    I just added this mod to my 1412. Really appreciate you sharing this.

    I built this dust shroud for my bandsaw 3 weeks ago. I want to thank you for sharing your mod. there is minimal dust on top with round cuts and even with using a sled. I can feel air pressure with my hand over the narrow slot on the sled! I've also resawed ~ 4" wide stock and the dust collection is greatly improved. as you said, most of the dust is from the initial cut, once the blade is buried in the stock, there is minimal dust. thanks again

    I just finished it up with one minor modification for my 14/BX. It's a great upgrade for the never ending fight against dust. Thank you very much for the video AND the plans!

      Everything else on the 1412 bandsaw is top notch. Resaws like a 220v tool. Especially with a 1/2" Resaw King blade. Best of luck on your decision.

    Really nice solution. I have a larger Laguna, but also have dust collection issues. Will see if this will work on mine. Thanks for the idea. The rare earth magnets are great.

    Just want to say thank you for your creativity and design. I recently purchased the 14/12 and was very happy with the cuts I got with the Laguna Resaw King. My only complaint was the dust collection. It spat debris all over the floor just below the table in the front and sides. I have a 3 hp Oneida V system and I was measuring over 700 FPM in the 4 inch hose attached to the dust port. That should have been good enough. But the airflow around the blade below the bottom guides was pitiful. Then I found your post. I looked closely at the lumberjacks site and was able to consolidate all of the information to come up with the dimensions of all the components and now I've got to build it. But, based on your video, and giving it a lot of thought, I'm confident it is going to work as you have demonstrated. My only reservation is whether or not the Resaw King somehow spits the debris out differently than the blade you used.

      Hi Nicholas, thanks for the nice comments. You will like the new dust collection box. It works just as well with the Resaw King blade, which I also have. I use a 1/2" ProForce blade for everyday cuts though. Best.

    I have the exact same saw without your dust collection improvement and I can assure you my lower cabinet has never looked that clean! Definitely an improvement I'm going to have to make when I have a chance. Thanks for sharing! I'd also be interested in your table extension if you have any info on that.

    Where did get the different extrusion for the fence? I am unhappy with my 14BX fence and would like to make some stuff that still attaced to the lockable piece that moves left and right. Great mods!

    By chance, do you have a particle count meter and have you looked at changes in fines in the air before and after? This looks like a great idea, but I've come to believe that what we see may not be a good indicator of changes to fines, which are too small to see. Offhand, my guess is that your mod must help because of the increased velocity, but have you measured in any way?

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker
      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 2 lety

      I've measured with an anemometer for airflow, but not with a particle meter. I know that some mods only make marginal improvement, but from personal experience and from others who have commented here... this mod makes a tremendous difference.

    Why not run 4” on both ports? Asking because I’m about to do a similar project and have 4” going to bandsaw and was going to do 4” Y - two 4”s but see u did a 4 and 2”

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker
      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 2 lety +1

      My setup is honestly more like two 2-1/2" ports. The lower port is 4" in size, but it's choked off by a magnetic cover inside the lower cabinet. The upper port is 2-1/2" in size and relies on high suction and air velocity more than CFM. I've experimented with a lot of bandsaw DC setups and the ones with a high velocity upper pickup box (like this one) seem to perform best.
      If you have a 3-5hp dust collector you could probably get away with two 4" ports.

      Ugh yeah I’m not sure what todo I have a 2 HP grizzly that is only hooked up to table saw and a Dust right Quick Change hose that I connect to band saw but it’s an older 14 inch model that came with 0 dust collection and a bunch of gaps for dust to fly everywhere- I installed a 4” port on the bottom cabinet where lower tire is but it doesn’t do much as there’s a lot of open space between cut area and port so gonna add something similar below the table like u did - guess I’ll have to experiment more

    This really begs the question as to why machines of this price point don't come with proper dust collection design built into them?

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker
      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 2 lety

      The 1412 is on the lower side of the price scale, but includes a lot of the big boy features. Bandsaws in any price point seem to have mediocre dust collection, but the good news is... It's easy to fix!

      @@TheThoughtfulWoodworker Ok thanks. I looked at mine earlier and it will have to be wider to fit mine. I have came up with a large number of woodworking conglomerations in my day. I can most likely take your idea and templates and taylor them to fit my saw.
