Well he picked all old albums. I'd be far more surprised if he chose anything from the past decade

Hahahahahaha.
have you heard trelldom before? check out the first trelldom album to see Gaahl actually doing some good music.
that interview is amazing though. I was thinking maybe he is playing up to the cameras a bit though. ha ha.
@TheBoi353 There was a time where he did very...um..interesting interviews like either barely talking or more or less talking shit about the guy that was interviewing him. But at the same time I have seen interview where he was so honest you could tell from afar (maybe you get what I mean by that). He IS a very mellow guy (well some would say as mellow as a guy from Gorgoroth can be), but there was a time where he preferred to be the tough and menacing guy at every change he got, but the fact that he isn't made it looked od
But thats just my view of things
Some people just like music more than genres.
I completely agree.
I think a lot of folk expect the guys from BM bands to be all about nothing but first wave BM and a dash of Death Metal with some Thrash, you know elitist BS. But I found that to be far from true. It's the fans that trap themselves in genres for the most part, that's what kinda turned me away from BM a little. A lot of the guys I used to hang out with were too scared to admit that they bought a Papa Roach album when they were 13, incase Satan arose from Hades and told them that they're not worthy.
Pretty ironic too, since prolly 99% of Mayhem fans (and metal fans in general) are trapped in the metal genre and refuse to open their minds :)
St. Effen: My experience is that people who enjoy Mayhem is diverse in their music-taste.
Niall Cameron I'm in to the gg allin...dark throne...marilyn manson... but when I'm feeling good I listen to some Reggie... mainly by Amy Whitehouse
It's funny though because members took pride in the fact they weren't "posers"
Proof that you can be metal and listen to Depeche Mode at the same time.
Depeche Mode is proto DSBM (Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal)
DM have similar dark vibes so it's not too insane though I know what you mean.
Depeche Mode is great. They themselves tried blending different genres: industrial, blues, gospel, rock and synthpop. And added to it all a touch of melancholy. When I was younger, I would go out, get drunk on some metal concert, and then go home and listen to Depeche Mode before sleep. It was cream on top of the whole insane experience, to me that was like LSD... :)
Proof that you can be metal and play the music kind a "L.E.G.O."
proof that you can listen to all and any genre you like and it doesnt define you less or more bc its just music
He never would have admitted he liked these bands when he was in his 20's.

@@vonbl3 dumbass, but I get it, I was like that too till I grew up.
All the young metalheads dont realize their bands have way more ecclectic tastes than they do.
It's almost mandatory to have ecclectic tastes when you're an artist. The so called "metalheads" are just teenagers who want to be accepted by other teenagers, so they will listen to a specific kind of music and nothing else. It's pretty inmature if you ask me.
@@DanielCh9393 not really. As a young metalhead by listening to metal i make my self look like a weirdo my only friends that are metalheads are 2 from my local gaming store if i wonted to look cool i would listen to trap and rap
Danielch I listen to all kinds of music from around the world I like learning about all types of instruments but I will always prefer metal over anything else
Black metal is particularly bad for elitist in fighting amongst the fans. Almost every black metal video will have a comment section full of idiots just arguing over what's really "trve" and calling each other faggots for daring to listen to anything other than what they deem worthy - even within the black metal genre itself never mind anything else. A friend of mine once said" I love black metal but I fucking hate typical black metal fans", and I wholeheartedly agree with him.
They all seem to be insecure, racist, homophobic goons, prone to aggressive outbursts and trying to claim that they know more than anyone else about black metal. Thankfully newer black metal bands do away with all that bullshit and just focus on atmosphere and have a good time, but the genre is still full of absolute wankers in the fan base though.
@@DanielCh9393 I'm 42, completely metal fan and my musical taste is not eccletic at all... Who cares? Ahahah

Though Euronymous always had his head up his ass with opinions.
Necrobutcher always seemed like the most 'normal' and centered out of the Mayhem guys to me.
He left the band after Euronymous' sick stunt with Dead's body (hence, Varg replaced him) cause he (rightly) thought it to be sick and disrespectful towards his friend's memory. And he has always maintained that Varg is a psycho.

because black metallers only are allowed to listen to grim and raw black metal... oh!
I don't know why this is such a surprise, he is a person with tastes just like you and me.
You are surprised because you are probably not that well-informed about the black metal scene of the time. It has always been quite well-known that the black metallers of the time had a very widespread love for music, that encompassed almost everything from classic heavy metal and classic rock to 70s electronic music, techno, 80s post punk, and finally to even classical music.
I met this guy at a party called PRSPCT and there is only Breakcore, Drum n Bass & Hardcore! pretty awesome when i saw him there

Depeche Mode is one of the darkest bands ever. Very depressing but in a good way. They're the masters of fantastic melodies. Even Necrobutcher knows that.
The funny thing is that i've been listening to them when i was 4, so

Fenriz would be perfect his music selection would be amazing to see
Everyone hating on Deafheaven but Necrobutcher buying the least black metal albums in Amoeba. Now what does that say about the (black) metal community? Fact of the matter is if you limit yourself to one genre of music means your as interesting as multiple sclerosis. Just because you compose a certain type of music doesn't mean you only listen to the genre you make. If Necrobutcher can listen to Talking Heads, I'm sure you don't always have to listen to edgy face paint dudes all day either. I like black metal, traditional or otherwise but the community sucks.
It's say nothing you moron
It says black metallers don't listen to only black metal. Just like any other normal person.
That they take inspiration from everywhere and not their own genre.
I guess you can say I'm a Black Metal guy. I have been listening and writing it for years and I can't stand a very large amount of the fans. They people who get into it because its edgy edgeboi stuff and nothing else.
Fenriz has even said he listens to everything, he just doesn't slap it in the middle like every other artist.
I like how some people are surprised by his musical influences/choices. I don't care what genre of music you play, there will always be artists from an era you grew up with who will stick with you forever, regardless if you were a fan at the time or not. There's shit I don't even want to admit I listen to, but I do because I grew up with it and can appreciate it on another level now that I'm older.
I am very impressed by your music choice, Necrobutcher! I gotta be honest, I never expected the Beastie Boys! Hell yeah, dude!!

Very solid recommendation but I can't help but remember the interview in "A Headbanger's Journey" and burst into laughter. But it all makes sense, the classic norwegian black metal bands always were influenced by a lot of non-metal and electronic music.
@varg Venom, Bathory and Mercyful Fate I guess. But then again you could trace it even farther back like Coven in the late 60's/70's and Roky Erickson but that's more occult/psychedelic in general.
I absolutely love this. It's amazing how black metal elitism is such a stupid ass concept.

Fangalatic no, there are people that call themselves "elitists" and are the kind of pieces of shit who try to humiliate other people for listening to what's not "true" like Myrkur or any non-black metal stuff. It's retarded but I've seen that a lot. And most of times they were not more "ilustrated"than the other as the other people spent more time finding other bands and styles and those "elitists" only listened to the same 4 basement bands forever.
Fangalatic How can one be envy and ignorant at the same time?
But muh kvlt! 🤘😂👍
It doesn't even matter who it is. This series is amazing
I will never understand people who rag on others for listening to a diverse range of music... That's the beautiful thing about music!! And we're living in the best time for music discovery because you can access almost anything ever produced at your fingertips. Bandcamp, CZcams, etc. you can unlock treasures everyday! God I fucking love music lol
Watching this for the umpteenth time and realizing he's wearing a Watain shirt! I didn't know I needed this until right now.
