This is a great quote to play over Djangology!
It's the melody to 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' and it fits perfectly over the A section of Djangology.
I've always known it as 'I Love You Baby' as that's the way the quote starts......" I love you Baaaaby!"
I've heard many great gypsy jazz guitarists using this including Bireli Lagrene and Romane.
The quote is made up of notes from the G major scale so nothing complicated or fancy here.
Play it with confidence and make sure the timing is sweet.
It’s all about learning and absorbing these small tasty bite size ideas into your playing. Before you know it you’ve got a ton of great stuff at your fingertips!
    Swing Out!
    Robin

I HAVE A QUESTION!!! (for Robin if you happen to read this)
I noticed you hold the plectrum differently to how the standard guitarist might and that your right hand technique when playing is also different as you use more downward strokes. I noticed this with other Gypsy Jazz players too so I'm assuming that it's intentional and you guys aren't just being sloppy or anything.
MY QUESTION IS: is this a necessity for playing in this style? Is it ok for me to use a standard alternate picking technique as I try to learn this guitar style? Are there benefits to this picking technique?
I'm fairly new to this music but I love it. I imagine you've probably spoken about this before and I just haven't seen the video or whatever.
If you could answer this that'd be cooooool, cheers.

+xenophontiacicidationarionism good question and the short answer is that the music comes first and worrying about your picking will get in the way of that. However you are right as there is a specific and formal technique called 'Gypsy Picking' which is how Django and all the orthodox gypsy players playing today use. Not only does it utilise many downstrokes (when changing string always start with a downstroke) but also 'Reststrokes' where the pick rests on the string below after playing the note. Michael Horowitz wrote a book called 'Gypsy Picking' which is a thorough study of the technique. Saying that I play with an unorthodox technique and have never analysed what I'm doing with my right hand. Swing out and let me know how you go. Cheers!

Norman, thank you for legitimizing this video post. The educator here could've done accurate research. It would be illuminating to discuss the two chord progressions of these different tunes and compare how the melody fits over the changes as well. Oh, and while we're at it I suppose quoting the melody accurately would be a help.
