Discover Thailand: Epic 9-hour train ride on the southern line

  • We took the Special Express 43 down south to Surat Thani. This is the only Special Express that runs during the day. Most people take the night train because it makes catching the ferry to Koh Samui feasible. If you take the day train, you arrive too late to take the day ferries, although you could take a night boat. We decided that Surat Thani might be an interesting place so rather than rush to Koh Samui, we stayed in the city for five days. Our Surat Thani video will follow this video in one week.

Hey Escapers! Completely agree about trains in the US. Public transportation in the US always seems sketchy which is the exact opposite of other countries. Hopefully that is something we will improve.
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏😊

Great video folks! We are heading to Ko Samui near the end of the month. How much was the train ride?

Hi fellow CZcamsrs! Thanks for checking out our channel. The train ride was very budget friendly at 524 baht each. We initially started by trying to book through the State Railway of Thailand website, but ended up using Baolau instead simply because it was a bit easier. The decision to use the train was pretty simply due to cost. We ended up taking the ferry to Koh Samui which was a bit more effort than we initially expected (also a cost decision). Check out our video on Saturday because we cover Surat Thani which you might be interested in visiting before or after Samui. We ended up taking a sleeper train down to Malaysia from Surat Thani. We haven’t looked at the video clips yet, but we’ll probably post something about that experience in a few weeks.
      Cheers!

We have some downtime coming up so we’ll catch up on your travels. Looks like we’ve been to many of the same places in Spain. -Chris
