Really enjoyed the video! I illustrated the book, and I've only had one of the recipes. When approached for the book, I was very concerned that they weren't considering hiring a food stylist/photographer. To get around the style choice, I thought we could have had the photographs somehow attached to the page, like an investigator's scrapbook. For the next book, Lovecraft Cocktails, I did full color representations of each beverage- because toned line art wouldn't cut it. We're starting work on a third book, and that, at least at this point, will have full color illustrations of each recipe.
I own the Necronomnomnom und really enjoyed your illustrations, they're wonderful and scary, so thank you very much for this! Also I didn't know about Lovecraft Cocktails, thanks for mentioning it, will look it up for sure! My favourite recipes are the cultists and the Fountains of Madness, and since I'm German my first choice of Ursus-Gao-mai are those spawned by Ha'Ri-bo, they are the tastiest and most fearsome around 😋
@@TickleMeCthulhu Wow great, thanks a lot for that info. Snacks with a Lovecraftian twist, wonderfully illustrated? This is definitely gonna be on my wishlist next year. Keep up the good work!

Your passion for the Cthullu mysthos really shone through in this video. That taste testing segment was phenomenal, it absolutely sent shivers of terror and hunger snaking up my spine. Eating those robed cultists is kind of fascinating from a meta standpoint. Could we be the elder thing they are invoking? Are their mortal forms obscured so much that we can only perceive them as delicious snacks waiting to be devoured instead of the tortured souls whose flesh we masticate?
As a huge Lovecraft fan, this was video was immaculate. The Innsmouth oysters looked particulary delicious, and the book itself is grogeous. I couldn't stop laughing at the tasting, everything was describe so viscerally yet informatively. Oh, and as an Aussie, vegemite is by far superior : )

The narration for the tasting was delightful. The cultists are adorable and would be a great easy snack for an Arkham Horror or Call of Cthulhu game night.
To answer your question about Vegemite vs Marmite. Vegemite is from Australia and is savoury and salty with a bitter tang to it. Marmite is from England and it’s also salty but sweeter. I recommend trying them on heavily buttered toast with some melted cheese. And they are acquired tastes so go for a light spread if you haven’t tried them before. Also amazing video, I have this book and it’s great fun to read through.
By far the most entertaining cooking video I've seen on this platform The way you slather that piece of bread with that much Marmite was positively horrifying, and beansprouts together with that? It's very clear the recipe was a work of genuine, otherworldly evil.
As someone who dabbled in the online community of the real life Cult of Cthulhu, I wholeheartedly endorse the depiction of Cultists as weiners. Delicious and appropriate.
I like the fun description that makes tasting the food sound like it's out of a parody of a horror series or movie. I was laughing pretty hard at the end.
I must agree with your analysis. Having cooked a few dishes from the Necronomnomnom myself, the lack of photographs makes it hard to know how successfully I made a dish. For example, when I made the Unknown Ka'Squash (Roasted Spaghetti Squash), the sketch left me unsure how much Parmesan cheese to put on the tomato. In the first attempt, I went light on the cheese and was left wanting more; the second attempt was more successful with a hearty helping of Parmesan. Other dishes suffer similar issues, but mercifully recipes just need some tweaks to reach good-to-superb quality. Its a cookbook that prizes its themes and artwork over the usefulness as a cookbook, but given how rare Lovecraftian food recipes can be, I think the creative choices were worth it.
I bought the book as soon as it released and the first recipe I made, Curried Favor of the Old Ones, is still my favorite though I have moved on to more classic curries since. Raw oysters are lovely if you really like seafood. It's like swallowing a portion of the ocean, and the aftertaste is even better. If you don't like seafood with all your heart and soul, you might find it a bit off-putting.
