  • @njlauren
    @njlauren Před 16 dny

    Okay, now you get my analysis. First of all, we need to figure out how to blackmail Legend into allowing you to use his image on a new T shirt "NY Jets 2024- No Excuses, or Else!!".
    My analysis FWIW:
    My biggest concern has been and continues to be on the coaching staff (and my personnel analysis feeds into this), they have shown an incredible lack of ability to adjust to anything. Injuries happen in the NFL, it is a reality, and does anyone think outside Ulbricht (who I have to apologize to, I wasn't enamored with him) they can? Hackett showed 0 ability, he didn't even try to come up with an offensive scheme that would work with Wilson et al. I realize they stank at QB, that we had 0 good backups I think was on JD and Saleh (and prob woody), that they were trying to salvage Wilson and didn't want to hurt his fragile ego (which is another reason Zach won't make it in the NFL, if he is that fragile, he ain't gonna make it. Take a look at the best QB's in the league, they all have healthy to outsize egos, in the sense that they don't need to be pampered the way Wilson was). Hackett just looks like a clipboard holder for Rodgers. I like Taylor at backup, he is as solid as they come, but using Rodgers plays with Taylor who is very different isn't going to work well.
    And Carter? The man sucked when they had the supposed starting lineup in there, they were uncoordinated, it was evident (when Saleh said he had to talk to Carter about communicating with the players as an experienced manager I wanted to vomit; how the hell did that clown become a coach, let alone a senior coach, without being able to communicate? Carter is another of Saleh's buds he promotes as coaches, I would be embarassed to admit a coach of mine couldn't communicate, good god, it is fundamental to the job!). Are the rest of the O coaches any good? Do they have a real QB coach who can work with Rodgers and the kid they drafted (yes, folks, we have to worry about the future, this could be ARs last year, win, lose or draw). The offense scares the hell out of me.
    The line? Yes, there are now proven players there, but what are the odds it will all work according to plan? AVT is a great player but has gone down with serious injuries 2 years in a row (which increases the chances he will get hurt again). Moses is older and has had injuries, smith has been injured a lot, and Simpson while he has been sturdy, and started all last year for the Ravens and seemed decent, is not a guaranteed performer, plus he has to learn Carter's system. Tippman looked good last year, but he is still young, can Carter and co coach him up to the next level? The Jets line to me is problematic because it basically is a case we have to hope everything goes right, that no one goes down for any length of time, and that they are able to gell as a unit since only AVT and Tippman have played together (Moses was on the Jets, but not under Can't Coach Carter). If injuries happen while I don't think Warren and Schweitzer are bad backups, we still need depth (like McGovern at Center as fa), I worry about Carter's ability to adjust, the man just seems that stupid. And with AVT, will he be ready for camp? Or will he be like Brown was last year, where he doesn't play in camp and is activated at the season start (see gelling with rest of o line).
    I liked them drafting Fashenu, but if Smith goes down, can he take over at LT, can Carter and co coach him up to be ready by let's say week 9 or 10? Given Smith's history, it is unlikely he plays the full season, especially at MetLife Infirmary.
    Receiver group looks okay if williams can play against Wilson. But the drop off is huge, my bet is Lazard is a bust once again (even AR seemed pissed at him in OTA), and then we have gipson and brownlee, who you hope with AR throwing the ball will be better, then a bunch of ??? players. And will Williams be ready at start of season? We have heard little about his recovery, will he be at camp? Again, we have to hope Williams recovers in full form, even if he is in camp it may take time before he is near 100%.
    Running backs it is basically Breez. I think he will be fine, but behind him there is izzy and ???. My big fear is Hackett is such an idiot that unless AR audibles and throws to Breez, they won't use him that way. The idiot west coast offense (a term I despise as much as Analytics only sports) doesn't acknowledge RBs exist. Plus if Jets run the ball, it sets up play action and the like, but will Hackett understand that since he lives in the 80's?
    TE I think we are okay, though again Hackett is a problem, West Coast says TEs are blocking backs. Again, let's hope AR audibles on that.
    Rodgers obviously is going to be how he has recovered from the achilles. Yeah, he was throwing and running again pretty quickly which is a good sign, but has the achilles caused other problems, like with throwing mechanics? I am not saying it will, and it OTA he looked pretty decent from what I have read and seen. I am not concerned about him in recovering from it, he was the anti Bechton, he went after the recovery and seems to have done the right things. I think playing wise he will be fine, if the OL holds up, even at let's say 75% he is better than most qbs in the league, and is better than anything the Jets have had in decades quite honestly (I would say Vinnie the Guinea when on top of his game).
    Again coaching wise it will come down to Hackett and his staff prepping the players. Assuming AR is calling the shots on the play calling, then it will be how the O coaching staff puts it together..which is a big concern for me.
    The defense I am less worried about. Yeah, losing Huff, Reddick being a turd, I am not happy. That said, I think the D coaching staff has proven that they can handle things. Given the nature of the defense with their rotational scheme, it is unlikely that the loss of a player or 2 is going to hurt them. Safety is a question mark still, though Davis surprised me a bit and Adams might be solid enough not to worry. Corner with Gardner, Reed and Carter should be one of the elite tandems in the league. Edge Rushing capability should be okay if Clemmons and McDonald step up especially.
    LB is stronger, with Quincy and Mosely there, Sherwood should be decent enough.
    Run stopping is a concern, though, can the line and LB stuff it better than they have? It still remains a question mark, the one blot on the defense/coaching staff.
    ST I am fine, that JD didn't stupidly let Zeurlein and Morestead go to save some money (I was expecting that), it is a strong point of this team. Be interesting to see with the kickoff rule change how the jets fare.
    Overall, on paper if everything falls right can win 12 games I am sure. That said, my concern is for that to happen it has to drop right, the O line has to stay relatively health and play well especially. When you have a scheme where everything has to go right and you rely, like the Jets, on excuses if it doesn't (the injury bleating is one of Saleh's favorites) rather than have redundancy plans, I worry, because as Moltke, the famous German field martial said "
    No plan of operations extends with certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemy's main strength.". What he means is to win you have to adjust constantly, something the Jets coaching staff has exhibited a complete lack of ability to do. Because of that and the odds of injuries, my guess is that the Jets will end up at 9 and 8.The Jets coaching staff never heard of plan for the worst but hope for the best, they plan for the best and excuse the worst.

    NFC West
    49ers = Outstanding
    Rams = Very Good ( Quick turn around on a soft rebuild)
    Seahawks = Better than Average ( OL questions; Defense Very Good)
    Cardinals = Marginal ( Respectable Draft; Very Good QB.)
    AFC South
    Colts = Good
    Jags = Good
    Texans = Better than Good
    Titans = (Marginal with Very Good Playmakers)
    You see...
    I've been studying our opponents....not just touting what the NYJ have on their roster.
    Hence why I lowered my prediction to 7-8 wins...margin of error +/- 1-2 games.
    Book it.

      @@michaelrobinson6014 your comment is brilliant and long awaited. I feel like I’m alone on that island. This fan base, every season, goes into a mode that we are the defending champs. I have to feel that the majority of people who listen to jets content people are casual fans. It’s those fans who find out that jets lost and are disappointed for a second and get back to their lives. A passionate jets fan who loses sleep over this team will absolutely do this math. 16 AFC teams. 7 make the playoffs. I honestly see 9 teams more likely and see the Jets along with 3-4 other teams vying for a wild card. If Raven and Chiefs are a given then that leaves 5. Browns get back Chubb and got to the playoffs without him. Burrow is back and Bengals almost made playoff without him. Bills and Dolphins ain’t going anywhere. Steelers always seem to be in wildcard. Texans are on edge way up. Jaguars choked but play ok in the regular season. Raiders, broncos, colts and Jags all won 9 games last year. 3 of them had backup type QB’s. Again, there are 3 division winners, other than the AFC East. So either the Jets win the division which they have not come close to doing or they grab one of the 3 wild cards. I don’t see them winning the east so they are looking at one of the wild cards with a ton of others who have fared better

      Yeah...
      I'm constantly looking for angles that the NYJ can sneak into the playoffs. But if they remain healthy....applying the same scenario to other teams...it's going to be trying season. God forbid if Garrett goes down...cause based on the limited financial resources...and Thanks for that Woody with the Aaron Rodgers move...then the NYJ could be in real trouble.
      So hey,
      It is what it is.
      Go Jets!!!!
      Get that winning record....it's all I'm truly hoping for this season.

      @@LetsTalkJetsRadio True...but 11-12 wins...is a bit much. I told you last season...8-9 wins is more realistic.
      Takes some time...and observe what our opponents are doing.
      You might have a different point of view.

    Jets fans, don't set yourselves up for more miserable disappointment. Miserable disappointment is what this franchise has been about for over a half century now.

    Here’s what I see. A 41 year old QB coming off ACL with both tackles north of 30 with one not playing a full season since 2016. Then the best Guard has been the league 3 years and he’s been healthy for one. Their number 2 WR is new and coming off ACL. They have no back up running back. They have the worst game day coach in the league and have never had a home field advantage. Bills and Dolphins consistently won at home.

      @@LetsTalkJetsRadio there is talent on every team, but not every team is talented. 7 teams make the playoffs in the AFC out of 16. That’s a huge percentage. The Jets own the record in the 4 major sports for missing this. AR is polarizing. Ask Jermichael Finely and Donald Driver and you’ll get a different opinion on his value to a team then a bright eyed 23 year old rookie. I’m ok with AR being a prick if we get one playoff game. Then what about next year? We’ve got arguable the worst GM/Coach duo. Do you really see them being one of the 7 and if so, which 9 teams do you see not making it?

      @@LetsTalkJetsRadio I hope you’re right my friend, but I’ve never felt this right about things either. We have a lot going against us in terms of bad ownership, GM, Coach, field conditions, high tax state and insane media. We can’t get talent in their prime to come here. For that reason who have to take talent like an aging AR and older tackles and hope to blend them with draft picks. I’m hoping the formula works and that in a few years where not seeing Hall, Gardner and GW all playing elsewhere.
