    Quoting the blurb on Amazon, since I was about to ask this question and then decided to just see if the Amazon page said anything:
    "The countertop water filters last for a long time between 12-24 months to provide 1-2 years of clean drinking water before needing replacement. Filters are also designed to help save water with an impressive 2:1 Pure to Drain ratio. Monitor display shows the service life of filters and water quality so you can easily keep track of filter replacement and periodically switch out filter tubes."

    Thks for the insight! I hesitated on spending a couple hundred bucks upfront, not knowing how long they would really last and cost (vs what the company claimed). They were under a different brand name with the identical product, kinda worried that the cost and reliability of the replacement filters in the long term.
    Also, it would be a perfect water system if they could have added a built in option for hot/cold water in the system, the true all in one system is fully available in the Chinese market. Hope there would be more choices in the US market soon.

    I have a Bluevua under sink unit. After a year the replace filter alarm started going off and measuring with a meter showed output TDS rising to over 100ppm. While waiting to get the replacement filters in I got tired of hearing the unit beeping like a smoke detector with weak batteries so I hit the rest button and NOW THE UNIT IS FILTERING TO 3PPM AGAIN! The unit is rated to 500 gallons a day. I probably use 3-5 gallons a week so I don't think I've exhausted the elements yet but wondering why something in the software made it seem like the filters were shot.

    • @APEX.86
      @APEX.86  Před rokem +1

      The "500 gal per day" is the maximum flow rate if you ran it constantly. It doesn't say anything about how long the filters last.
      That seems odd though. Have you backed up either TDS measurement with a second measuring device?

    • @datmeme8967
      @datmeme8967 Před rokem +1

      @@APEX.86 I have 2 of them, they read the same thing. And I know the 500 g/d is a flow capacity, but I think they use that to estimate the lifespan of the filters if they were used at that run rate. Then the software shuts the system down and throws a flag.

      @APEX.86  Před rokem +14

      Show me one RO filter that doesn't have plastic.
      It's really not a concern to me because after the water exits the final RO filter, the amount of time it contacts plastic is extremely short. Any potential leeching is a time dependent function. A couple seconds of contact compared to hours or days sitting in a plastic pitcher is far better.

    This may be a silly question…..why do you have to dump the waste water on the fist run? Couldn’t you just add more tap water to dilute the concentrated minerals previously filtered out and run another cycle before discarding? Or just keep doing that continuously?

    • @APEX.86
      @APEX.86  Před rokem +10

      You could. But this would shorten the life of the filters and increase the TDS in your filtered water.

    • @APEX.86
      @APEX.86  Před rokem +4

      @Niko Franchilli do you not have access to tap?
      You don't have to throw away the discard water, you can water plants or use it for cleaning, but you should not leave it in the tank.
      All RO systems reject water like this. Under the counter RO systems waste about double the amount of water and it goes straight down the drain. So, for an RO system, the bluevua is very efficient.

    Does this machine remineralize the water through the filtration process? My understanding is reverse osmosis effectively makes “dead water” removing all minerals because of how stringent the filtration processes is and you are supposed to remineralize post reverse osmosis.
    Thank for the clarification.

    • @APEX.86
      @APEX.86  Před rokem +13

      It does not.
      In my own research I haven't found anything compelling saying that there are health issues associated with drinking distilled / RO water. Obviously we need minerals and salts in our diet, but food contains orders of magnitude more than water can hold.
      You can always add electrolyte drops to the water if you are worried. You can even make your own drops with sea salt.

      @APEX.86 true distilled water will leech volatiles. Thats why there is a market for ionized distilled water. If you ionize the distilled water, it doesn't leech as much.
      I remember watching a video about distilled water and how destructive it is. Like, distilled water will cause stainless steel to rust over relatively short amounts of time because it will absorb and strip the stainless finish.
      That is not to say drinking distilled water is necessarily dangerous. But it is a great way to cause a heart attack and brittle bones if you're not ingesting extra electrolytrs, it can strip you of potassium and calcium.

      Their response - I am so sorry to hear the system stop working. Please be noted that the electric program of the newer versions of the ROPOT units has got updated: a manual flushing function has been added to help maintain the ROPOT unit. Every 15-30 days, the banana-shaped water volume button and the round water-making button will flash together, reminding the user to conduct the routine back-flushing. If you see the two buttons flashing, please follow the reminder and press these two buttons simultaneously to trigger the 6 minutes self-cleaning to flush out the remaining contaminants. The unit will be functional again once the back-flushing process is completed.

      Hi Viva, I am from the Bluevua Team. The electric program of the newer versions of the ROPOT units has been updated - a manual flushing function has been added to help maintain the ROPOT unit. When the banana-shaped water volume button and the round water-making button blink together, please follow the reminder and short-press these two buttons simultaneously to trigger the 6 minutes self-cleaning to flush out the remaining contaminants. The unit will be back on track once the back-flushing process is completed.

      Mine just did this. Amazon's write up for the product within the first bullet point says "When the banana-shaped water volume button and the round water-making button flashing together, please follow the reminder and press them simultaneously to trigger the 6 minutes self-cleaning to flush out the remained contaminants."
      I didn't see this anywhere in the material that came with the unit. And I looked a couple times.
      I pushed both buttons, and it was actually not as easy as I thought it would be to trigger the cleaning. Apparently the first couple or three times I tried, I didn't push them together well enough? I don't know, but it did finally go.
      No water went into the drinking pot. So I assume it just cycled some water through the system (it did make noise for a few mins) and I assume it dumped some contaminants into the water compartment.
