    As I stated on the boards where this was posted. I am a flat rate tech (paid by the job not the hour) so multitasking is in my blood when working at the dealer and it came through in this video. Besides as fast as I ratchet it off not filming with the other hand the 3 turns are done rather quickly always rushing being flat rate. So siphoning the fuel from the tak will only happen for mere seconds no big deal.

    I've had some issues using a 1 ¼ inch wrench changing filters. It sometimes pops the bottom out of the cap. Plastic wasn't the best design for this housing. My Ford dealer tells me that I'm not the only one that has had this problem. In fact, they stock new caps because it occurs regularly. I've started using a strap wrench with a half inch wide strap around the body of the cap to install and remove it. I've had no issues with that method to date. I have busted two caps within 1 ¼ inch socket. It might be worth a try for you and if you don't have the tool they are common and fairly cheap.

    Our 2016....the engine filter had the front fuel line clip facing down (green one in this video). But our rear one (squeeze tab) was same. Had to use a long flat blade screwdriver to pop the green tab out/downward.
    Still easy as pie.
    Used a Motorcraft kit and the engine filter went right in no probs. Heard some size variations with aftermarket filters make it really tight.
    The frame filter....bought the shallow socket and it was super tight. Ended up using filter strap and the wrench due to seen where people's had their socket but break clean off. Replacement of the housing is needed if that happens.

    FYI: When changing filters while the vehicle is on ramps, loosen gas cap! My truck was on 10 deg incline and the pump continued to show bubbles. I figured out the problem by priming the system filling a small gas can. The clear line showed constant flow of bubbles. When it was full I went to dump it back in the truck...the tank had MAJOR suction. So I left the cap off and primed again. No bubbles. Started right up. Yes, I used some grease around the gasket, and made sure it was all the way screwed on.

    Just did this on my 2012, don't know why the dealer wants $140 to do this simple filter change.
    Why did you not loosen the water separator housing before draining it? If you loosen it three turns and then open the drain it will drain the fuel out in about a minute, by not loosening it before opening the drain it will keep drawing fuel from the tank by syphon action. Plus you won't have all that fuel draining out on your hand and ratchet like it did in your demonstration.

    I just recently bought a 2011 f350 6.7, did the fuel filter change today. Your video was spot on helpful, everything went well changing out my filters except when I reinstalled the rail filter underneath. It came off and went on easy I tightened it down it stopped out of reach from the sensor hookup. I did not over tighten, It turned like it should it just did the stop thing to far. So I had to back it off about less then a 1/8th of inch to reach the sensor. Any idea why it stops past the sensor.

The primary had a lot of crusty dirt around it and needed to be hosed down lightly with water before removal. The secondary didn't have the factory bleed port, whew!. Thank you for the video, very helpful. However I must tell you that the upper or secondary fuel filter, the line in the center was indeed under some pressure. Fuel sprayed all over the engine and up onto the underside of the hood. I am not complaining because it gave me a good reason to clean under the hood. I would like to know how to alleviate that pressure next filter change.

    Question for FordTechMakuloco,or anyone else
    I watched yours and several others on the removal and reinstall of the main fuel filter and when I removed my filter a small piece of plastic fell on the cement floor which turned out to be I think the tab that stops the filter from turning on any more. So I went to the dealer and bought a new housing and when installing it if I go to the stop as shown in the videos the wif sensor cable will not fit as the filter housing goes past the so called stopping point. So I backed up the housing 1/8 turn and finished with the normal procedure and did the 6 times ignition on/off for 30 seconds etc and checked for leaks and everything seems good. So because this filter housing did not come to a complete stop should I be concerened? The O'ring looks like it seals on the diameter inside the housing and not against a bottom lip inside the housing. I am not sure why the reason for the dead stop other than making sure that the inside threads do not engage the O'ring. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
    Thanks

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  Před 9 lety +1

      boatbuilder1 1/8 a turn I would not be worried about it the filter housing engages the oring way before the stopping point so it should be sealed a plenty.

      @boatbuilder1954 Před 9 lety

      FordTechMakuloco Thanks for easing My mind FordTechMakuloco that is what I was thinking. Next time I replace the filter I am going to do a dry run without the O-ring just to see if the bowl does come to the stopping point. I assume there is some sort of tab on the upper portion that the bowl screws into that makes contact but I could not see it.

      If all you do is open the drain valve I swear because of the siphoning effect you could drain your whole tank. If you twist the filter housing lose a little it breaks the vacuum and the fuel will stop coming out.

    this was the hardest damned fuel filter change in my life. and the most expensive. first of all, the filter housing broke when i used a ratchet. Then, the rest of it began to break when i used a filter wrench. Then I bought a strap wrench which broke and wouldn't open the thing. Then, I went hunting for a sensor because nobody had one. Finally, I figured out I could use my old one. No dealership or parts counter people helped me figure that out. Now, the one extra o-ring that came with the housing for the bleed valve broke, and it's leaking everywhere. Now, I have to go find the right sized o-ring. IT NEVER ENDS. Shoulda just taken it to the shop.

    If these filters are dirty or clogged will they cause a humming sound coming from the fuel pump in the tank? Its getting time to change mine and I'm getting a humming sound from my fuel pump in the tank and i'm thinking that the filters are semi clogged and they are causing my pump to work a little harder.

      Yes they will, but more common is o rings installed wrong and Ford say 1/4 tank and under the hum noise from the pump is normal. I have changed quite a few pumps out for humming noises even low mileage. The pump is on the frame rail in front of the tank where the primary fuel filter is I show in the video.

    I changed my main fuel filter and in the bottom of the fuel pan I used to catch the diesel from the filter were 2 small springs. Does anyone know what they go to?

      @eddievelez2619 Před 5 lety

      The springs came from the Wif sensor, where prongs connect to the filter.

      Chase Gardner Gardner Yeah they all seem to have it. Does it go away when the oil is changed for awhile?

    • @chasegardnergardner4034
      @chasegardnergardner4034 Před 9 lety

      Yeah it seems to get lower but it's off and on I don't think it's anything bad it runs fine?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  Před 9 lety

      Chase Gardner Gardner According to Ford no it's nothing bad definite tolerance issue but nothing back. They had a few guys putting Carbon Black super polymer additive in to fix the noise.

      You literally cycle the button 6 times without putting your foot on the brake pedal.

    odd question for you, I'd read on a forum about a guy putting a pump for a 6.7 on his 6.0, would that just snap in or are the lines different, and more importantly are the pressures and such the same? I had to disconnect my new FASS crap because it kept loosing pressure, that 6.7 filter looks alot easier than my 6.0 frame mount.

    • @AceBoy2099
      @AceBoy2099 Před 8 lety

      also is the frame filters between the 2 the same, I don't recall seeing the water membrane on that 6.7 filter like my 6.0 has.

      +AceBoy2099 everything is different one is HEUI the other is common rail way different systems.
