I love this interview, after listening to Adabuga, Nana Adomako, capt Awuni etc and major Gyan I’ve learnt a lot and understood why the June 4th coup and why all those generals were killed.
Someway somehow he is right. But I believe the soldiers also did many things outside the law/constitution
I love the interviews Andy great work

If you listen to the account of officers who actually fought during the uprising ie. Capt Baah Achamfour, Cpt Budu Koomson, Maj Rida, Maj Nantogma there are eyewitness accounts of them physically leading men and fighting. This is the only guy who keeps saying he detailed men to do this and do that. Not once was he near any action through the whole thing. Mainly because he run and hid under his girlfriends bed when the fighting was intense!

..u can tell from this mans earlier interviews his only mission to join the army was to challenge the military hierarchy because of his views be it tangible but never to Soldier..u can also tell from his own admissions that his superiors trusted him but yet betrayed dem..I see him to be a double standard person..he should cut the bullshit on his assertion on the executions. He claims the Generals overthrew a constitutional govts so deserved capital punishment. Not all played a part in this..did Akuffo overthrow a legal govt? Andy asked; so assuming if Rawlings was executed for his failed coup against a military ruler similar to what Akuffo metted he Boakye Djan would he say it was fair the latter could not answer properly..let's not kid ourselves these executions was carried as per fear for thier own lives

I have enjoyed the show and I must confess I have learnt a lot from this one. Surprisingly our political lenses will not allow us to listen well. From the interview, Major spoke what he deemed right. The military is like that and until you taste it you will argue blindly.
Andy, please kindly take notice of your posturing. I actually could tell from the facial reaction with some response made.

Major ( Rtd.) Boakye Gyan , I understand that the rational behind the killing of the generals was that they had subverted and overthrown the legitimate constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
My question is why did you pick up only General A. A. Afrifa but spared General J. A. Ankrah, Major General A.K. Ocran, Inspector Generals of Police Mr.J. W.K. Harlley, Mr. Bawa Andani Yakubu, Commissioners of Police Mr. Anthony K. Deku and Mr. E. O. Nunoo ?

@@richmondapore888ok Mr. Are you aware that General Acheampong like Ankrah wasn’t the main brain behind 72? Brigadier Alphonse Carter, Captain Kojo Tshikata and Kofi Awornor were the brains behind it. Agbo and selormey were the executors. Why then was IK Acheampong executed?
Did General Akuffo, Utuka, Amedume, Boakye or Kotei take part in any of the coups? per his assertions these people shouldn’t have been executed.
The inconsistence in his responses are clear and it shows that there were ulterior motives however he just want to defend the AFRC.
Listen to some of the interviews of Rawlings and you’ll here something different altogether. Rawlings has even made it clear that someone like Afrifa wasn’t part of the list but someone’s made sure his name was brought in.
If you listen to Baah Acheamfour who’s also a member of the AFRC, he said some else. Now the question is why are they not saying same thing?
I’m not in anyway supporting a coup d’tat but Truth must be told so that we move. They just wanted to kill them and they succeeded. That’s all. No amount of explanation can change that because the more they explain the more there’ll be gaps to expose them.

I have gotten to know the truth since I started following what went on 4th June 1979. I wrote something about some few people who have been interviewed and they behaving like saints. Andy thanks for the interview. Whatever went on has been good and bad, because there wouldn't be an uprising without bloodshed. Some top officials (colleagues) interviewed really spoke with hatred. We are still suffering since our structures are weak but I still believe Ghana will be Great ONE-DAY.

I'm satisfied with one thing. Boakye Gyan was behind the execution of the generals from 4th June to 26th June,1979 and made some children fatherless. Thank God his brother kyereme Gyan also suffered the same fate and even,he and gokah were tortured before they were shot to death." Do unto others, what you want others to do unto you". When his good friend the late JJ overthrew a constitutionally elected government of the late Lineman, why didn't he ask Corporal Tasiri and his men to send Rawlings to the teshie firing range? From the Major( Rtd) own words ‘crime doesn’t have a time limit’. If the generals were killed because they broke the constitution of Ghana , then Major Boakye should equally face the punishment for interfering with the trial of Flt Liu. Rawlings for the abortive coup. The former president should equally face trial for the coup on an elected president( Hilla Limann) Nobody is above the law. It is not too late after all former President Rawlings and Major Rtd Gyan overlooked on the indemnity clause in 1979. Same can be done in 2020 . Justice should be served. Nana Addo, Ghana is counting on you .

I think these soldiers were not been fair. If boakye djan is saying if you overthrow an elected government, you have committed high treason and your punishment should be death by any other means either by shooting or hanging. Why was Gen. Ankrah not executed on June 26 1979. He was the chairman of the national liberation council which overthrew Nkrumah’s government in 1966. According to my research, he died in 1992.

I do not think a rebellion or mutiny or an insurrection in any branch of the armed forces of a country can be elevated to an act of war. There are international conventions on war but hardly any on rebellion or mutiny or an insurrection. Such a claim in respect of war is self serving and must be left to the objective judgement of others ; especially to posterity.
The unfortunate events in Ghana had seeds of destruction, when humans tend to assume the persona of immortality with international interference in the wings.

what I have learnt from Major Boakye Gyan today is his character "Killed or be killed philosophy" all the rules he learnt in the army has been throw away.
June 4 was a "house cleaning" that is why nobody was spared. Major Gen. Odartey would've still been killed if he acted differently, no action would have changed that.
he is right about one thing.
Major Gen. Odartey misunderstood the situation because he thought it was a coup.

Boakye Gyan played no actual role in June 4th though. He is a liar. And sadly, our elitist media prefers to interview the top people and not the soldiers who actually fought on the ground. Any one would tell you this man was nowhere on June 4th. And he was just a mouthpiece during the 3 months.
Afterwards, he took the money and run like those of June 4th who had no conviction. And when JJ came to power, he attempted to overthrow him, and failed badly.
But he'll never say that one.
Why not actually interview the soldiers who actually fought? The real start of June 4th begun with soldiers being picked up for plans they were discovered with.
The other groups realized that if they didnt act then, it wont happen.
June 4th actually started on 3rd June at 11pm when an officer was shot accidentally, and the one who did, fearing nothing would follow, shot himself. Boakye Gyan who was positioned across the parade ground, ordered to defend against the revolt, fled and was in Achimota until about Midday June 5th.
You should do you homework before you interview these characters. You are messing up Ghana's actual history for whatever political agenda you have.

The only officer at 5BN during the coup was Baah Achamfour. Boakye Gyan did a lot to compromise the defense of the SMC. Boakye Gyan took cover when soldiers announced that all officers must be killed! Most officers, including brave ones like Major Sulemana, had to run from the Burma Camp because they had no control over the soldiers.

Agyemang Bio was his 2IC in-charge of the operations and execution along with others. You must know that June 4th planning started about eights years or so prior with the Free Africa Movement group, and Maj.
