Partner Poi Spinning and Dance: Stray Italian Greyhound Flowshow 2016

- A partner poi and dance performance set to "Stray Italian Greyhound" by Vienna Teng featuring Drex and Morgan Howe. The only partner poi piece performed at Flow Show SF 2016, featuring integration of poi spinning, ballet, and modern dance.
To my knowledge, this is still the world's only partner poi performance to incorporate lifts into the poi spinning!
Morgan and I wrote this partner poi duet over the course of several months in 2015. We lived on opposite coasts, so we could only work on it in 3-4 hour increments when I’d come to visit her. First performed at Manipulation in June 2015, this is our attempt to integrate ballet and modern dance into partner poi and to write a story around a tender romance.

Very nice! Like I've said before I could see the flow arts progressing more by taking principles of movement and dance and incorporating them into our flow. I really enjoyed the lifts here and the general structure of the duet. Incredible piece and I hope to see more like it.
I hope to create more like it! Morgan and I both have a dance background (she's been training ballet for more than 20 years) and integrating the two arts is something we're really keen to see more of.

I’m afraid she doesn’t really engage on social media. Shame, too. In addition to being a talented dancer, she’s also a really excellent photographer.
WOW drex!! How long did it take you yo choreograph this??
That's kind of tough to answer because of how it was choreographed. Morgan and I were living on opposite ends of the country and I'd fly to visit her for a week about every six weeks or so. In the course of that week we'd maybe get a maximum of 5 hours to work on this piece between other commitments (she was in her first year of grad school at the time). I'd say we considered the piece ready to show after about six to eight months of doing this. It still had some rough edges that we worked to sand down over the course of a few performances for the next year. So like a year and a half-ish?

As it turns out, two dancers doing cutting edge partner poi and trying to actually tell a story with it was so far ahead of its time we're still waiting for the rest of the community to catch up. 😂
@@DrexFactor couldn’t agree more - this video gave the very credible impression that poi was going to break into new territory in the field of dance and choreographed performance. Sadly that doesn’t seem to have happened, but as long as you are still out there I am holding out hope.
