I just saw one of these on the road yesterday and it was spectacular. The interplay between the light filtering through the black oak trees and smooth curves of the vehicles flanks, was almost musical. I love coupes. The engine from the E63AMG would be better suited for this vehicle : power and beauty ( like a supermodel martial artist)!
I sat in this at the dealership and wow it was impressive. Loved the pillarless two windows. Very sporty and luxurious feeling. 👍👍
Picking up one next week. Can't wait.
I love this car, so glad you're doing a review of it. Not sure if I'd want this or a CPO S-Class Coupe Would love to see an AMG version of this.
I had the exact dilemma 3 months ago. I live in Wisconsin and the choices were: 2017 F150 Raptor, MB E400 4 matic coupe, 2018 Audi S5 and BMW M550i X drive. In the end, I chose the Audi mainly for cost and most bang for the Buck and I’ve had all 4 German luxury brands. This my 3rd audi and I currently have a 2012 991, 2013 A5 that is my oldest sons car and GLC350 2016 that is my wife’s car. As you can tell, I like German cars.
Great review. Just a point of clarification: the wheels on the car you tested are not 18”....they’re part of the 19” AMG sport wheel package.
Those are the 19" AMG wheels, not the 18 (those come standard).
I know because I just bought one !
Love it !
Still enjoying? Looking today thanks
@@maxxxgsd No, I sold it last year and bought a Lexus GS-F V8 performance. The E Benz
was a great car, just fell for the 470 HP in the Lex. Best interior ever on my E coupe, great quality. Just get one still in warranty.
Best review
Hi Motoman. I think this car is Gorgeous! Only problem is I've got 2 young adults and It's unfortunately for me not a practical alternative at this point in my life. I now drive a 2014 Mercedes ML 350 and thinking still need something with 4 doors and some utility like a Porsche Cayenne which you just recently reviewed and I love! Thanks for the great reviews and love the channel!!
I own this e400 for 2 months now and line did come with adjustable dampers. With sticker price 64450 with p1 package and saddle brown interior . Totally agree with u . This should be the engine on the sedan as well . I had the 2017 e300 and was very disappointed with engine
I’m actually buying one. I had an Audi A5, it was good but I see to many Audi cars. I feel that Mercedes have made a big step in design and when I sat in it at the dealer ship I was very impressed. Knowing I had just sat in a bmw a few hours before. It seems that they aren’t in the same century. I’m from France .
Legend has it MotoManTV has a twin turbo SLS Amg Black Series.
You should update you filming equipment, you can see from the image quality it is starting to age a bit too much.
Voice from the UK. I am taking delivery of E coupe fully loaded. I test drove Audi S5 coupe and Jag XF, but none of them was as technologically advanced and comfortable as the Merg :-)
hi Moto man, what is your opinion on the backseats room ? is it enough for 2 young kids (less than 14 years) ?
When's the full review coming
Who's your stylist?
The sunroof shade looks like it is going to be replaced soon.
What is the cost now for this car ?
I like that green paint. It looks like my parents green Jag. Their Jag belonged to late singer Joe Cocker; the only car he ever owned in his life.
what the Ha ha! You found my folks!
This color omg .. what color is that please some one teel me
Audi S5, personally think it looks so much better(vicious) than the Mercedes E400, little bit more power and a little bit more techy. I prefer Audi interior at this expense level. Would go with Mercedes S coupe any day if budget is around 90k+. So yeah Audi S5 is my choice for 60-80k range.
Hey, Motoman -- how about closed captions for us hard-of-hearing who wish to read your commentary?
You should have a little cc button on the lower right hand side of the screen. Mine works.
Doron Levin they are automatic
Dream spec
what color is that? and thoughts on it?
The exterior colour is emerald green.
Infiniti Q60 AWD, 400 hp with 350 ft lbs of torque. Soon to be getting a factory authorized tune for 450 hp and 400 ft lbs torque.
Sorry to hear that Kumo (or is it Kumho, like the tires......sorry, I digress) is on injured reserve with a torn meniscus. Unfortunately it's a common injury to world class athletes like your sidekick.
Good stuff! Looking forward to part 2. This car has caught my eye while getting my 2016 C300 4M sedan washed and have been waiting for an in depth independent review. You are correct that there is a lot at this price point. Even within the mark itself... for example; C43 Sedan, vs C43 Coupe vs e400 sedan vs e400 coupe vs even an GLC 43...on and on. Throw in the other germans and i'm a even more of a confused mess. Although its in a higher price range, i'm still sick over the new Panamera 4S. Told you... issues! In short, give me something german, sport/lux with AWD and its the perfect daily here in the Tri-State. (Cincinnati, OH / Northern Kentucky)
I haven't been able to subscribe to Mercedes coups for a while. I like their 4 door coups but the regular coups just look like an Accord coup from the side. The proportions don't please my eye. Nice interior though.
Hope Kumho feels better, our prayer are with Him. My dog chases possums, I hope he doesn't actually catch one!
I love the look of these new Merc coupes but damn it if I can tell them apart. The S class coupe, E class, and C class coupe all look the same to me. They look beautiful mind you, but they still all look the same. Give me a C 63 AMG and I'd be happy
If a man got this he got me! No but for reals nice car! Way better than boring sedan.
I would buy the 2018 Audi RS5 Coupe (probably topping out at $80K+ tho). More of a dynamic driving experience, and IHMO, slightly better looking. Although the metallic green on this Merc looks spectacular. -hailing from just outside Boston.
Me too! That RS5 is something special!
Something to be clubbed right?
ABT all the way!
I'd still take a RS5 over any C63amg. It's a matter of maturity V. boy racer thing and by boy racer thing, I really mean C63amg.
Mercedes needs an AMG E63 (S) Coupé.
it already has the same engine as an e43
Guess what, they just did.
In Detroit, you moron.
if i have it man tis is it MB E coupe 400
just built one online and it was closer to 91,000 usd... so i would do the extra spend and go entry level SL or LC500.
What a beautiful car. That said, I'm more a fan of sports coupes as opposed to big, luxury coupes. I save the luxury for my sedans... Thus, I'd be more tempted to buy a Porsche Cayman S at this price (or even a used 911) with a manual transmission. Complementing the sports car could be an E-class Mercedes sedan... (A little lighter on the budget, but I drive a 996 Porsche 911 now and an Infiniti G37X-S sedan.)
that nerd starter kit tho
Ny and I drive an S550
Scotland and I drive an S3
I drive an M235i in athens Georgia. I would get a cayman with that money.
That’s my favourite colour.
Compare it to Audi A5, or A7.
Denmark, and drive a RS6 Performance +
Kallaite green
I have 2018 😐 v 6 to slow for me
we need to buy you new shoes my homey
you mean homie*? 🤣🤣😐
What's wrong with the classic Chuck Taylors tho??
Caddy ATS-V. Because murica!
What happens to a dream deferred? The best competition for the Merc would be , in order, the concept Cadillac and the concept Hyundai Vision G coupe you reviewed at Pebble beach. In this segment, there are no coupes that really fit in a side by side comparison . Unless you want to include the Lexus LC 500, which has a higher price point. The ATS isn't up to that level of refinent or elegance in design and the M4 is boy racer by comparison . So that leaves the Jag, and I loath to say I would pick that tired, mewling alley cat.
It's one of the best looking cars on the road, but that beauty is unfortunately halved by the fact that all the other Mercedes have a similar (though inferior) design.
At this price point, I would consider a midsize luxury suv, like Mercedes own ML class or something from Lexus or Cadillac.
I'm from India and I drive a Skoda Octavia 2.0 diesel
damn these are running for around $160,000 in Australia. Id rather pay an extra $20,000 for a near new C63s coupe
yeah definitely would have the porsche 911 or Cayman depending on seat need and probably even an M2 or M240i if I need the back seats. Currently Driving a Z4M Coupe in South FL
does jeans man!! 😡 you got to change does jeans 👖 👎
A coup is something you keep chickens in a coupe is a type of car.
A Porsche Boxster S
I live in the US and for 60 to 80k I would by a Porsche or a BMW M8/8 series I like Mercedes and I want one in the future. But if you are spending over 60k there are better options.
Beautiful car, however a bit underwhelming. I have the feeling that Mercedes really didn’t care much about this car other than it being a discount S class (or inflated C class depending on how you look at it). I call shame on that, for in my honest opinion it’s the perfect middle child
Man the currents grills and badges look cheap and nasty on current Mercedes Benz. Can't beat understated kidney grills and Hofmeister kinks.
What an oddball
Isn't a coop a house for a chicken???????
The hood is too high, too much metal above the wheels. This makes the wheels look smaller, which looks unattractive.
Seems so old fashioned/cheap that it's still so heavy. Low tech.
this isn't some cheap american/asian tin can.
Light Yagami if they used more carbon, aluminium it would be lighter and stronger. Jaguar XJ from 2004-2009, which is a full size sedan, started at 3300 pounds. But aluminium would be more expensive.
I think you are very mistaken about the 2004 Jag XJ weighing 3300 pounds. I've looked at 3 sources and they range from 3699-3800+ pounds.
As for the E400, there really is no reason for Mercedes to make this car lighter. It would help a bit with fuel consumption but that's hardly a priority for this type of car to begin with anyway.
It's a very big car and on top of that it's a luxury car. Luxury = weight. It's got thick glass, tons of sound insulation, heated+cooled+massaging seats, all the safety and driver aids etcetc. The weight piles on pretty fast when you've got all the bells and whistles.
so let me understand this correctly, heavy is not a good thing? I guess you are so used to drive Honda Civic from the 90's, those are super light. :)
wow ur facts are wrong about xj. u can think what ever u want. but you shot you're self in the foot about making up fake jaguar xj curb weight. this specific Mercedes is roughly 4000-4100 ponds. and that on par with the its competition. what a joke you are Richard
XD
What's with the bumps left and right of the license plate? Reminds me of the ugly styling of 90's Dodge/Chrysler Sebring and Stratus line of sedans. Why bring such a hideous design style back? It was ugly then and it's still ugly now. Yuck!
Civic Type R: 330hp out of a Turbocharged 4cyl 2L engine. E400: 329hp out of a Twinturbo 3L V6. I'm not impressed.
Soul Younes you shouldn't be impressed with the Honda: Mercedes gets 375hp and 350 lb-ft out of 2 liters in the CLA45
