Annie Lennox is a force of nature.
Annie with Aretha Franklin "Sisters Are Doing For Themselves " massive force of nature
I think you maybe right.❤
Annie and Bowie together were magical.
She's 68 now and can still sing.
Tangent, her daughter has started a singing career.
don't forget Bjork
No More I Love You. Together with Why, it’s the epitome of Annie’s vocal talent. Oh my heart.
Agree 100%.
And its a cover who knew?
Nah. I love Annie but if you want to hear that song done right, you need to prioritise the original by The Lover Speaks. Annie grew to love ‘No More I Love Yous’ when TLS supported the Eurythmics on tour in the late 80s, so she heard it on a daily basis - yet she still gets a few of the lyrics wrong in her version, presumably from mishearing.
100%
OMG yes!
"This is the fear, this is the dread, these are the contents of my head... and these are the years we spent and this is what they represent".....The lyrics are amazing in this song and bring tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.
Hands down the best breakup song ever.
But I think my favorite lyrics are the ones in which she realizes that what she pictured as her future is gone and she has to start a new chapter.
“This is the book I never read. These are the words I never said. This is the path I'll never tread. These are the dreams I'll dream instead.”
I first heard it when it was released almost 30 years ago and I still cry every time!
Ultimately my tears won out. Why? indeed. Are those tears always just beneath the surface in my emotions.
@@brendanallen3759 Love Annie and this song is amaze ing.
The most adult lyrics I've ever heard. There are thousands of songs about falling in love but so very few about the tragedy of a broken and, ultimately, lost relationship.
Try …Would I lie to you. an excellent Annie Lenox song.
Great song by the Eurythmics.
@melhamburg5684 Great suggestion! It's definitely one of my faves! ❤
Anni Lennox and Dave Stewart.
A must for Eurythmics fans.
I agree!
More Annie Lennox! You will never be disappointed! Walking on Broken Glass and Little Bird are standouts you would love. And always, just like with her Eurythmics work, the visual presentation is dramatic and stunning.
Such a compelling artist!
Second Walking on Broken Glass!
Walking on Broken Glass, pretty please! The official music video has Annie's great voice and cameos by John Malkovich and Hugh Laurie. What's not to love?
So true
Yes yes and Yes 😊💯
I came to say this, such a brilliant video❤
Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) - Would I Lie to You - I Need a Man - Thorn in my Side - Walking on Broken Glass - There must be an Angel - Missionary Man
Check out Annie's song "Little Bird". Annie is a DIVA's diva in that video, where she shares the stage with all of the alter egos she's played in videos over the years. It's just an incredible tune, which all of Annie's ferocity on display.
Yes! Annie at her very best.
I think this video should be watched after you've seen her previous ones so you understand the referances. Great song, though.
I think Taylor Swift was inspired to make a similiar video to Little Bird.
Oh so good!👍🏻👍🏻
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "Walking on Broken Glass" !!!!
Little Bird is another good song
@@netrider5 I agree, if you know all her catalog of music you appreciate her as an artist. The revolution of all her style and looks you get the concept of the video. Amazing.
I agree. My personal favorite from the album is Legend in My Loving Room. I saw her perform it on SNL and was blown away.
The video fir that sing is like a short movie! Fantastic!
Annie and David Bowie doing “under pressure”live at the Freddie Mercury tribute is AMAZING!
Magic
For those devoted.. there is a video of David & Annie rehearsing, David is cool & brilliant while Annie kind of does what is needed. Then you have the stage video, where David is cool & brilliant whilst Annie goes all in, letting the song take her over. And the difference is stunning.
Kapow!!!! YOU have blown my mind!!! What what what!?!?!?! How did I Not know that hApPeNeD?????
You guys have actually heard her solo before; she's the one who sings the final song that plays over the credits of "The Return of the King". She even won the Oscar for best song for it.
"Into the west".What a masterpiece.
You guys should still react to that, even though you heard it once, but chances are, you weren't listening to it the same way you would in a reaction on this channel.
Annie is so highly underrated and underappreciated. Love love love her! ✨
Here Comes The Rain Again... surprised no one has mentioned it...
I adore that song and yes I’m surprised that no one has mentioned it as well.
That song is one of my favorite song's of Eurythmics, they reacted on this song, that's maybe reason why no one has mentioned.
I'm pretty sure I suggested it, too! What a fantastic song!
they reacted to that song about 9 months ago
One of my all time favorites of any artist
My favorite is Love is a stranger. She does a great duet with David Bowie Under Pressure.
I love Love is a Stranget!!
I love her duet with David Bowie.
it's savage and it's cruel and it shines like destruction... incredible song. In "Why" where Annie ramps up the intensity near the end reminds of the intense middle section of Love Is A Stranger.
Yes! Annie & Bowie's Under Pressure video with Queen is awesome!
The perfect pop song.
I love the line: I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you're thinking
I love it all. It’s such a powerful song.
This entire album-Diva-is a wonder. When she recorded it she did all the vocals herself. No backup singers‼️At the time it was unheard of. Please give a listen to the rest of the album. It’s one of my all time favorites. Thank you for the reaction. I’m getting out the album now so I can enjoy the rest of it again. 💕🦩💕
Diva full album on search 😊
DIVA is one of my favorites ever.
I played this album so much at the salon I worked at that my employer ripped it out of the CD player, handed it to me, & told me to never bring it back. I quit. True story.
You guys would love "Would I lie to you" a song she did with The Eurythmics. It is rock, blues, and boogie all mixed together. From the same album today's song try "Little Bird."
They wouldn’t “like it”. They would both be out of their chairs, possibly on the floor from watching the video and hearing that song. The horns, Dave’s guitar solo, the story in the video…and of course Annie’s amazing vocals.
I would argue that that is one of the best music videos of all time.
@@zivo24 Yes!!!
I highly suggest "Walking On Broken Glass", "Little Bird", "Love Is A Stranger", "Thorn In My Side", and "Love Song For A Vampire". All brilliant showcases for Annie's brilliant voice.
Great suggestions!
And No more I love yous
@@MichaelYoder1961 Whitney covered Annie’s Step By Step and you can hear Annie’s background vocals.
Yes 🙌
Love song for a vampire is beautiful.
One of the greatest vocalists ever. As talented as Kate Bush in so many ways
The fact that Jay is fascinated by Annie Lennox is awesome to me. She has a new generation of admirers. Annie Lennox is such a phenomenal talent!
The entire Diva and Medusa albums are a diptych of life. Should be required listening for everyone.
I remember absolutely LOVING the ending of this song. Every week on the top 40 countdown, I'd wait for this song & the amazing conclusion. It still gives me chills to this day!!!
I totally agree with you!
Annie is a top notch, first class, wonderful human being. And she’s got those vocals. This song still give me chills now, 30 years later.
Annie was fantastic with The Eurythmics, but in my opinion, her solo work afterward was completely next level. Why, Walking on Broken Glass, Little Bird, Whiter Shade of Pale, No More I Love Yous, and so much more!
Her version of "Take Me to the River" is chilling.
"No More I Love You's" & "Walking On Broken Glass"
As much as I loved the Eurythmics I believe Annie did her best work after her and Dave Stewart parted ways. This is Annie baring her soul and its marvelous. She sings with such passion and conviction and I agree with both of you, the finest part of the song is her avowal at the end, very powerful stuff. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
My favorite song by her is into the West from Lord of the Rings.
@@wendymotogirl That's another beautiful one as well!
Yup powerful stuff. This was in the midst of her break up with her partner Dave Stewart. Legendary
@@marlew6629 Yes, I remember reading that!
100%
Brilliant choice!!!!!! This gives me goosebumps to this day. She could have never done this as part of the Eurythmics. She’s got many more, but I think this is her best solo effort by far. You should check out ‘No More I Love Yous’. You’ll enjoy it also. The video is, shall I say, interesting and may not be to everyone’s liking and requires an open mind. But it’s great.
Now I'm going to have to go watch the video again because it's truly striking!
Yes!
She sang the final song in the Lord of the Rings and I think she won an Oscar for it.
Annie is the GOAT! Whether she is doing pop, rock, R&B, or adult contemporary, she always slays!
I'll always suggest "There Must Be An Angel." It's not actually my fave Annie song, but HER RANGE! It's 5 octaves. FIVE!
Yep! That's one on my Pure Joy playlist! 🥰
And talk about "taking us to church" - my word.
I've only ever known Annie Lennox to have 3 octave range. Could you have her confused with another singer? I'm not trying to downplay her voice at all because I think she has one of the most beautiful singing voices in the world. It's just that the one thing I always remembered is that she has a 3 octave range singing range. 😊
Another good Annie Lennox song is “No More I Love You’s“. Also good, in my opinion, is her duet with Al Green, “Put a Little Love In Your Heart”.
Great suggestions 🤗
She covered Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale." It's haunting, mesmerizing, absolutely beautiful.
Such a pure voice. There are relatively few female singers in the elite tier. She is up there.
She's always fantastic. Walking On Broken Glass and Love Song For A Vampire are two of her best solo songs.
Those were two I was going to suggest for sure.
@@kwarren7732 I so love "Love Song For A Vampire"
Yep love song for a vampire
Hear hear for both of those! ❤
Great song to start with for her solo career. Of course "No More I Love You's" is iconic as many here will state!
This song always cuts right to the bone. Razor sharp lyrics with the softest passion.
Annie is AMAZING….such a fantastic voice. She sang a cover of George Michael’s “Praying for Time” on an award show on time…JAW DROPPING!
I was a big fan of the Eurythmics back in the day and when this song came out, I was floored with how she continued to reinvent herself and that her vocals can be turned to a variety of different styles. An early favorite is "Who's That Girl?" but I love the urban vibes of "This City Never Sleeps" - however, her powerhouse vocals are on full throttle in "Would I Lie to You? (Dave Stewart - her counterpart in the Eurythmics - went on to help score music for several movies. Just huge talent all round! ❣
You and I were vibing to the exact same songs. Perfect recitation of their best early songs.
@@laurabrevitz3944 Thanks! Maybe we were on the same wavelength!
Love "Who's That Girl" so much that we used the instrumental as the music for a short video promo.
Check out the live album 'Eurythmics Live 1983-1989', it's available on the official youtube channel. The live version of 'This City Never Sleeps' is just amazing, but the real highlights are 'Miracle Of Love', 'Here Comes The Rain Again', 'Thorn In My Side', and 'I Love You Like A Ball And Chain'. They were an incredible live band.
I forgot to add: "Love is a Stranger" - so mysterious, edgy and awesome lyrics! ❣
When I worked at the show, she was on and I met this very nice woman outside the studio. She just seemed like she made gut be the nanny. Then I saw the same woman become Annie Lennox. The most amazing thing I’ve ever seen!!
Annie reminds me of Sting. I love them both in their original bands, but their music as solo artists is so unique and displays their vocal talents even more.
they did a tour together...
The "singers" in the background is her own voice, harmonies that she sang and are put together like a group. One of the best female voices in pop. Came from the Eurythmics British band of the 80"s. she was a Scottish lass. You ought to listen to her other songs
FINALLY!!! THANK YOU!!
I loved how much you appreciated this incredible ARTIST and now have a sense of how diverse her musical journey has been.
Treat yourselves and watch the video of her performing this song live at the Arista Records 25th anniversary. Just her playing the piano and singing . She blows the audience away.
Oh my God, YES.
This makes me so happy. The album that this came from, "Diva", is still one of my favorite albums of all time. Very important to me in my formative years.
"Would I Lie to You?" Annie's voice and energy are stellar on this one.
This is one of those songs that you must watch a live version. Her voice is like a fine wine.
I love how she lays herself bare in this song. You get both her vulnerability and her strength.
She is an amazing vocalist! Love her song “Here Comes the Rain Again!” I like her whole look….always looking like her own prototype! Can’t resist listening to any of her songs!
Absolutely beautiful. Annie is amazing with the Eurythmics and solo. Her solo work is really impressive.
Never duplicated, smooth as butter, Powerhouse vocalist and pianist. Check out her performance during an awards show at 63 years old of the song, "I put A spell On you." She left the audience with their mouths hanging open😅💪🔥
Including Taylor Swift! 😄
I was going to mention that performance especially after the "take me to church" comment, since that was the song she did the duet with before she basically put a spell on the audience. Grammys - 2015. She stole the entire show.
Annie Lennox is one of the most amazing female artists. For me, she is a powerhouse, and she has movement in her lyrics. I love her covers of I Put a Spell on You, and A Whiter Shade of Pale. 😊
Annie Lennox has a gorgeous voice.
I love this song by Annie Lennox, it's one of those songs where it never gets old no matter how many times you hear it. Other great songs sung by Annie are 'Into the West' 'Love song for a vampire' and 'No more I love you's'
Love song for a vampire is one of my favourites or hers
I'm not a religious man but if I was I would thank god for giving me Annie Lennox in the best years of my life.
Well I am a religious man so I will thank God for her on on both our behalf’s!
I vote for "Walking On Broken Glass"........(her hit song from same album) as the next reaction
The Eurythmics were awesome but Annie could sing the phonebook and make it sound interesting :)
her Grammy performance with Hozier doing their song 'Take Me to Church' is phenomenal! And her duet with David Bowie of Bowie's song with Queen/Freddie Mercury (Annie did after Freddie's death), 'Under Pressure' is REALLY great! AND- her duet with Arethea Franklin- 'Sisters are Doing it for Themselves' is amazing!
I absolutely love this song. It's about self doubt of being a solo singer after the group broke up. But the guitarist Dave Stewart encouraged Annie to be a solo singer & said you will do great. That's how this song came about
There is a live version of her performing this at the piano at the Arista Records 25th anniversary. It's magical.
There is no one like Annie Lennox! She is beautiful & simple, complex & down to earth, a force of nature & a gentle wind! She is one of my very favorite artists out there! I could listen to that voice forever! You need to react to: No More I Love Yous!
Little Bird, Little Bird, Little Bird! You'll see she is truly diverse with her vocals..
I’m so happy you loved this ballad!
but they 'love' every song they listen to..
Beyond thrilled that you finally dove into some solo Annie Lennox. Diva is one of the greatest albums ever made and you would love every song on it. Please don't let it be 6 months before you check out more of her amazing solo work.
Annie is impossible to not be infatuated with - she has talent that comes along only every generation or so.
Her whole album, "Diva", is an absolute MUST for any music collection.
If you want to be completely blown away, search for her live performance of this song from the Arista Records 25th Anniversary show. Just her solo, singing and playing piano, but it's utterly overwhelming in its intensity and emotion.
And she takes you to church without a choir.
She has such commanding control. The way she stretches the Why out. Stunning.
Her amazing voice, her personality (I've seen interviews), yes she's a beauty! She did a song with Queen Aretha Franklin, sisters are doing it for themselves, that's a good one! Both of them powerhouses!!
THAT would be a GREAT song for Female Friday - "Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves." Magnificent singers, wonderful duet.
One of the best voices I have ever heard she is amazing
Oh my god I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to this song for like TWO YEARS! this made me soooo happy
Please please do No More I Love Yous, Little Bird and Walking on Broken Glass
Thank you for making my Sunday! ❤
"Diva" is an outstanding album. Her finest work.
They need to watch Annie closing the 2012 Olympics in London , singing Little Bird - live as she moves around the stadium. Annie is a classically trained musician , but also has an exceptional voice. Again they need to watch the live memorial concert for Freddie Mercury , where she sang Pressure with David Bowie.
I saw that too! She performed Little Bird beautifully!!
One of my absolute favorite Annie Lennox songs; and my God she looks so beautiful in this video. The next one should be “Here Comes The Rain Again” 🔥🔥🔥
She's one of the great singers of her generation. You should hear more.
She’s often referred to as the greatest white female soul singer ever. She’s amazing. She has so much more that the electronic 80s with her group band.
Her second album Medusa is all covers. They’re mostly from soul, reggae, and blues artist. It’s AMAZING. Check out both her first whole albums. No More I Love Yous is a great one to do from her second album.
Annie Lennox is amazing. From this album Diva please check out Cold. Her vocals on this album is stellar.
I second this...check out "Cold". My personal favorite Annie Lennox song. It's so beautiful.
Annie Lennox is one of my favorite singers with the voice of an angel. Her voice sometimes brings tears to my eyes because of the beauty and power behind it. And the song, Why, really shows what an amazing singer she is. Thank you for checking this song out. I LOVE her.
I've always loved this song. She is wonderful, please check out more Annie.
This entire album is fantastic. Unexpectedly brilliant.
"Cold" is the song that I find most underrated and underappreciated (for no reason!).
You guys need to hear that, please!
-I was actually, NEVER, really, a Eurythmics fan, at all,
...SO, when Annie Lennox released: Diva [This album. Her first solo outing], I was pretty floored when I heard it.
...it does tread in some quite different waters that the Eurythmics, generally, did (overall).
...Annie Lennox composed 98% of this album [This song included.] (-There's a cover (as bonus track I believe🤷) and a co-write on it, as well); whereas: in the Eurythmics, Dave Stewart did a BIT more of the writing (although, obviously: they co-worte and each contributed to the band's output. Definitely.), there [at least at the start.].
Annie lets her voice wash over you on this album. It is luscious and sensuous.
Filled-to-the-brim with emotion.
...nearly every song [on Diva] is excellent, but, as I mentioned above:
You, really, NEED to hear: "Cold"
(although: "Money Can't Buy It"
and "Precious"
are excellent, as well, if you need something in a slightly more "pop-oriented"/" '80s becoming '90s," pop radio vein. 🤷🤷-👍)
Jay looked like he was just swaying in the warm blanket that is Annie Lennox's voice. She has always been my top female singer. Please check out "No More I Love You's" from her as well.
Glad you’re getting to her solo work. If you need a pick me up and another range of her incredible vocals, go to Eurythmics’ “Would I Lie To You?” The horns and her vocals are killer! You will add that to your personal list.
That's right, Amber, HORNS! A complete windows down car stereo blasting summer tune!
The entire Diva album was simply stunning when it was released, and hasn't lost any of it's impact over the years - it must rank among the top soul-pop albums of all time.
Diva an amazing album, filled with classic songs, Annie at her absolute best imho. Class Artist personified.
So lucky to have seen her solo show live. 1st half Annie's solo work; 2nd half all Eurythmics. Everyone was out of their seats dancing! ✌
Annie Lennox is amazing. One of the best albums ever. Please check out Thin Line Between Love and Hate by her.
"Love Song For A Vampire"... 'Walking On Broken Glass'... "No More I Love You's".... her version of 'Whiter Shade of Pale" is amazing too!
You must absolutely find the live version of this song. She is amazing!
Y'all will not be disappointed by Annie. She's brilliant. And one of the most beautiful women you will ever see. ❤
One of the best voices to ever grace our ears.
Try Eurythmics, Don't Ask Me Why
My mom was a huge Annie Lennox fan, and this song was one of her road trip go to’s ❤
Annie is amazing. She totally bares her soul in her music. So intense at times. She did much better on her own......
Annie is ethereal. What a voice. Check out her duet with Aretha Franklin *Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves*
A iconic song and moment. This was a turning moment in my life. "Diva" represents a turning point. Lennox had moved on to a more soulful, mature direction. The whole album is a time capsule.
OMG, I “worship” Annie, she is a GODDESS!
RECOMMEND…
There is a LIVE performance of “WHY” by Annie in 2000, it’s just her and the piano… UNFORGETTABLE!
YESSSSS!..The ‘choir’ on this song is actually Annie. She did all the vocals on this solo album. Such an incredible singer/songwriter. All the comments a so spot on..
That’s something not a lot of even serious Annie fans realize - she’s pretty much always done most of the backing vocals on all her work - solo and in Eurythmics.
Thank you for the reaction... I've always loved Annies voice.... Another solo song by her that is great... "Walking on Broken Glass".
Great suggestion 💕
Annie Lennox is an amazing artist and has so many great songs!! Listen to more! Please!!!
Beautiful song this one. Loved Annie's singing since the Eurythmics.
Check out Walking on Broken Glass next - totally different, yet equally stunning vibes.
Great reaction - Jay's face when her vocals hit the first time says it all - you just have to marvel at this exquisite, unique creature. She is striking, you are so right. And as a singing technique, the ability to do that speak/singing part with the key changes and literally just have enough air to do it at all, let alone to sound that rich, strong and impactful. That is rock solid craftsmanship and skill. All hail Mariah and Celine and rightly so, but Annie Lennox makes an alto's heart swoon.
Annie Lennox is a beautiful woman, a beautiful voice and a beautiful spirit all wrapped up in one.♥️
In the Eurythmics or solo, you can hear the power in her voice. It was always there.
She does have a very unique beautiful face ! She's one of my favorite people in the whole world ! Another song she did and her solo career was called "A thousand beautiful things" ... Can't really find the words to describe that song ❤
I love Annie Lennox. "Why" is such a beautiful, classic song. I love how in this video she's turning into the "DIVA" which is also the title of the incredible album that this song came from.
Fantastic choice, Amber! Annie is my musical idol. She is so freaking talented, I don't believe she can sing a bad song. For a more "rocker girl" sound, listen to "Would I Lie To You".
