacks Maxwells again
I cry at this song and I don't even know why. It's that hauntingly beautiful.
Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” is a beautiful masterpiece of musicianship and has become a musical touchstone to illustrate the plight of modern womanhood. It’s used very differently but to great effect in “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
This is a fantastically, emotional song. As for "Wuthering Heights" it was genius but misunderstood because she is playing a character rather than just singing. That wasn't a thing that had been done much before. There is a theme that Kate Bush will challenge you in her songs. It's best just to let her do her thing and let it flow over you. You'll either get it or be left non-plussed. Babooshka is a good example. Man with a Child in her Eyes is an easier listen.
Kate Bush is my favorite artist of all time. “This Woman’s Work” is a masterpiece. She was a prolific pop prodigy in her youth. She is a genius! I love all of her albums and they’re all different from each other. She is so incredibly versatile. She can do anything! So many awesome songs that it’s hard to choose. Hmmm… I recommend “Cloudbusting” and “Love and Anger,” which are two of my fave tracks, but this rabbit hole is very deep.
How about "The Big Sky"?
In Wuthering Heights she is singing as a ghost. You need to understand that to appreciate her genius in that song.
She quite simply is the Greatest Female Artist of all time, all art, all genres
Kate Bush is unique. An icon. Her voice is incredible. A few more you should check out
The Man with the child in his eyes
Cloudbusting
Babooshka
Don’t give up with Peter Gabriel
Kate Bush has also sung with Peter Gabriel. Including the French lyric in Games Without Frontiers.
"This Woman's Work" always makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. It's amazing.
Just 30 seconds into this I'm already in tears.
Wonderful collaboration between Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush in the song Don't Give Up. Very simple video but very powerful

Kate Bush is one of the greatest talents who has walked this earth x
It warms my heart that a whole new generation are appreciating her brilliance & artistry 🤩 especially as her song “Running up that hill” is featured in the new series of Stranger thinks. Kate Bush is unique - enjoy her music everyone ❤️
Yes, this is the song Maxwell covered. This one was from the mid 80s, and Maxwell's version was from 1992. He also did it live on the MTV Live album. All of them are spectacular!
She's amazing. She might be a witch.
@BlackHatCinephile "Waking The Witch" Track 3 side 2 on "Hounds Of love".
Kate Bush and Bjork are two of the most incredible voices ever and their artistry is limitless, no one else can make me feel the range of emotions they do, so glad you stuck with Kate, she is magical x
Kate Bush and Björk are both in my top 5 vocalists and artists of all time. Both are so singular and groundbreaking with their work that they truly paved the way for so many talented artists.
@@Missjunebugfreak absolutely 100% agree with you! They transcend the sonic boundaries of this world and I will always love them for where their magic takes me. I hope RSR play some Björk soon, they’re missing out!

"Don't Give Up" with Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel is an amazing song, you'll love it!
Her song "don't give up" with Peter Gabriel is amazing. The video is stunning even though it's extremely simple.
It's so strange to think that if it wasn't for David Gilmour's influence we probably would've missed out on Kate Bush's talent. And if Syd Barrett hadn't suffered a psychological breakdown, we might have missed out on David Gilmour as well.
100% Thank you for mentioning this. I was waiting to see if someone had.

Cant hear this without crying.
I had the privilege of seeing her a few years ago at her before the dawn residency in London, it was the first live "tour" she performed in over 35 years her voice now is richer and warmer but she is still capable of hitting those notes.
She is a remarkable and unique artist, others are influenced by her but they never equal. Every album. She has released is like a novel each a unique experience.
My favorite Kate Bush song is Running Up That Hill followed closely by The Man with the Child in His Eyes
You should do a series of duets - such as Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel singing Don't Give Up; or Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville singing I Don't Know Much; and Rod Stewart and Amy Belle singing I Don't Want to Talk About It
- all incredible songs.
Kate bush, amazing 🇬🇧
RUNNING UP THAT HILL (A DEAL WITH GOD) and MOMENTS OF PLEASURE are amazing pieces of Kate Bush work as well
Add "Cloud busting" to the list please :D
Not only is it a great song with a strong drive behind it, the video is a mini movie.
Kate likes to make songs about her favorite books and stories, like "Wuthering Heights" and the same goes for "Cloud Busting".
In the video, Kate plays the young son of a brilliant scientist who invented a machine that can control the clouds and the scientist gets in trouble over his invention, the father/scientist is being played by the amazing actor Donald Sutherland and together they created a beautiful small movie to go with the song.
Whoa, I didn't know Maxwell's version was a remake. He definitely made this song his own with his beautiful voice, though!
I like hers and love his.
I take the original any day. It has more emotion and power imo. However i can't deny Maxwell is an extremely talented singer.

She plays a ghost on "Wuthering heights"...why her voice sounds like that. But she is known for doing amazing things with her voice. She is not like anyone else and she does everything...writes her songs, plays, dances, produces her albums...so so talented! And has inspired so many female artists! She is more known in Europe and rest of the world. Only had a few hits in the USA back on the 80s including "Running up that Hill". Some of her videos are so crazy and creative...she is very experimental!
Oh, she has a song with Prince.

Running Up That Hill is my favourite Kate Bush song and her with Peter Gabriel 'Don't Give Up" is a close second.
Can I throw in my vote for your next reaction being Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel Don’t Give Up 😀🏴🇬🇧
As everyone else says, she's a genius and has an amazing catalogue of songs. Try Babooshka, Army Dreamers, Running up that Hill or Cloudbusting. If you want something different by her try Experiment IV or Sat in your Lap.
Guys I'm ex-military and that song brings tears to my eyes, especiallythe opening few notes. Also my wife sings it just like Kate Bush 😂
What a songstress absolutely hauntingly beautiful Kate Bush gorgeous singer song writer top 3 female singers for me & always brings a lump to my throat
Kate Bush is one of my all-time favorite artists. She is a great writer, composer, performer and producer. She has influenced many artists that came after her. She tackles unique subjects and often takes a lot of musical risks, so it's easy to get a song that may not be quite accessible for the casual listener (like Wuthering Heights - which I love but would not use as an entry point these days for her work but it is historically significant).
I would recommend 'Don't Give Up' with Peter Gabriel, 'Running Up That Hill' which was her biggest US hit, 'The Sensual World', 'Moments of Pleasure', or 'Experiment IV'. My favorite is side B of 'Hounds of Love' album called the Ninth Wave, but it's one that needs to be listened to straight through as it's one complete story (which I suggest learning the story before going in so it makes more sense). The only song from that that can really stand alone is 'Jig of Life' which I love. I spent hours as a teen with the headphones on getting lost in the musical worlds she created and/or analyzing her incredible lyrics.
London's best wowmen singer. ever
I glad you changed your mind about Kate Bush, she is a genius! The first time I heard "This Woman's Work" was on the movie, "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern (1988) and it moved me then. I recently heard it again it the movie, "A Man Name Otto" (2022) with Tom Hanks. This song reminds me of all the strong women whom I loss and I cry each time I hear it.
Isn't she spectacular? This is one of her most mainstream-sounding compositions, and so it's one of her easiest-to-appreciate songs. Running Up That Hill is an obvious place to start with Kate, with a very accessible 1980s dance-pop sound and pretty straightforward metaphorical lyrics, and Breathing is a gorgeous song, as well, although it gets a bit avant garde toward the end. Cloudbusting is a lively, lovely sounding song with esoteric subject matter that requires some investigation. A lot of her great songs, while nothing like Wuthering Heights, are as 'weird' as Wuthering Heights and are best accessed by approaching her music as fine art rather than as mainstream pop. Songs like Suspended in Gaffa and Sat in Your Lap aren't the 'prettiest' songs, but they sure are interesting in a good way. And believe it or not, the oddness of Wuthering Heights can grow on you and can feel not at all off putting once you get inside the spirit of the song. It may help to realize that that song is sung from the vantage point of a ghost who has tormented her still-alive lover, and so Kate's peculiar singing is meant to suggest the voice of a haunted, tortured spirit who has a kind of sadistic love for the man she's trying to connect with.
I'm a little hesitant to mention her here because so many people compare her with Kate Bush, but Tori Amos does have a voice that's understandably compared often with Kate's. They have a lot of similarities, although I think most of the similarities are superficial and the content of their music actually could hardly be more different. Tori is my favorite musician overall with Kate being a close second. If you haven't listened to Tori Amos, then I wish you would, and if you're interested particularly in vocal dynamics, then I'd suggest starting with Caught a Lite Sneeze, Hey Jupiter, Silent All These Years, Crucify and the song Little Earthquakes. (A live performance of 'Winter' from 1992 is very popular among CZcams reviewers, as well.)
Both artists are an acquired taste to be sure, but their music is just spectacularly rewarding once your ears and mind adapt to them. Both are astonishingly good writers and inventive musicians as well as fascinating vocalists. I think of Kate as a more technically innovative musician and sort of as a musical short-story fiction author, whereas Tori is a nearly incomparable pianist and poet/essayist. Since both play keyboards and sing in distinctively high voices, and even have a vaguely similar appearance, they are very often compared, with a lot of Kate fans believing Tori imitates Kate, but their interests and writing styles are extremely different in most cases and totally rewarding.
Patiently waiting for a Brandi Carlile reaction 😊…”The Story” or “The Joke” for an introduction. Amber, with you liking folk music, you’d really like Brandi, she’s Americana (which has a lot of folk elements to it)
Yes! Love her! For the Joke the Grammys version so unbelievable. Better than the recording. Standing ovation! 🙂
Brandi Carlile - “The Joke”
We almost did her today! The song “the story” and decided to go with something older. You guys have me wishing we would have checked her out today.

@@RobSquadReactions Yes, Brandi C. and Nora Jones would be great new to you artists. "Come Away With Me" is a great place to start with Nora.
Kate Bush is a genuine talent. I was amazed by her from the first moment I heard her and I’ve never looked back. Definitely keep going with Kate. So many to choose from. Cloudbusting. Running Up That Hill. Hounds of Love. Breathing. Army Dreamers. Love & Anger. Moments of Pleasure. Definitely give her the chance she deserves.
In my opinion, the best Kate Bush recording ever....
The thing about Kate Bush is she is the whole package musically. She writes the music lyrics and choreographs the dance. Produces everything herself her way. She wrote wuthering heights as a young teenager based on a classic story about a haunting basically. Hence the mad vocals. If you can watch documentaries about her music where many greats of the music world explain how she has influenced their careers it explains all the recommendations to react to her.
I would recommend The Sensual World (from the same album as This Woman's Work), and Moments of Pleasure from The Red Shoes to really show Kate's mastery.
Moments Of Pleasure is such a beautiful and underrated song. I would add Love And Anger, featuring David Gilmour.
Soul singer Maxwell does an amazing cover of this beautiful haunting song! Yes Amber!
That's what you call performing with feeling....... it's not just a song, it's an artistic performance. Now you've both seen and heard Kate Bush, it might be easier to understand why she sold 75'000 tickets in 15 minutes for her first concert in 37 years about 3 years back..... There are few female performers with such a clear and pure voice.......
Wuthering Heights was a song about the book “Wuthering Heights” A 100% LITERARY CLASSIC. Please read this book. Then, go back and listen to her remastered updated re-recording of Wuthering Heights. You listened to the first recording. The newer version is so much better. Also, the lyrics are sung from the point of view of the character Catherine to Heathcliff from the book Wuthering Heights. Catherine is a ghost spirit singing to Heathcliff her first and only true love. It’s a beautiful story. I hope you read this.
Also, you need to delve deeper into Kate Bush’s catalog. She’s a brilliant singer songwriter.
I'm not sure why people haven't suggested her songs that were actually sort of popular. The ones you've listened to are songs her fans might like.
'Running Up That Hill' and 'Hounds of Love' and 'Rubberband Girl' are songs people who aren't fans may actually have heard of, more mainstream type songs.
"Wuthering Heights" was her most successful song commercially, her biggest hit. She topped the charts during 4 weeks in UK, and it was number one in many countries too. All this at the age of 19 and being totally unknown at the time as it was her first single. But people from USA ignored that incredible song.
@@cuckoofan May be true but what I can say is I literally never heard of it before but I have heard of the two songs I mentioned.
@@connorwatson6766 Probably because you're from the US. In Europe and many other countries, "Wuthering Heights" was the song which made KB instantly famous, 7 years before the ones you mentioned. That's why most people would suggest this one, because at the time, it was a real shock for everyone except in the USA. "Rubberband Girl" was not such a big hit at all.
@@cuckoofan Right, but they're from the US, Kate Bush was simply not popular here.
@@connorwatson6766 That's not really relevant. No matter where you're from. Kate Bush really insisted on her record label (EMI) that "Wuthering Heights" should be THE song to be introduced to the public because it was different from anything else and she thought that song would be the best way to impress people. She was right. Too bad for the US market & public that didn't get it right from the start, but we did and I'm glad. "Wuthering Heights", for me and many people, is the best way possible to get introduced to KB's unique world of poetry, emotion and, yes, sometimes weirdness. This (american I think) video pretty much says it all:

Running up that hill.
Running up that hill.
Running up that hill!!!!!!!!
Kate Bush, one of the UK's most prolific writer/singer/performers. Although she hasn't been around untill fairly recently, she took rather a long time out in order to raise her son, but I assure you, I saw her in the Birmingam and she was simply breathtaking, awesome! I admit, she takes some getting into, but once you get her, that's it; you're a Kate Bush fan forever!
Kate Bush was a Unicorn.. good bless her.
Kate Bush is quite simply an English music icon.
If you’ve never seen the movie She’s Having a Baby (Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth McGovern, Alec Baldwin), it explains the song as a husband in the waiting room as his wife has to have an emergency C-section. He’s afraid that he will lose them both, his past with her and his future child . Kate Bush is comforting him as only she can. ‘I know you’ve got a little life in you yet, I know you’ve got a lot of strength left.’ In the movie they play this song as he awaits fate. I cry every single time I hear it because I remember the scene in the movie, which gives the song another texture.
She's the greatest female singer of all time
God knows how much I love Kate Bush's work and voice, she's my favourite artist but I think you should try to listen to Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins (scottish 80's/90's band), she's just amazing vocally!
Some of the finest artists are not instantly approachable. It took me a while to understand Kate Bush and had the same reaction to Wuthering Heights.. it was a performance on Saturday Night Live (Them Heavy People) that clicked the light. She has the integrity to be who SHE is and do what she wants. I agree with the comment below - I called my first book of poetry Running Up That Hill and had the, um, nerve to print the lyrics to the song on the first page (crediting her of course). The song is about communication. Dont Give Up yes you will connect with!
This track was especially written by (as well as performed by...) Kate Bush for the RomDrama movie "SHAB" ("She's Having A Baby", featuring Kevin Bacon & Elizabeth Mc Govern, released in 1988...).
On this track, her voice is absolutely ethereal - Kate Bush is an extremely talented lady on so many levels.
(Yes, Maxwell did a cover of this song.
Hope you guys get a chance to watch "SHAB" the movie - it's Life... comedy, drama and romance - all rolled into one...).
It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

👍💕
It's one of my favorite flicks, as well.
Powerful performance by Tim McInnerny the actor playing her husband
Voice of an angel
It should be mentioned that on Kate's greatest hits album, she rerecorded Wuthering Heights. I think even she knew the original was a little bit too much. She has an amazing voice.
And yes, Maxwell covered this.
Go for the "Man with the child in his eyes" by Kate Bush
OMG watching you guys hear this for the first time and remembering the first time just brings me to tears. Seriously, you gave to listen to ALL of her songs. You may not love them all like i do, but i think you will definitely find gems you will never want to let go of
You listen to this and then she goes and colabs with prince with "Why should I love you?" She's got alot of range in not just her vocals but with genre as well.
This song was in "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern 1988. Cute movie with a very poignant scene with this song. Loved Kate Bush singing this.
