    A suggestion.
    For diabetic people, what counts is not limiting sugar, but total food quantities. Whatever a diabetic person eat, it will end as sugar in the blood. Maybe not after few hours, but later that steak will raise the blood sugar.
    Diabetes tablets will work for a while, but for many kinds of the illness, after a number of years the pancreas will be overwhelmed, and the person will need insulin. A special kind of hell on Earth. Insulin will not work well if the person eats more than necessary and is overweight.
    Also, some of the tablets (pills in US) for diabetes (like the Metformin) have long-term side-effects, namely calcium deficiency and vitamin B12 deficiency; not all doctors do address them correctly.
    It is possible to identify a predisposition for diabetes early (like the gestational diabetes mentioned in the video); in that case, reduce your weight and eat small for ...ever.
    Remember that diets are pure theatre and a self-hypocrisy. To reduce weight, you eat whatever you like in a balanced manner; the key is amount, as you will have to leave the dinner table extremely hungry. The effort of a diet is in learning to manage being hungry after finishing eating.
    People telling they are eating specific food specifically cooked at specific times aren't on a diet; they are, very likely, just fooling themselves. Others do stuck to their written diet, but eat between meals. Same as above. Losing weight is very difficult because of our own nature.
    Best of luck to all people with diabetes. You can make it...

      So basically it's about limit food with lots of sugar, so basically sugar.

      Yep I agree, keep eating the sugar. You have to live a little. And most people do that...live a little. How's that 'not limiting sugar' working out ? It's plain to see that it isn't. My siblings & other family along with some friends listen to that advice and drink it with their cool aid. How come I quit sugar when I was pre diabetic, which in reality is diabetes, and the others did not and they are all slowly dying from diabetes and on a bunch meds and I am not ? Am I just lucky ? That's what they use to say. I am 73 and doing good. A sibling sitting in the next room at 74 can not walk and was a colligate athletic star, was all-state in three sports in HS ( Baseball #1) but hasn't quit eating sugar bc his dietician said sugar is ok. BS ! A slow decline over 15 years or so. Doing the same thing over & over expecting a different result is insanity ! Book; A dieticians dilemma; What to do when I got better doing the opposite of what I was taught?! Her supervisor said "don't rock the boat !" Sugar doesn't matter my behind !! Suggest you observe people and their shopping carts at the grocery store ! 2+2=4 Pretty simple. People make it complex for a reason, as diabetes continues to blossom in huge numbers. I am the only sibling that can physically play with my grandchildren and that is priceless! Baseball included. I am lucky & grateful but some of that luck was due to quitting sugar AND sweeteners. Yes food is converted into glucose and should be limited but types of food makes a difference.

    So the reason why fructose causes more visceral fat gains than glucose does is because it causes more hepatic de novo lipogenesis right? Are there other factors at play which influence whether de novo lipogenesis will happen in the liver or in adipocytes? If so, could they be used to reduce visceral gains from sugar consumption?

    Kempner's Rice Diet at Duke University is interesting, as people ate white sugar, fruit juice, fruit, and, of course, (white) rice. People lost weight and improved or reversed various diseases. However, I don't see that as a healthy option for the long term. Maybe it was good as a crash diet for a limited time.
    *Anyway, what about the role of dietary fat allegedly causing NAFLD, and that, in turn, leading to T2D?* This is a never-ending debate between the Keto/Carnivore group (high-fat, low-carb) and the Vegan group (high-carb, low-fat). Both groups report arresting and even reversing T2D. I don't know who or what to believe.

    The illustration and walk through was great, but there are more studies about the cause of diabetes than you are letting on. For the last hundred years studies have shown that a high fat diet where the person gains wait, and ends up with lots of myocellular fat, causes type II diabetes. Being that you're with the chemical association, I see how you all might not delve too far into those studies. You all don't really want a diet based solution. Still, it is good for some people to have access to the meds because not all cases are equal in severity, and not all people are able to / or want to change their eating habits.

    • @themogget8808
      @themogget8808 Před 2 lety

      One answer to that is the donut problem. Not a lot of studies control for the sugar, per se. So when someone eats the donut and gets diabetes, was it because of the high fat diet? Yes. Was it because of the high sugar diet? Yes. Junk diets tend to have both, and studies of diet interventions tend to exclude both.
      The other answer is that while dietary refined sugar causes diabetes, there are other causes too. Factors. The top suspects are refined sugar, refined oils, and animal products. They might all contribute. So if we insist on only having one, THE cause, we might never agree on it.
      Some of do believe in a diet based solution, have cut out all of these things, and have seen dramatic results.

But Fructose turns my strips to the darkest brown from my urine and when I test the corn syrup even diluted with water. sugar doesnt cause diabetes. diabetes type 1 is autoimmune disease. its doesnt matter if you eat zero sugar, you will still get it and type 2 is realy just being over weight and dieting. on e you lose you weighy and diet good then you can eat some sugar here and thete and your pancreas will make enough insulin for iy

    unsaturated fats are also implicated. unsaturated fats tell a fat cell to stay overly insulin sensitive and send messages to the rest of your body to become insulin insensitive. what are the main ingredients in processed food? unsaturated fat and fructose. stay away from omega6 and fructose AND limit glucose if you're heading down the path to diabetes. And, chances are, you are already more than halfway down that path if you're over 30. Start eating lamb and cow and some vegetables if you wanna turn that around. and you do.

      Google: "Skeletal Muscle Lipid Droplets and the Athlete’s Paradox". That's why don't believe IMCL is a definite marker of insulin resistance.
      Also saturated triglycerides in blood comes from ingested carbs via de novo lipogenesis, ingested saturated fats are metabolised differently, e.g. to ketones.

    We know the cause (carbs) and cure (qutting carbs) for type 2 diabetes. Carbs includes both starches and sugars.
    Fats can play a role too, but mainly polyunsaturated plant oils that are prone to oxidation, not saturated fats which are stable.
    It honestly is that simple. But the billion dollar grain and processed food industries make lots of noise to drown the truth.

      @@samsam060402 Anecdotally, you'd think that. People who adhere to veganism long term have healthy blood sugar control as genetically their not prone to IR. But 80% quit after 1 year for various reasons.
      Keto and carnivore are successful treatments for insulin resistance and that's why many start. So you're looking at different genetics from the get go. If you take the same person and trial them on vegan and keto diets, the latter usually results in more health.

    Good video. Thought-provoking, yet quite accurate, as far as I can tell. But I take some small issue with how things are presented at 4:40, telling that if you eat more sugar than your body converts to energy it is stored as fat. This is true, as far as I can tell, but it skews the relevant question to ask in the question of surplus calories, because we eat foods with a mix of macronutrients(protein, sugars, fats), and fats may be more easily stored and are more energy dense, so one could think that it would be more effective to limit fat intake before blaming the sugars for the surplus calories. But I guess all foods that easily lead to caloric surplus, sugary or fatty or else, are fair game. (a random article states that excessive fructose consumption can't be distinguished from excessive caloric intake when it comes to metabolic syndrome and overweight: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33785129/ )

    • @themogget8808
      @themogget8808 Před 2 lety +1

      I think the biggest confusion of the video is the difference between sugar being a cause of diabetes (It is) and it being the only cause of diabetes (it isn't). Yes sugar causes diabetes, and so does oils and other concentrated fats, as well as animal products. They seem to work by slightly different mechanisms, as fructose and glucose and fat are all processed differently by the body.
      A calorie isn't always a calorie, and things like calorie density and insulin index matter. Your body doesn't just process the total calories, it uses signals to understand what form those are in and process it differently. Some foods, like oil and sugar, are more likely to cause insulin resistance than diets of the same total calories but in other forms. They have done studies of whole food plant diets in which they ate the same calories (with a lot more chewing) as the processed food group, and yet still did better.
