Haha surprisingly none of them are super models nor in movies (yet!). TWICE definitely is a perfect example of what k-pop is known for in terms of music production, mvs, and choreography. BTS and Blackpink are very much influenced by western/American pop music. For Blackpink it's due to their label, they're known for hiphop, rap, western pop influence.
Surprisingly, a lot of other kpop groups have lots of European producers/composers for their music.
Fun fact: TWICE was formed in 2015 from a reality survival show called Sixteen. There was sixteen trainees under the same label on the show where they showcased their skills in photoshoots, dancing, singing, and performance. These 9 were chosen through public vote and the judge (who also is their label's founder and produces some of their music), JYP.

Another fun fact .. one of the discarded / wasn’t chosen to be in Twice from Sixteen won 1st place in another reality show, Produce 101 ... that’s the pedigree of Twice .. I prefer I.O.I tbo.. the group made from that Produce 101 show but Twice is great too. Jeon Somi is her name is in JYP with Twice. I’m still waiting for her proper debut
Man 16 was tense as fuck! they cried like 10 liters of tears every episodes. One must appreciate how hard they work while being so young!
The group is also very diverse, since half of them are not korean. There are 5 Korean members, 3 Japanese and one taiwanese. Their genre is not just k-pop, but also J-Pop, and you can definitely see the japanese influence. Their videos are a bit more colorful than the average K-Pop music video. =)
f you want to react(or just watch) to more, their most popular MV is "TT", which "Knock Knock" is the continuation of, and my personal favorite is "Likey" xD And the one before DTNA was "What is Love", that has a similar concept with Cheer Up.
The 'super attractive' one is tzuyu (kinda pronunced like 'cheewy'). She is the group's youngest member (maknae) and turned 19 this year. She's Taiwanese and attracted attention from the public for her stunning visuals even before debut.

BTW is it weird that I know a lot of metalheads (including me) that like TWICE? It is just so far from the ambience of metal that I use it as a relief sometimes after hours of head banging and crowdsurfing.
Paul Path I guess it’s because of the contrast between the songs and concepts. Like how in cooking, if your dish is bitter then adding something sweet balances it out. Doesn’t help the fact that Twice is hella pretty as well.

Come out of your comfort zone and you won't regret it, I for one, am not a fan of this genre of music at first but when you really listen to their songs, they really grow in you. Twice has this kind of music that really puts you in a good mood, like positive vibes. Try to watch some of their other songs and you'll like them.

I'm a metalhead too and I'm so happy to see that I'm not alone ! I fell in love with Twice and BlackPink too but guys seriously you MUST try 2NE1. It was with this group that I discovered I can like Kpop. The group doesn't exist anymore but CL (the leader, also named "the Queen of Kpop") start a solo carrier. 2NE1 was a very important group.

I would say its' hard to fathom and wrap your head around because this is the 'bubblegum' side of Kpop, which is a term used to describe this particular sub-genre. And to answer your questions, they are not movie stars or pro-models but some of them have been in a few fashion shows. The reason why TWICE is so popular is because they were formed out of a survival program (Sixteen) which was held by their company JYP Entertainment. Through the survival show, the scenes of the girls working hard to prepare for performances and evaluations were key to thinning down the gap between a celebrity and a fan.
Best twice song that isnt just cute for being cute is "Me Likey." Its acactually a pretty sad song lyrically even though it's quite upbeat.

Good stuff! Please react to more TWICE. Their song TT has even more views nearing 400m, one of the most iconic songs in kpop, the definition of a unique kpop experience. Meanwhile “Likey” in general is the easiest to get into, not too foreign sounding but is still super poppy. Also check out their Japanese releases like “Candy Pop” which sounds super Japanese, even the visuals are anime lol. They also released an all English cover of Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” which they made their own MV for ^^

Fun fact camera head guy makes a short, a couple frames, cameo in Twice - Signal. If nobody has said it, I have heard from a few places (Dance The Night Away) was filmed in Okinawa Japan.

"it's not like we're not happy guys..." lol - like I said before you guys would have a hard time swallowing 90% of kpop girl group songs since they are mostly cutsey bubblegum pop. some are ok, but twice is way too out there for me too. right now twice is probably the most popular girl group so it's a bit surprising. you also have to understand the core audience are teenagers and they are kind of lemmings so once a group catches fire, everyone will like them.
red velvet might suit you more since they are more edgy and sound more like western music. a couple of other groups that you can relate to more: 4minute - crazy / hate (they go hard more so than any other girl group) and exid - ddd / ah yeah (more hip hop/rap). there are also quite a few sexy themed mvs that are quite good but they aren't as popular just because the culture over there prefers cute stuff.

Cheer Up is Korea's 2016 song of the year. that song is creating a huge buzz in Korea, they clean sweep song of the year trophies in all awards shows
I was like the guy wearing the blue polo when i first saw twice, I was also blown by how beautiful Tzuyu is, whatever she does she looks so perfect. She's the pinnacle of the word visuals and her face is not even that mature. Can't wait for her to age more and probably rock the badass girlcrushy concept
If you‘re checking out Red Velvet, I highly recommend „one of these nights“. It’s so different than any other kpop song that it kinda caught me off guard and left me startled when I first heard it.
It is such a good song but Not that popular, that I really hope that you will check it out!
Also, Red Velvet‘s concept is similar to Blackpink‘s. They have songs which have the red concept meaning those are the fun, cute pop songs. And their velvet songs are more RnB and kinda seductive I would say. „One of these nights“ is a velvet song for example :)

Twice are really well known for their relatively simple dances that can be replicated by us normies, it's helped build their popularity as it allows people to dance along with their usually insanely upbeat/happy music.

seeing you guys react to kpop makes me so happy! I am an ARMY so I clicked on the BTS react ofc but I really want to see you guys dip your feet into more kpop haha. It would be really cool if you could react to either one of BTS dance practice videos (those things leave your jaw hanging for a good while) or their older songs like 'I need u'.
If you guys enjoy the less poppish sounds, I'd recommend BTS' older albums like 'Skool Luv Affair' and 'Dark and Wild'. Some of my favourite songs off those albums are 'Tomorrow', 'Cyphers pt 1, 2, 3', 'Rain', 'Hip Hop Lover'. But no pressure, these songs are mostly b sides, it would be cool if you guys gave them a listen in your down time someday. BTS experiments with their sounds a lot, so you find songs of every kind of spectrum - from lofi hiphop to EDM beach party, from hard rock to reggaeton and everything in between. Their ballads are really good too! It's especially surprising how good and talented they are, considering they take part in creating the group's music and writing the lyrics themselves.
Also Twice is definitely toted as the prettiest girlgroup of Korea, although different fans of other groups would disagree (totally justified. All the girlgroups I've seen are stunning). You'll find a bit more variety in their B sides, more musical creativity and different sounds.
Other artists I think you might want to listen to are Epik High, DEAN, Bigbang, Red Velvet (ofc!), Shinee, Seventeen and Winner. Like these groups represent some really diverse sounds of KPOP itself.

Since you guys are metal fans, I really recommend to check FTIsland. It's a korean rock band and I happend to see them live, and it was an amazing experience, they have one of the best korean vocalists as their frontman! Shadows, Pray and Take me now are songs that I would recommend to listen!

Instead of open calls, they use other trainees from the company for extras. It helps build the trainees resumes and gives them a close up look at idols that have already debuted
You guys should check out (G)I-dle. They are a group who debuted this year with their song LATATA. The leader, Soyeon, is as badass as BlackPink Lisa imo.

yeah its crazy i never got into the whole pop scene too much in america but when i delved into the kpop rabbit hole it was a whole new beast id never really experience before. i haven't really found an artist i couldnt get into. Blackpink is my all time favorite, ive got that chaeyoung bias for life, but twice has a very special place in my heart, they never fail to make me smile and that is super endearing to me, cuz there will be days where im in a rough place and other artists may not be able to get me there. theres just so much bubbly positive energy coming from their songs all the time that just has a way of bringing me back up so its really nice. cant wait to check out more of your guys stuff keep up the awesome work.

Nice. You guys actually managed to hit on all the essential qualities of TWICE that makes them super popular in this reaction video, which is actually very rare to see in people who react to TWICE for the first time. Namely:
(1) their ability to bring positive/happy energy (which, although many other Kpop girl groups attempt the same approach with bubblegum pop music, none have accomplished as well as TWICE have). In fact, many Korean musicians and composers of other genres (such as hiphop artists, rappers, and even some rockers) listen to TWICE songs to pep them up in the middle of composing or other difficult creative tasks. Soldiers too. People undergoing military service have reported TWICE songs are used as wake-up calls in the army base (Cheer Up especially).
(2) their extremely strong visual beauty. The official explanation for TWICE's group name is that they will bring you happiness twice - once with your eyes, and once with your ears. TWICE has probably the best lineup for visual beauty in the current generation of Kpop girl groups. They're pretty much the queens of filming commercial endorsements.
(3) their catchiness / virality / brainwashing. TWICE's signature style is catchy pop songs that focus more on the ability to go viral (in terms of singing or dancing or both), rather than musical complexity or artistic expression or lyrical meaning (unlike, say, BTS). They now have a track record of 8 continuous number one hits, because everyone (a) can't get their songs out of their heads, and (b) find the dances cute and easy enough that they want to try them.
Side note: The music video for Dance the Night Away was filmed on the Japanese island of Okinawa.

>N.Flying - The Real and Hot Potato (and Fall With You but there’s no music video rip) (this band is honestly just a good time, also they have a rapper which is really interesting in rock but they make it work)

BTS and Blackpink aim for US market, that’s why their music sounds like sth you’re familiar to in American music. It’s intentional. TWICE is mainly created for South Korea and Japan market, so their music is more K-Pop base/feel. Dance the night away MV was filmed in Japan tho.

TWICE's OOH-AHH is the group's favorite era (their favorite song, and their debut) so I recommend that! But also, they just put out their Japanese album and the video for BDZ would be fun! They prefer a more adult sound but also master the pop feel, so I think you'd like the Like Ooh-Ahh song. (Also, the girl you keep calling beautiful, her name is Tzuyu pronounced like Chewie, she's the youngest and still in school!)
