    David, I've been using the other style of the Blum soft close hinges which are attached to the face frame with a single screw are these a much better option? They have more adjustments right? I also tracked down a place that has HDF and Ultralite MDF the HDF is heavier even heavier than the standard MDF but the told me the HDF machines better and finishes better than the Ultralite. I ran a sample piece through the drum sander of the ultralite 1/2" I have 7 sheets of and sanded again with 180 and gave a coat of waterborne surfacer and found when i sanded it with 320 it was smooth as smooth can get, so is he wrong on this? He also said the hinges won't hold as good as they would in the HDF. Ultralite is 59 for 3/4 sheet and HDF is 72 Whats your take on this? You use a lot of the Ultralite I know but do you ever use HDF?

      I never used those soft close attachment pieces but have seen them. I think that they are a good option if you don’t have access to different hinges. Or are using mortised hinges. However for new cabinets that get euro hinges, it just makes so much sense to use the attached soft close hinges. Especially these newer ones with the off and on switches. They are great. As far as the hdf goes, that’s stuff Is too heavy for me. The regular is too heavy also. Lol. But as far as finishing goes, my finished cabinets are like you said, smooth as smooth gets. Great way to put it. My screws hold very well as far as doors and drawers go. I don’t use the material for face frames for sure. So I’m not securing hinges to the edges of the ultra lite. That’s not recommended. My pricing is more than yours at this time. But the material is very hard to find on a consistent basis. Where are you located?

      Thanks for watching. Sometimes hinges can be maxed out and that binds them. It will make them not fully close. So loosen slightly the screw that makes the door go left or right so it’s not All the way maxed out. Then slightly loosen the screw that makes the door go in and out. These are usually the screws that cause the door to not shut. Does this help?

      @@JP-pf1nj I’m having difficulty understanding you. However if the steps I gave you didn’t work then possibly it could be the screw holes are in the wrong position. Maybe the hinges on the doors are mounted out of square. A lot of things could cause problems. Check the hinges to make sure they are square when they are screwed down.

    I can see now what that clip is for, thanks for that. My construction crew guy who installed the cabinets, for a pantry that has 02 doors per section/level, he put a hinge with the click on the top part of the door on the left door and a regular hinge on that door's bottom but the other right door, he put a regular hinge on the top part of the right door and a hinge with a clip on the bottom part of the door. In one pantry, there are 06 doors and this alternating of hinges is like that for each door, I dont' get it. Why do; click-hinge and standard hinge on one door, then go down to the 02nd. level and do; standard hinge and click-hinge on one door, then go down to the 03rd. level and do; click-hinge and standard hinge on one door. Repeat all this again for the 02nd. pantry of 06 doors. So, looking at 02 pantries from left to right and top to bottom he did this pattern; click-hinge and regular hinge (left door) and regular hinge and click-hinge (right door) Go to the next level down, and it's opposite, and so on to the 03rd. level.

      Pretty funny. Before these switches were made, I used to put one non soft close and one regular on small doors. The reason is the doors are too small so they don’t have enough weight to close with two soft close hinges. But with one regular and one soft close the door will close nice and gently. But nowadays, the new hinges have this switch so there isn’t a good reason other than it’s cheaper to put in the non self closing hinges instead of switching off the soft close ones. I’m guessing that they want to save cash. Lol.

  • @shiddy.
    @shiddy. Před rokem

    verified today that the Everbuilt brand sold at home depot has the same switch that does the same cool trick
    still makes me wonder why they don't just make them close at a normal speed from the factory so we don't have to do this trick

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore
      @davidbryanwoodworksandmore  Před rokem +1

      Oh I’m sure that many will appreciate you letting them know about Home Depot hinges for a local option. The switch provides a huge benefit in that some doors don’t require two soft close mechanisms to be operating. So this allows the user to shut off one and still use the other hinge to slow down the door. This little switch is awesome. Without it, I used to use two different hinges, 1 soft close the other normal, to accomplish the same thing. The introduction of the switch on Blum hinges a few years ago was a game changer.

    Is there some way to lessen the strength of the soft close hinges when opening a cabinet door? I have ones that are more or less identical to yours, but we have to kind of pull real hard when opening, which feels very unnatural haha... My goal was super subtle soft closing hinges

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore
      @davidbryanwoodworksandmore  Před 11 měsíci

      The switch is to shut off soft close. It doesn’t change the self closing function. If you are using a hinge like mine, I mean exactly like, you can get the same one in a free swinging type with no self close. They are good for touch latch jobs. If you combine one of those with the other hinge maybe it will help you.

      @@davidbryanwoodworksandmore ahh I was hoping there would be a way to adjust the ones I have, but I think I'll have to get another, less strong ones. Ah well, I'll have an extra pair of hinges if I build something else in the future- they're a little too restrictive for the surface I'll need them on(surface they'd be sitting on isn't as solid as wood, and would probably not maintain shape when opening). But thank you for the advice! I'll be on the lookout for similar ones instead of trying to adjust these, hope you have a nice day!
