We're back with Alex for another session with the Moog Matriarch, this time featuring Ben and some modular synths! The Matriarch is at the top of the Moog line of semi-modular synthesizers; a patchable, 4-note paraphonic analog synthesizer with sequencer, arpeggiator, stereo ladder filters and stereo analog delay. In this video, Alex and Ben take full advantage of the Matriarch's patch points to explore some creative sounds.

Finally gave in and ordered one for my studio! Thanks for convincing me with these videos!
A most awesome video! Thank you for showing a bit of the modular goodness of the Matriarch. This (and more of this) is exactly what I'm planning to do with my Matriarch once I figure out the setup in my bedroom studio.
Hell's bells! I think all of us would be *quite keen* to make use of an "automatic hand"!
Nice. Pure magic towards the climax.
Very nice, but the nerd in me is wondering about the last part with the Metropolis. According to the manual, the Matriarch won't de-couple an oscillator from the keyboard when you plug in V/Oct CV. The external voltage will just be added to what's coming from the keyboard. So is it even possible to use the internal sequencer for some oscillators and an external one for different ones? And how does this interact with voice allocation? In the video it sounded like the Metropolis sequence was simply transposed, which isn't what the guys planned to do.
time for a second mortgage
Your channel looks really nice 💯 great day to you .
I'm really considering this Moog,
@Hainbach would be proud 16:40
5 seconds in and I love it
Robert Rental would be proud
It's kinda funny how you guys have the Stevie Wonder albums scattered. Because those sounds around 17:45 DEFINITELY sound appropriate and like they would certainly fit. Hell, now I gotta get a Matriarch 🤷🏾♂️😆🤣
By the way, your studio sounds so clean..
5:31 tripped out good king wenceslas
11:50 That stereo delay just makes anything sound great, doesn't it?
"I'm trying to think of an analogy... You really have to work with the mixer" 😅 That's how you know it's a real Moog! Baby's gonna be BIG. Oh I'm sorry, Mix, were you sitting here? Sounds perhaps uncouth, OH but it's so gooood.
Apart from the Metropolis sequencer which is awesome. what were the other two modules in the rack there? Great video again.
There's a Tiptop Audio Zdsp (with a Valhalla reverb card, one of my fav'es ), an Intelligel Dixie oscillator, VCA and I/O card. Hope that helps. BTW you can get more melodic stuff if you want too, that's the beauty of modular you go on so many journeys you forget to come back to feed the kids. Once you start, it will also turn into an expensive eurocrack habit... :)
The LFO does not sync to clock. But you can sync the START of cycle, not the cycle itself.
So it would never stay in time?!
Last time I was this early, I hadn’t already mortgaged my dog to buy one of these
I have a feeling if this was a mylar video, Alex would have gone off on one with the ring mod demo (around 13:00). It seems like he shocked himself with that sweet sound. 😅
How would you sync all this to your DAW tempo?
In regards to the ring mod patch, actually putting the dummy cable into the pitch in of Oscillator 4 does NOT stop it from tracking pitch! The correct patch would be patching keyboard CV into the lower attenuator on the left of the matriarch, turn it all the way down to cancel the keyboard CV scaling, and then use the top left attenuator to control the frequency of oscillator 4. Excellent video though, of course!
couldn’t you just stick a cable into cv out and leave it hanging?
@@aawagga6841 No, a cable in cv in or out will not stop the oscillator from tracking pitch cv.

ANDERTONS !! Please explain how you know that I have been looking into modular synths lately !!?? wtf :-)
CZcams is owned by Google who knows what you want before you do....illuminati confirmed.
These melodies are very... mylar
👀
I would love to have this synth, but I can't stand the colours ... Anyhow, thanks for your lovely videos!
A Million Orange Dolphins ...says the guy whose handle is "A Million Orange " 😋
They have a black one now
@@ndf3 I know :) I got one the first day!
Just got the Matriarch Dark. Matches my Rogue perfectly!
I like the coloured one better. Good to have choice now to comply with one's OCD ;-)
Loops and loops of bleeps and bloops.
