CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kevin (Keanu Reeves) uses some reverse psychology to prepare the jury to acquit Alexander (Craig Nelson) of murder.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Supernatural forces hover over the courtroom in this devilish drama adapted from the novel by Andrew Neiderman. Attorney Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves) doesn't heed the Bible-based warnings of his mother (Judith Ivey), who views New York City as "the dwelling place of demons." Instead, he leaves Gainesville, Florida, with his wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) to put his legalistic skills to the test at a leading Manhattan law firm run by John Milton (Al Pacino). It all goes smoothly -- with Milton urging them to stay, putting Kevin on a $400-per-hour salary, and moving the couple into a luxurious apartment in his own building on Fifth Avenue -- where Mary Ann falls under the influence of neighbor Jackie (Tamara Tunie). After Kevin defends a weird animal sacrificer (Delroy Lindo, uncredited), he moves up to an important case with an apparent murderer, real-estate tycoon Alexander Cullen (Craig T. Nelson). Ignored by Kevin, the troubled Mary Ann has some disturbing experiences, verging on the occult, while Kevin, at work, becomes attracted to redhead Christabella (Connie Neilsen). Dazzled by his entrance into paradise, Kevin doesn't grasp who handed him this Big-Apple success. Could it be...Satan? The film features demonic creatures by Rick Baker. Cameos (Senator Alfonse D'Amato, Don King, others) add to the ambiance of ambition and power in the canyons of Manhattan.

"listen to me like you've never listened to anyone before in your life" LOL
I don't care what anyone says. This was arguably the best performance of Keanu Reeves's career. Something about working alongside Al Pacino just brings out the best in other actors. Just ask Jamie Foxx.
He took a significant pay cut to allow the budget for Pacino. He got offered a lot for speed 2 and turned it down to work with al
Trash accent, but yeah he was ok in it otherwise
What about Jamie Foxx? What movie did Pacino work with Foxx that was so good?
@@michaelsong5555 - Any Given Sunday. While it wasn't necessarily a great film, it was a great performance in terms of Foxx working alongside Pacino. Foxx credits Pacino with launching his film career.
Not really a great performance. Accent is a little off and doesn't sell the lawyer bit. I thought his best performance was my own private Idaho.
The acting in this movie is superb. Although Al Pacino, Charlize Theron, and Craig T. Nelson get to play characters with a greater extremes of emotions, Keanu Reaves really shines in this, making everything believable and pulling the show all together.
That's my Coach lol
After hearing about how Keanu was awful in this movie, the only bad thing about him was the accent. I thought his performance was fine, here especially.
I found him horrible. He was nowhere near what he shall be for this role: articulate, cogent and expressive. I found Pacino terrific in this movie, probably because of the comparison with Keanu Reeves haha.
IKR,public would be scared if he came to your court with a PHONE BOOTH,bill and ted,etc
hollywod must loath smart people before john wick
honestly, I thought this was the best performnce of his career, that scene where he tries to get to Mary Ann, his reaction in that entire scene was incredible, hell the look on his face in the suicide scene where he breaks down over MA. Just wow.
@@TheBraunMachine2011 Abolutely my thoughts exactly.
Yeah and I live in Florida and people don't sound like that unless you're from Georgia or maybe the panhandle lol.
I'm starting to notice that this might be one of the most well-acted Keanu Reeves movies. He really sells the character of a serious lawyer obsessed with winning.
Oh,he's great in this.
No, it’s obviously Point Break
Keanu is a gem. He has a certain method of delivery, probably a unique one at that. Thats why it takes a certain kind of maturity to understand it.
That’s a perfect way of putting it. I have always been confused as to why people hate Keanu’s acting. Seeing this comment I think has helped me articulate it: they hate his delivery. BUT the emotions and genuine feelings of the character comes through. So I enjoy his acting. His energy and passion just feels genuine to me. That’s why I can tolerate the supposed bad accent. It simply doesn’t bother me.
F'ing legendary! "Because as long as you're out boning Melissa, you're not home killing your wife!"
You can argue with a lot of things, but you can't argue with that if it's true!
In fact he was a ped0file boning 12 yo niece and he murdered three persons
We're also forgetting to point out, in addition to what he just did to make them hate or dislike him. He also did not spend all morning like the DA talking. He made a CHOICE to go before lunch and then wrapped it up in about 90 seconds. The jury will think of that as several things, a guy who valued their time and hunger. He also made his point quickly and maybe just as important as to how fast he went, this shows that the defense does not have much to hide. In fact he laid out reasons to dislike the man, but as he says...that does not equal murder. Just a brilliant tactic psychologically.
Boom.
His performance here is outstanding ! The role is meant for him, one of my fav movies !
"Oh, you got it now??"
LOL Cullen is dense.
Keanu's best performance. I don't know why people rag on it so much. I saw this movie LONG after I had seen many other iconic Keanu Reeves films, where he often played a wooden board. When I saw this movie, I was stunned that it was the same actor. Like, Keanu was legit amazing in this. Really showed some range and energy he rarely shows. I don't care what anyone says, I was entertained by his work here. His southern drawl is not even that heavy (people seem to criticize it, but honestly, he doesn't do an over-the-top foghorn-leghorn parody like Daniel Craig does in _Knives Out_ ), it's relatively underplayed and easy on the ears, feels believable and the dialect doesn't constrain him. He shows some great emotional range here and holds up VERY well against the powerhouse that is Al Pacino. I wish Keanu would do more of this work.
That was the movie where I first noticed everytime he needs to show some deep emotion, he looks away from the camera and tries to hide his face.
After I noticed it here, it was impossible to not notice it in every damn movie he acts up until recent years. He stopped doing that some years ago and embraced the "I cant show emotions" method of acting.
In the other hand his line delivery was always bad but I feel it got way worse within the years. I don't remember him delivering his lines so lifelessly in the first three Matrix movies as he did in the most recent one. (ANd don't get me wrong, it was *bad* in the first movies)
Underrated Masterpiece!
Everybody, who doesn't know acting themselves, coming down on Keanu.
A judge once told me it doesn't matter if the pope is involved, the jury is going to find in favor of whomever the members of the jury like.
Yeah i would think that emotion would be the number one deciding factor in jury deliberation.
This opening argument was ingenious
One of the most UNDERRATED films in Cinema HISTORY
Keanu's acting is incredible! He is an amazing talent!
Reeves is in all these strange films. Like what if satan was really Morpheus and god is the architect? And the end of the movie is deja vu?
Kevin is Constantine
When a surfer-dude tries to sound southern, lol.
Woah
It is the other of Keanu ?? Johnny Utah 🤔🤭
When hollywood tries to make Christians look bad. That's what I see.
@@Kayak1088 Lol you think Christians need Hollywood to make them look bad?? They do a bang-up job doing that themselves!
Other tham Muslims, I guess...
There is a reason why Keanu is in this movie. There is a reason why he acts like he acts and talks like he talks.
Great performance and excellent acting.
I like how he seems so honest about his proclamation to prove his case.
Which is why he is the best
Keanu's Acting, 25 Years Later: "...yyyeeeaaahhh..." for 3 Hours
that hairstyle is sick even in 2019
I love his accent :)
I loved his Southern Accent
I think Julian Assange should employ Kevin Lomax for this very reason
And people say this man can’t act?!!!! He had me convinced in there.
I guess having an unpopular Opinion about Keanu Reeves' amazing performance here makes me a Devil's Advocate in the eyes of critics and psychologists... So be it I say!
The narrative of this story surpasses any dings in his acting, for me.
Damn scene so beautiful makes you wanna cry
He looks really handsome like this.
John Wick, is that you?
Carlos Munoz+ No it’s Neo... Of course it’s John Wick dude!😏
No it's Ted
No it's Jack Traven
@@Zeynep-pr2hv It's David Allen Griffin aka The Watcher.
@@Zeynep-pr2hv yes but in one other like it s the man that make tai-chi !
Drop the accent and he'd have been a great character.
Keanu Reeves sounds exactly like Pete Buttigieg. I think Buttigieg learned it from him.
Great argument for a truthful case!
I saw this movie when it first came out. In this movie, they never answered whom killed Alexander Cullen's family. There was an underage stepdaughter, and she was still alive by the end of the movie. Cullen's wife told her friends that she could prove that Alex was having an affair, but the affair partner was never named. It was assumed, for a while, that it was Alex's secretary Melissa, but that was proven inaccurate by the end of the movie. I believe that it was the underage stepdaughter with whom Alex was having an affair. Alex was very distraught that CPS wouldn't allow him to speak or visit with her during the trial, but was all smiles when Alex was allowed to see the stepdaughter after Kevin got him acquitted for the murders. Just a thought.
He killed his family. The alibi was a lie.
Just like the client in the beginning of the movie, Alex Cullen was a pedophile and murderer. He killed his family to cover up the affair with his step daughter.
Cullen did. His alibi was a lie and was provable when the secretary he was supposed to be having an affair with didn't know if he was circumcised or not.
I have the same thought, and I think you are correct. In the funeral scene, Cullen is sitting besides the girl, and he is touching her back. In that moment, Kevin sees Getty's face (the pedo teacher) from the 1st scene, giving the idea that Cullen is the same as the teacher; both are attracted to underage girls, and this scene presents a foreshadowing of the Getty's crime. Also, it reminds us that Kevin is very observant, his best quality as a lawyer. So, his weird look to Cullen hints why he killed the wife, stepson and maid. All of these people lived with them. Also, Kevin knew that Melissa, the secretary, was not sleeping Cullen.
2:10 Ted Logan defends Mr. Incredible.
Now THAT would be a good movie!
Thematically I like this because, as the "son of the devil" he's doing what the devil does: sow the seeds of doubt. Only in this case it's for ... justice(?).
Justice?
Choen was the indeed the killer.
Melissa was lying, and Kevin finds out when he suddenly asks her if he's circumcised.
So he's doing what he's doing, saving a murdered from jail, and knowing he was the murderer. He sold his soul, that's why the Devil then makes his move to grab it.
5 clips from this movie and none with Pacino? How?
nice defence but emotional creative thinking
Masterful opening.
Close your eyes you’ll hear hank hill 😂
That's a lot of grease in his hair.
in this piece the only thing you have caught is his gelatized hair? I think you need an analyst !!
He's a genius
Big love to Keanu, Charlize and Al Pacino, greatest movie ever.
I thought this was Keunsa. Best performance and this scene is awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome.,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hurrying 😂 for. Crime 😂
And that is what the law is about.
And why you need a lawyer who understands that.
Tom Cruise probably would be good too in this movie
Long live to the Princess of Brazil... "Alix"?
Coach!
I cud never tell what accent he’s going for but whatever it is it keeps dropping and he just talks normal keanu again.
Judge Wick
I agree with Anthony Cafiero. He sure will.
Too bad the devil is fake
Mr Incredible vs John Wick in a death battle
@zack Milder but is he invulnerable to pencils?
Keanu ❤️
The. Dive s. Crimes 😂
I don’t recall the movie that well, but in the real world couldn’t the defendant still be brought up on murder charges if he paid someone to do the murders? Like I said, I don’t recall the movie but he could be a horrible person, not at the scene of the murder at the time of the murder (so - not actually committing the murder) but paying someone else to do it which in essence is like doing the murder himself.
That's true. But the point is that if he paid someone to do the murder, then the accuse must prove that he did so. Being an a**hole is not enough to prove that.
Where is Al Pacino, I thought I was in this movie, clearly MovieClips think otherwise xD
The. Mind. Of. Crime s😂
So intelligente and so stronger
This was a very good movie...
Keauna Reeves was fantastic in this moviem
In 1997 this character was clearly based on Trump. I think it's even his apartment they're using in the movie
You're an idiot
I don't know when I first saw this movie like it gave me nightmares
the Eddie Barzoon death scene

Of course, in real life, if you have an affair it actually makes you look more guilty.
unless it gives you alibi (which was the point)
Mr Incredible
I'm not incriminating him, but he did start as the lead in a series called coach I think it was back in the '80s OR '90s and poltergeist obviously

Don't you just hate when stupid people need an explanation for something so obvious?
Mr Cullens I presume
You know who Mr Cullens is?

Dude at 1:05 looks like Steph Curry. Might be his Father.
bonin'
th jury should not like you,,its only the fact in a case,PRIMA FACEA
He already kill me
how did Keanu Reeves win the case at the start of this movie? when the girl said... i didn't want to be the only one.., what did that prove and how did he end up winning the case? can someone please explain it to me, it bugs me anytime i watch it.
It discredits her because of how far she was gonna go to get the teacher. The teacher did do those things to her, Kevin knew that, but his need to win went over his better judgement. However she also got two people, the teacher didn't go after, to lie so that she wasn't the only victim. Basic logic, if you got two people to lie for you, then unless evidence says otherwise, you are pretty much a liar yourself. Keanu's character was the pioneer of slut shaming lawyers.
Well when you're Satan's son...
Better call keanu
To all yanks around, what kind of accent he was trying to reproduce? I mean, what state or area?
It's southern. I'd guess Georgian or Bama.
cheers
That would be Florida sir, but he ended up sounding much more like South Carolina.
+Federico Riva Dude, his accent isn't even real in the movie either, much like his secret to winning cases, he uses the Southern Lawyer angle as a means of manipulation as well.
+Miguel Fernandez good call.....maybe he's from Jacksonville. The Ga. N. Florida sounds similar to what he's trying to speak. Peace.....(From Ga.)
Donny Cullen.
Dracula was great also.
Accents are subjective, I am from south Jersey and I do t sound like a New Yorker or a Philadelphian.
To any lawyers, I've always been curious: Would this be a useful strategy in a real-life case?
Who is Mr Blank you should always respect the intelligence of the jurors. If something is obvious, there is no sense in trying to hide it. Just embrace it. If you can, of course.
Court adjourned
See that? Mhm
NOBODY LIKES TED CRUZ
I sure wish I had a good lawyer for my DWI or 4 my possession case that case was sabotage that's messed up I wish I had help at the beginning like a bad guys got help the ones that got my brother I'm the good guy
Keanu did not look angry 🤦when he was suppose to be angry😣🙄
He wasn't supposed to look or be angry. He's still a professional in court. He made his point
@@DredScott2010 ..i wasnt talking about the part where he was in court 😩 whn him and the man was arguing duh😩
@@lilredd3232 he wasn't angry at the defendant either. He just had to sternly explain his strategy to him, if anything it was a minor frustration.
@zackhanscom You do realize that this whole movie is about the Devil right? Any legal logical reasoning is thrown out the window when the Devil's at play.
No he won't. If he goes, you go. Welcome to Christianity. Vanity.....it's his favorite for a reason.
i'm sorry if i were the opposing side's defense attorney i'd let kevin lomax win. bias.. sure
Is he supposed to be southern?
Florida. The one thing about this movie that annoyed me-Keanu just can't nail accents IMHO.
I read on a site that Keno Reeves is native american.
Elizabeth Williamson Yes. His father is partially native hawaiian : )
Hawaiian. Polynesian
I don't know if he plays Keno or not but I doubt he's a big enough fan to change his name to it.
cafiero, beyjamilla - do the words "acting" or "script" mean anything to you? Let me rephrase; do you know what those words mean? Do you understand the concept of film..? The dialogue and and actions of the characters in movies are meant to portray a story. These are actors playing a role. These events never took place in real life. This. Is. A. Movie.
