Insanely humble. "When I was really getting into black metal stuff" Translation: when I was literally in Emperor
It's crazy to hear Mortiis talk about spending unreasonable amounts of money on his Venom collection while I have also spent unreasonable amounts of money on my Mortiis collection! And I wouldn't doubt the Venom guys also have bands that they collect records of too. If you follow the chain of influence, it just goes on forever.
Mortiis seems like a humble and friendly dude.
I saw Mortiis at a metal fest once. At the end he apologized for the guitar feedback.
with creepy af eyes! 0_0
Mortiis is great. His critics take him a lot more seriously than he takes himself.
His dungeon Synth albums are total perfection.
You're right!!! I was so happy, when I heard that Mortiis left the waters of a cheap Nine Inch Nails copy, and get back to the genre he created by himself!!!! You LOVE it OR HATE it - I'll always will love it!!!!!
@@pazuzu9495 Did he really go back? I sorta lost touch after whatever album was after The Grudge.
@@pazuzu9495 Glenn Danzig did dungeon synth, almost, 5 years before Mortiis.
@@marioolave6334 I heard about thos side-project of Glenn, but I never listened to any of this tracks..... What was the name ? And if you're right, it is the trademark of Mortiis, the name "Dungeon Synth"!!! And he never did anything of this again! But I like Danzig, and when you tell me the name of the album, I`ll going to buy a record of this...

These metal dudes are always so chill, gonna listen to some Venom to be chill like Mortiis.
You can really tell that Mortiis is still passionate about Metal.
I feel so horrible that I’ve been a lifelong metal fan and just finally gave this guy a listen to yesterday……his music put me in a trance and it’s been a very long time since I’ve felt that way with music alone. New fan here, better late than never I guess
I could honestly listen to Mortiis talk about his favorite records all day
His nose looks shorter. Weird.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That had me laughing for a while
his ears also, he gained some weight in the underworld too
Surgery.
HAH.
Are you serious? Did you believe that this large nose was real? He was masquerader for the videoclip. Nose and ears were additives.
Mortiis has a sTROLL around Amoeba records.
Useless fact: I twice met Mortiis and he is utterly adorable.
Mortiis is cute 😍
Thats awesome! have yet to meet him, but have spoken to him a couple of times on Facebook, also bought a copy of The Smell Of Rain from him, and he included a bunch of other stuff. Absolutely love the dude.
Whole video is worth it just for the story of a teenage Mortiis writing to Possessed to buy their old stage clothes.
Mortiis - The King Of Dungeon Synth genre 🤘
Håvard’s English is excellent. Almost flawless.
I've been a Mortiis fan for about two decades now. Very cool guy and I love each "era" of his music for different reasons.
this dude was awesome in Battlefield Earth
Al jourgensen was in battlefield earth.
Ive been listening to him since probably 96 or 97. He's always struck me as a pretty down to earth guy who just wants to do his own thing. I hope he keeps making music for many more years to come.
"Ånden som gjorde opprør" was the first album from the scandinavian environment of black metal that I ever heard, I used to listen to it so much. Even my parents used to like it. When I sometimes still listen to it, it takes me back immediately to that feeling of deep fascination for the norwegian scene that I felt at that time. It's just like turning 25 years back in time all of a sudden. And it makes me think about how I used to fantasize about travelling to Norway, to see all the gloomy landscapes all those bands always talked about. It was 1994 or 1995. I finally made it in 1999, when I went to Oslo for 6 months as an exchange student. I used to go to a pub called Elm Street, where quite a few black metal musicians used to go very often. There I met Fenriz, Hellhammer, Astennu from Dimmu Borgir, some guy from Aura Noir. They were kind of weirded out when they were approached but this drunk Italian who could speak norwegian. :D While being there, I also found out that Norway is just another country, very charming, but with very ordinary and friendly people, and not the gloomy, demonic "vinterland" that all of them chant about. Well, winter over there can be quite harsh, but I did like it. After all, I'm a black metal fan, ain't I. :D
Very cool, man. I wish to travel to Norway and Sweden someday too. 👍🏽🇳🇴🇸🇪
Mortiis Is a great mastermind in music !! He has the talent of Trent Reznor without the money
I had the honour of chatting to him before a concert to 50 or so fans in Hobart, couple years ago. He's this chill and humble in real life. :)
He went to Tassie? God lost track of him in 1995
What a chill dude. That’s what’s up
Very cool. Thank you!!
So, he's just a regular guy who listens to metal. Who would have thought?
And even without makeup he seems way more metal than Necrobutcher.
Really enjoy listening to people who know about the music they are talking about.
I really love these "What's in my bag" videos. In the 90s I worked at Projekt Records in Chicago and we used to sell several different Mortiis albums and video tapes. It was difficult to keep his stuff in stock! I was basically assembling CDs and shipping out orders back then.
I'm so psyched you guys had Mortiis in for What's In My Bag! What an awesome surprise.
Amoeba actually played one of his best compositions in the intro, major props to them.
What song was this??
So many Mortiis nights. He’s what I put on to sleep to, so again this is awesome and a surprise. Thx 🙏🏽
Can't believed it. What a gentleman, very polite. Great one amoeba!
he is a good musician, love his music
Fantastic man: an amazing musician. Good guy. Great musical taste!
I love this dude and his music
I get props in norway for having had venoms dog as a kid. they moved to Japan in the late 80's, and left their dog with a guy who later married my mother. so I ended up having venoms dog. ha ha.
we're from the same little village in Newcastle, this is how this happened.
That was great! I love hearing peoples stories about the albums. Thanks!
Dungeon synth fans, assemble!
+1 !
Lame obscure sub-genre fans, assemble!
@Olde Nāgarāja why? what do you get out of that.
☇🤚☇
Your
His music is sooo great! I like his vibe too! 💙
Good dude, good music, good stories. Keep it coming Mortiis.
LITERAL LEGEND. Let me translate this for people born after 9/11 -
Think about this: Runescape music wouldn't exist without this man and his art.
Dungeon Synth OG
"Dark Dungeon Music" you mean,at the Time of Mortiis & Lamentation, the term "dungeon synth" wasn't yet coined
He got to be like one of the coolest guys from BM in general, no wonder Varg and him really dislike each other
@TheBoi353 Never heard about that either, but I rememeber Mortiis saying in some interview, that they met few times and Mortiis assumed that Varg didn't like him that much... In the end Varg didn't like many people from those days over all... :D
@@teemujaakkola3157 they did both varg and mortiis said it many times in interviews also on vargs ex yt channel. Also there was a girl named Ilsa that was with them but not really part of BM scene mussically which was gf of Varg, Eronymus, and later of Mortiis and appeared on cover of his other project Vond. Also there was a anonymous letter from some musician who knew Varg very well in early days and met him often but never liked him circling around exposing him that what a jerk and and liar he is. That letter it's by many attributed to Mortiis .
@TheBoi353 Mortiis was apart of the First wave of Norwegian Black Metal, he was the first bassist for the Black Metal band Emperor.
Well, his BM adventure is limited to one demo and one split with Enslaved, and just writing credits in the first Emperor album. Sure, those releases are classics, but considering his discography I sure never think of him as a "BM guy". And Varg hating someone is like... cliché; I don't know why he'd hate Mortiis so, let's find out!
Good, Varg is gross. I bet these two would be metal opposites in a room together.
Always liked Mortiis talking about his vinyl addiction in interviews, so seeing one of my fav musicians speak just about that for an entire video is awesome.
Its kind of funny. Because of his association with Cold Meat Industry he was kind of on the Dark Ambient scenes radar in the early 90s but not really? He didn't sort of fit but I did love his tune "The Devil Must Kill" on the CMI double CD compilation. Makes sense that he made more waves in the metal genre. Good to see he has not sold out even now.
His whole "Erache Records" deal was selling out. Re-releasing old albums with laughable new artwork, "The Stargate" with Sara Jezebel constantly shrieking and ruining the sounds plus several NiN type of Albums on top of that. Bleh
I'm really happy that he ended on Enigma. I remember interviewing him a few years ago and being presently surprised when he suddenly came out as a big fan as I also grew up with those early albums. I'm glad he managed to hunt down a vinyl copy of his favourite album of theirs. :)
Very classic and good taste of music.
I was introduced to Enigma by my father, decades and decades ago, such a Surprise to know he likes it too :) Gravity of Love or Sadeness are masterpieces!
Scandinavian accents are just ❤️🔥😍 great picks from Mortiis!
I've been a Mortiis fan ever since I heard "The Song Of A Long Forgotten Ghost" in '95, pleasantly surprised to find him around here!
Mortiis was kind enough to agree to appear on my show. Episode #066 approaches in July!
I met Mortiis in 2005 here in México and it's so polite and nice guy
Mortiis is always stellar!
godfather of Dungeon Synth ?!
Nani ?!
I one time asked Mortiis for some words of wisdom and and he started singing Panama by Van Halen....years after I relistened to the song and heard many aspects he used on his album The Smell of Rain. Still my favorite album.
Mortiis is the best! this is awesome. def gunna check out enigma, never heard them before. also RIP to the OG Amoeba :(
Enigma is great, especially the first album. It was a huge international hit in 1990.
this is legendary
He's such a nice guy, love him!
I've never seen this guy until this video. I love his vibe. So calm and upbeat. Glad to see Hawkwind on there too and they picked my favorite song, Magnu, to represent the album. Even though it's very different from Wherever I May Roam, it always makes me think of it when I'm listening to it.
'So calm and upbeat'
That's an oxymoron
Such a chill guy
Enigma, damn!!! Hail Mortiis!
The dungeon daddy!
Very cool, thanks 👌
I love classic Mortiis
Mortiis is not wrong about Michael Cretu being a genius. That dude put out absolute bangers for decades and somehow made them listenable to a mass audience at the same time.
Wow didn't expect to see Mortiis
man, I just LOVE MORTIIS!…… pure respect to this guy, his art, music and philosophy… satan loves you all!
You believe in a mythological being lol
Awesome bag.
Great interview love the goblin king been into him since my high school days..his love for Venom is like mine everlasting, you ever in vegas mortiis ill buy you a drink!
So glad he mentioned Primus with Possessed. Larry is such an underrated guitar player.
Great job!
Yes awesome!!!!!
Waiting patiently for Amoeba Hollywood 2.0!!!!
I saw Mortiis at his first US show in Chicago.
Always seemed like a cool dude. Fun fact, I went out today and bought an Enigma album after watching this.
Love the Enigma album...fuckin' awesome!
Love you Mortiis.
All these black metal guys who seem to be all demonic turn out to be super chill and nice people. This guy had a lot of urban legends about him having plastic surgery to be like a demon and stuff like that. Being a 90s kid I remember how absolutely surprised and skeptical I was when I saw in a Dimmu Borgir album that one of the members dedicated the album to his Fiancee. I was like "what?" Do satanist demons fall in love and get married? Are you serious?" hahaha those were the days!
i hear the same of Mortiis when i was a kid.
I’m surprised I didn’t see him pull out anything by White Zombie or Rob Zombie. I mean he praised the production of Robs first album and on his later stuff you can hear a few tracks with some heavy Zombie influence. Although I grew up listening to the same stuff as Mortiis I also listened to a ton of EBM/Industrial and I could say Mortiis Era II and Era III are very distinct and stand on their own.
Awesome!
Thanks, guys!!!
Love Enigma😊Age of Loneliness (Jam & Spoon Remix),Almost Full Moon, Shadows In Silence…
Nice music in my ears😘
I did the same with my collection back in 2005 😭 then i started again... Been collecting since 1998.
Great music taste
As far as I'm concerned....Mortiis is a genius
love him
What an excellent selection... I love ALL of these. 🤘😀🤘
One exception, i like Kiss, but I wouldn't put it in my bag though - I never was a fanboy. :D
Long live Mortiis!
This guy is great, very chill guy. I did the same thing mate, sold off collections over the years and have lot's of regrets.... but bills had to be paid, kids had to eat haha
Mortiis rules !
What, no Tangerine Dream?!
I met Mortiis and his band about 15 years ago in my home town in England and they were really kind, friendly chaps. They offered me a beer and we just hung out. I was a total gonk and they were really sweet.
I love Scandinavians. Some great picks. :)
Read about him recently in Sounds of The Beast! Cool stuff
WOW!!! JUST WOW!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!! The one & only Mortiis!!! What an amazing artist
I nearly fell out of my seat when he said Ler was the guitarist for Possessed. I'm a huge Primus fan, I guess I forgot that part of Ler's discography.
I grew up listening to Possessed. Saw them live at the Balboa Theater in LA in 1986.
Nice guy. Very tolerant and friendly towards us nerds in the mid 90's.
Mate this bloke is so good.
Jeg har Helt glemt Possesed! Takk!
legend af
my dad used to rate enigma as well. I have only heard the first one though with the monks chanting on it with the slowed beat, almost sounds as if it's lagging.
8.23 love the reaction !
As far as i'm concerned, these are some great albums.
Best bag so far.
The Goblin king
