There are thousands of woodturning videos of people all doing the same thing: woodturning, and probably throwing in some resin, because that's what everybody else is doing. This really stands out because of the jigs you built to facilitate and improve your work, and the original idea you came up it. This video could have been like so many others, and it isn't. Really, really well done.
Nice
But is it just me, or did he actually cut the bottom off his vase? It sure looked like it...made my heart sink!
@@carolewarner101 you have to separate your piece from the part that you attach to the lathe. That part is never intended to be part of the finished piece 😊
Yep.
@@carolewarner101 weird comment
I received this vase today. It is beautiful. Exceptional workmanship. You are a master woodworker. Thank you! 🤗
Thank you! I'm glad you like it.
Did you pay €600 for it?
@@wparo its not your business, and if he did… congratulations! Its an amazing work with amazing woods quality and it worth 600€ with all the work he putted into it..,,, if greg paid or not 600€ its not your god damn business :)
Did you pay €600 for it?
Did you paid 600$ for it?
This guy said “I need a jig for this vase" and proceeded to build a wooden particle collider
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
I LOVE how you ran all the wood grains horizontal. It is like organized chaos! Beautiful!
So it appears that there is nothing left of the original wood that the vase was first made of. It all has been replaced by round plugs. That is amazing. I wouldn’t have thought to do that. Great idea and beautiful work! Very nicely done.
It’s the vase of Theseus
@@timeb4ndit Great reference!
@@timeb4ndit 👌🏿
This was exactly what I was thinking. I would have never thought to do that either because intuitively it would feel like too much waste of material and effort. But I realize now that it's probably the only practical technique to achieve this result. Very creative thinking and dedication to the craft.
@@meraj205 My guess is he got started with one idea and it evolved into this incredible piece.
That’s about the coolest looking thing I’ve ever seen made on a lathe on any CZcams channel out there.
This video was great! If you liked it check out Kyle Toth and Frank Howarth !
Agreed!
This young man is absolutely brilliant. His level of creativity is eons beyond the rest, and his future is bright. I love his vids.
Only 600€? Wow, you’d think that’d go for so much more. It’s so unique. Of course in a couple weeks everyone will be attempting it, but I absolutely love the originality. Just awesome!!
Showing this wood turned masterpiece on your bed alongside your cat doesn’t do it justice. It wouldn’t look out of place in the Tate modern museum in London. Such a young talent I wish you all the success you deserve 👍
But it does do justice to the cat............
Chippy Pete The hell, you say! He is showing his artwork next to someone he loves. If it was a photo of the bowl next to his mother, would you say the same thing? What an asinine comment!
I agree that more attention to the photographic representation of the final piece would better showcase & enhance its value and expert level of workmanship. Meow! Sorry kitty.
Pat McVicker Sorry but I simply refuse to let this daft comment go unchallenged! First the fact my comment has 30 likes proves my suggestion of showing off Oliviers bowl turning ‘Masterpiece’ deserved a top venue as opposed to his bed in testament to his bowl turning skills. It’s you who has injected this emotional slant into the mix? A Lovely turned bowl & his beloved cat. And where did his mum pop up from? Why stop there. How about his deceased grandparents? (I hope they’re not btw) I’m consistent too. I’ve said of another multi talented CZcams Bobby ‘duke’ art. That displaying his pieces on his back garden ‘patchy’ grass doesn’t show the work off to its best effect. But hey that’s just the majority who think like that. And for the record I love cats.
From what I gather from the Tate Modern, it would look out of place. It doesn't feature a camera zooming in and out on Mickey Mouse, for one thing. But I get your point: this piece transcends the usual woodturning products.
This is absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen anything like this! My dad & his friend have made bowls & containers with different wood but always with straight square pieces, never circles. I am just amazed at the craftsmanship and your creativity! Just when I thought you were finished, you would go further and add another step. This is truly a magnificent piece! It is just stunning!👍😁
Plus a beautiful 🐈🐾🐱 at the end. 💙💙💙
This young man is so amazing! Mind blowing stuff😳
Your "rollerblade" jig is a piece of art in itself. So are many of the custom tools I've seen in your videos. Please continue to post videos; your work is amazing:)
It's called a "steadyrest". They're available commercially, you don't have to build your own as he did.
Incredible work olivier! Absolutely stunning piece! And that twist at the end, scalloped top removing the original segmented ring remainders really was the attention to detail that makes this one so great!
This vase will be easy to spot in someone's home. Its awesome man.
Spot. Ha.
The vase was very impressive, but I was absolutely blown away by your jigs for drill sliding and vase support. I assume you made them, not bought them? Beautiful work all around!!
@@BloopTube that was pretty cool wasnt it?!
What a fantastic idea, that looks amazing. As some others have said it's not about resin with you, it's all actual art and creativity of using the wood. That piece is amazing, one of my favorites too.
In 1975-6, I worked for a golf club maker and repairman. We would occasionally get in a persimmon head club with a deteriorated face. We used this technique with 1/8" dowels to build it back. I've never seen this process since in any fashion until this. Incredible creativity and craftsmanship.
Beautiful...and I love how the top edge follows the circles. They should be called collage wood instead of scraps
Thats a much classier way to phrase it!
Oh boy I have a garage full of collage wood :)
Beautiful piece!
Ow, simply gorgeous
Your amazing talent at such a young age blows my mind Olivier! I can wait to see what you’re capable of in the future if this is the standard in your youth. You are definitely my favourite artist in this field AND I’d be more than happy to pay 600 euro + for this piece of art. Truly amazing. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Exactly!!😳
Beautiful craftsmanship. That is an heirloom piece that will passed on for many generations to come. I'm so jealous of your skill and that workshop.
At first I rolled my eyes at $600, but then seeing the work, care, creativity of this stunning vase $600 seems like a steal. Great work
600 is a bargain for this.
Me too, I thought that was a very bold statement at first but now I'm getting it.
Seriously. How many hours of work start to finish do you think this is? I love that the inside is all circles, too. Beauty.
I thought that was cheap. Go to any art gallery and see hand made woodworking projects. Yeah, that's cheap, especially if you consider the gallery's percentage.
I agree, but it's not $600, it's 600 Euros which converts to $704.37 at this point in time.
Mesmerized every time I watch one of your videos…
Just and simply beeeeaaaauuuuutttttiiiiifffffuuuuullll.
Ingeniously handcrafted.
Thank you for sharing.
That’s a lot of fancy equipment. I started turning in high school and bought my first lathe when I was 17, It was a cheap table top. I could never make enough money to afford that kind of equipment. But that was 40 years ago. It’s nice seeing young people getting back into woodworking and art. It’s a beautiful vase, very well done!
Wowwww i love this technic, i have never seen it before. Do more stuffs please, i enjoyyour work soooo much, thank u for sharing it with us ❤️❤️❤️
The most impressing thing for me, is how well he centered the pieces just by eyesight
Of all of the hollow form videos I've seen this vase is coolest one I have seen. That vase is really amazing.
Truly Outstanding Olivier 💙 💙 💙 💙
Worth every penny of $600. Simply awesome.
Simply put, BRILLIANT!!!
I like how all the wood grains go in the same direction
It's good practice to do that so you don't destroy the wood by ripping the edges up.
I clicked on this and started watching and i thought this was a cool idea, that I could expand upon myself! Then I saw the finished vase. No need to expand on the idea. Thats a perfect fricken vase damn. nice
Finger joint two boards together as a panel, then cut your blanks from the joint.
Loved every minute. I never knew what you were going to do next. At one point I wanted you to stop drilling holes, but your final piece was sheer perfection. Loved it. I wish I had 600EU for to buy it, Nice work.
This is a masterpiece! I was amazed of how efficient your work in details and the ideas, so many ideas were collected together to make this work perfect. Thank your for the video.
You are an amazing artist of your generation 😍😍
Man that should be a 1200 dollar vase with as much work you put in. It’s really different
Well said
In Indonesia, You got the vase for just 50 US dollars
@@bapakeharun652 - In Indonesia $50 US dollars is one year's retirement money.
Are you high? this isn't even a 200$ vase let alone 600...what is wrong with some of you people? Too much money?
@@kojivamracku9690 Everyday a stupid one will stand up, so you have to go out and find him.
This is one of the most beautiful works of wood I've ever seen!
That has GOT TO BE one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! Gosh I wish I could do that; the possibilities for making BEAUTIFUL THINGS WOULD BE ENDLESS!!!!
Absolutely stunning. The edging was a very clever touch.
Привет, твои работы, не просто удивляют, они шокируют, в хорошем смысле конечно, спасибо за очередное великолепие)!
The beauty is incredible ! And the work is phenomenal . Cut and glue so many segments that all this is then drilled and turned into sawdust .😯
Now this is what I call art
After seeing you skillfully create this unique vase, I had to subscribe.
Your artistry and craftsmanship is a joy to see!
End of the day, for such a craftsmanship the monetary value is irrelevant with the degree of work satisfaction you have derived on its completion. Keep up the wonderful passion alive. Keep walking! Cheers!!!
Your vase is absolutely beautiful. And what exquisite craftsmanship. Bravo...!!!
600$ is nearly 40 hours of work.
Respect!
Lets stop and think:
First, 3 jobs: carpentry, camera setting, and editing. That´s a lot of work. Let alone the skills required and the years of learning.
Second: absolutely stoked by how the new technology and these times, are keeping alive and showing to all the people, the art of some jobs. I am pretty sure that channels like this, will make more people to do these kind of things.
Its really a new idea, I really like the result
Красота! И кошечка тоже прекрасна :)
Le génie et la tradition Française... Bravo !
I clicked the 'like' button because there isn't a 'love' button. Wow.
Absolutely true!
If that happens many gamers will quit youtube for adding reactions bscause they thought emojis are "cringe" which is a very bs excuse. Cause why make them in the first place when people hate it anyway?
The craftwork in the tools and devices you use is enough to satisfy but, then you create something magical like this vase with them too. Astonishing skills. :)
Completely and totally beautiful!
What can one say!
Excellent work.
Excellent video.
Superb idea.
Thank you.
I was commenting as you removed it the first time lol.... Do you plan these crazy segmented builds out, or is it more like “ I wonder what this will look like after I drill and fill 1000 holes?!? Absolutely amazing!
Thanks, more like the second option ;)

This is absolutely beautiful.
I'm so happy that I discovered woodturning videos on youtube.
When I saw the vase in the thumbnail I needed to know how you did it.
Very impressive!
I'll probably binge watch all your other videos now...
I’d like to see how he built his drill jig. I wish I had this mans imagination. Well done Oliver.
I want to know who would click the thumbs down on this. If nothing else you have to love the guy's dedication. And the vase is awesome.
Very clever and creative design!!! I especially like the scalloped top edge. It adds a lot of character!! Exceptional work!!!
I just kept thinking "you're insane" but in the very best way. Congrats on your amazing work brother.
Hi Oliver, another Triumph, your work is so far beyond anything else I have seen on CZcams, this vase is stunningly beautiful, and worth way way more than $600, you have made a one of a kind, a unique work of art. You know I love your work. Stay safe in these health worrying times xxx
I think this is one of the best vases I've ever seen
One of my favorite pieces that I have seen
Absolutely stunning! I was thinking to myself that it would look great as a lamp base as well.
I thought the same thing until I saw how finely the inside was finished up.
Une très jolie création artistique merveilleuse
Wow! Stunning piece of art work. Real woodworking expertise.
You are an extraordinary artist!! Stunningly beautiful!!!
I thought it was beautiful with the original wood, so many different different pieces.
HI Olivier! Fantastic vase and really nice technique! Well done, and thanks for sharing!
Originality is incredibly rare these days. But you are a true original creator. Amazing work. Can’t wait to see more.

This is the prettiest the vase I’ve ever seen! Unbelievable idea and even better execution! 👍😃

And congratulations on the self-built equipment. What a mind!

GENIUS. Incredible skills and creativity, beautiful workmanship--AND a cat person! Your kitty is gorgeous and so is this vase. You can turn anything, even random scraps of wood, into a work of art. So glad I found this channel! I'm officially a fan.
Artist !!! what creativity and flow.
That’s a beautiful cat, too, since no one else said it.
Blown away by the vase. It looks like it’s not even real wood, factory made or 3D printed maybe... the amount of detail is astounding!
WoW !!! How many years have you been woodworking (like on a wood lathe) that is incredible !!! Very inspiring, both artistically and structurally speaking !! I also love the idea of the support jig !!! Great ideas all around + nice video production as well !!! 👍🏻👍🏻
I was admiring the jig as well. Was wondering if he had some kind of guard for his arm/wrist when he was sanding the interior.
