    Great conversation as always.
The only difference really with new iPad Air is the M2 chip and does not get any of the other features of the older iPad Pro as in screen, camera, speakers, microphones, thunderbolt, Face ID, pro res. Would hardly call it basically an iPad Pro unless those features were really only a checkbox requirement that added no value to the pro line up.
Currently I’m very happy with the iPad Air 4th generation and hopefully when i do upgrade Face ID comes to down the line but good to see Apple keep pushing the tech. Now only if they do something with the software as in what Jason has said give the option of Mac OS on iPad 😊

Except in practice almost nobody cares about Thunderbolt or ProRes or really the camera or microphone differences or LiDAR Scanner. In practice, for most people, it's pretty much an iPad Pro. For cheap. Call it a 2018 iPad Pro with an M2 if you want 😉

The hardware is fantastic, but the software is just not pro enough. I am not upgrading from my 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro (512GB)

What’s your point? If the software was as you wanted, would the M1 be enough anyway or do you render ?

My point is that when you try to work as a business using an iPad, even if you can do the work on the iPad, it takes four times longer than on a Mac. Also, when you want to use/access a file, most software points you to photos, not the file system, so I find the iPad of little use a lot of the time. If IOS 18 proves different then I would definitely consider a new iPad.

@@richardschembri3538 I agree that it’s an obvious potential for m4 and the new iPads (and recent M chipset iPads). But I’d only have MacOS on iPad as a docked solution.
