I'm 47 and I have never seen stage presence and confidence live nearly as amazing as these ladies, even with this video when they were literal teenagers.
My wife and I saw them back to back in Houston and Dallas last year, our first time seeing them live, and they were easily the best performances I've seen in my life.
Their relentless energy is infectious. They are so amazingly prepared and professional yet are the best at letting loose and just being silly and cute, its an experience!
Also, latelt they've been doing way more personal crowd interacting.. my wife made me a pair of those shiny shoulder armor they wear (you saw it in Ratatata) and we were maybe 6 feet from the stage in Dallas and Moa noticed and laughed and gave a wave. They work so hard to let the audience know they are appreciated and loved and that's just amazing!
And yeah, there was a wall of death and full pits for Road of Resistance in Texas both shows! The crowd knows what they want already by now haha!

I'm 60. Seen so many concerts, so many great bands. Played so many shows myself. Went to see Babymetal about a month ago, and they're listed in my top 5 best shows ever. Both the band behind them and the women. Su has such a great voice, but the musical compositions are so beautiful and raw at the same time.
I was never too much into metal, more into hardcore punk, because I like the socially/politically directed anger much more that macho songs about mutulation. But Babymetal gave rise to brutal music with beautiful, and still powerful vocals.

This is all from one concert. It was filmed at "Legend 2015 - The New Year Fox Festival" in January 2015 at Saitama Super Arena with around 20,000 fans in attendance. Walls of death, circle pits, and crowd surfing are a staple parts of Babymetal live shows.
Yes there is a unique choreography for every song in their catalogue. Yuimetal and Moametal are backing vocalists and dancers, while Su-metal is the lead vocalist. At the time this was filmed, Su-metal was 17, and Yuimetal and Moametal were 15.
If it sounds a lot like Dragonforce, it's because it was inspired by Dragonforce and Herman Li and Sam Totman played the guitars on the studio recording as well as having performed it live with Babymetal several times over the years. This song isn't really typical of Babymetal's sound however, they only have about three or four real power metal songs. Their catalogue of songs is pretty varied across the metal landscape and they certainly do djenty drop tuned songs as well.
This was the final song of the encore for this particular show. RoR is usually the closer for most of their live sets.

"I figure we'll listen to a couple of songs. Let me know if there are any others..."😄😄😄😄Sorry not meaning to be rude it's just Babymetal have such a huge catalog of songs and perfromances. And yeah, live is the way to go.
This performance is from 2015. Su-lead vocals, Moa&Yui-backing vocals and crowd control-were 17 and 15&15 at the time. The Dragonforce vibe is because Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote and did the original guitar arrangements and played them on the album release.
Babymetal are still going strong-with one personnel change and are arguably the best or certainly one of the best live acts ever. They are legendary for their crowd control. You should def check out a more recent concert to witness how rocking they still are after all these years. My suggestion "Megitsune" live PIA Arena, April, 2023 (link follows): czcams.com/video/edbqQ-ldF_U/video.html

At the end of BabyMetal's most iconic song "GIMME CHOCOLATE", there is a sentence for fans who are going to BabyMetal's concert: "SEE YOU IN THE MOSH'SH PIT". Yes, BabyMetal concerts have pits. Thanks for your great reaction. I recommend BabyMetal - Headbanger legend 1997.🦊

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 Před měsícem +21

Good reaction. I had to laugh when you were wondering why there were three of them and only one singing ... as the other two were singing.
Su-metal is lead vocalist, Yuimetal and Moametal (now Moametal and Momometal - Yui left the band in 2018 after a 12 month absence for health reasons, Momometal became the new third member in April 2023) do backing vocals, harmonies and lead the choreo, engage with the crowd, get everybody joining in.
Su has the hand mic, Yui and Moa were wearing headset mics.
This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su-metal was 17, Yuimetal and Moametal only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, I think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was also the end of a 90 minute concert - they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
About the song itself - 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way (ie the path of least resistance) or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band (they introduced choreographed dancing for a start), they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy road to follow.
This song sounds like DragonForce because Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. They even played it together at an awards show in London later that year.
This was the Kami Band supporting BABYMETAL of course.
Try another song - it won't sound like this, BABYMETAL are not like those bands who limit themselves to just one genre and play songs that all sound the same.
Next go for 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 posted by abr metal. Legend 1997 was their concert in Dec 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997, she is the legend.

    Welcome back to the Foxhole🦊🤘🔥
Nice to see you're back with this suggestion to follow your BM journey, just like here it was the ender for almost every show at the World Tour 2023/2024 and everyone loved to have fun with this one such recently at the Europe Tour already finished a week ago, and prior to that at Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, they did a fun interview about it and you can see they were excited with Slipknot returns, another band BM producer loves) they were very supportive during early era or Metal Resistance chapter and just recently they were invited to be part of the line up at Knotfest in Brazil in October, marking the first time in South America for BM, also they played at San Francisco as part of the Babyklok Tour along with Dethklok and DragonForce were there playing too, another supportive band since BM beginning career and also involved in the album version of this song as well some live collabs together around those years.
They're international global phenomenon and locally they're one the biggest in the Jmetal scene, but comparing to Jpop idol groups they're not so big, regardless they got massive fanbase around the world.
Here's some basic info for you just in case:
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 25.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but remember that status changed last year.
    About this song:
"Road Of Resistance" is a power/speed metal song, it's one of their most epic anthems and the album version got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce. It's all about facing your own path without looking back.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, by this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they're performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are real and magnificent set of elite musicians, they were sent to help the girls with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarists).
    They are:
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly passed away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but his fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father was very famous in Japanese music scene.
At the end of their shows they always said "We are BabyMetal!" with the crowd, to make them sure that they're part of this show and project too, is a line borrowed from X-Japan saying it at live concerts too.
    Next suggestion:
    - Headbanger!! live at Legend 1997 (2013)
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover)
In your video, Su shouted some words at 09:17 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She has shouted that phrase occasionally since then and when she does, it is with her friendly smile and matured mild voice that I love 😄
We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock

Yeah, the Queen demanded a "Wall of Death". And the crowd obliged. It is always like this 😄 Nowadays she does it "just in case", as the WoD is ready to go right at the beginning of "Road of Resistance" already. Never seen a crowd NOT opening the WoD. The song is the ending, most of the time. Opener is "BABYMETAL Death", most of the time. You should check that one out, too! I got those two live myself in a rather small venue, it was such a blast!

As already said, Su-metal is the lead singer while Yuimetal (in this video, and now Momometal) and Moametal are in charge of the backing vocals (and most of the choreo as well as getting the crowd involved).
Yes, this was the final encore, the grand finale of a 90+ minutes concert all performed with this level of energy. It's just epic.
They are big in Japan. They are able to sell out effortlessly a big ass arena, twice. They also sold out the freaking Tokyo Dome (also twice, 55K people each night) in 2016. They headlined Summer Sonic festival in 2023, etc, etc. The thing is that metal is still a niche genre both in Japan and overseas, unfortunately. Here in Europe and in the US they perform in 3K-6K people venues (not counting festivals)... although I saw them recently in a 11K one in France, because they were supposed to co-headline with Bad Omens and they couldn't make it. The place was nearly packed, tho.
I'm an old-school metalhead and I've been to many concerts since the late 80's. Now I can say that I've been to several BABYMETAL concerts as well (including two big format shows in Japan). So, I'm in a position to say that they are currently the best live act out there.
I second the suggestions for "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997).

People complain about Babymetal being manufactured, and it really wasn't in the way people think, because as you mentioned in Japan metal isn't big as you said. There are better ways to make money in music, back in 2010 when Babymetal was formed. Now thanks in large part to Babymetal, rock and metal is thriving over there. Babymetal is hands down the most successful international act Japan has ever had, they are the first Asian band to have a #1 rock, metal, and world album on US Billboard, they just had a #1 single in the US with Ratatata, you can just go on with numbers. They are something of a reverse import; Japan picked up interest due to their international success. Babymetal has really paved the way for the rock/metal bands that have come after like Lovebites and Band Maid. A really good metalcore song they did is Kingslayer with Bring Me the Horizon, check out the live video, or for prog they have a collab with Polyphia, Brand New Day with a live video. hey cannot be put in one box, they mix it up. Rock, pop, rap, metal, well it's all Babymetal.

    • @marcoskazu_
      @marcoskazu_ Před měsícem +1

I agree with you. The accusation that Babymetal is a fabricated band is prejudice. Their critics fail to realize that bands like Metallica, Kiss (well, Kiss!), Queen (when it existed), Ozzy Osbourne (with the famous businesswoman Sharon Osbourne behind it!) and many others aim for the mainstream and increasing profit. They are professionals who need to pay (high) bills (which grow with each performance) and musical and visual investments also grow. These girls have worked incredibly hard since their adolescence and deserve success after over a decade of hard work. Let's imagine their tough rehearsals to sing and dance at the same time! The work of creating and maintaining their costumes. They may not be recognized by critics, but the public approves of them with great affection and recognition. They are not arrogant and always strive to maintain cooperation at work. I believe they are good examples.

The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that - even after you watch a few of them! Anyway . . . .
You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums with over fifty songs, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs (with links to suggested versions). The first sixteen are from what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" (better known as "The Yui Era"). Hi from Ireland amazing live shiw from a young girl only 17, great reaction I enjoyed it, you will get lots of suggestions, I would definitely not make gimme chocolate as your next and I am an avid fan, it's a very early release when they were mixing heavy with cutie, and it has stopped some people from going further because they think it's the norm. Definitely do recent to start, monochrome live at pia, megitsune live at pia, and as a recent comparison road of resistance live at pia, they are 2023, fantastic show and stage, metal kingdom another amazing love show 😊

So you watch a Live Babymetal song and think...now I understand. Umm......no you don't.
    LoL!!
Babymetal is hella Eclectic!! They can lay down some serious Thrash and follow it up with some Major Progressive Metal and then throw Pop-Metal fusion at you to lull you into a happy place so you are unprepared for what comes next....like singing of a Faceless Terror chasing them until they die...or Crucifying their 16yr old lead singer on her Birthday in front of 20,000 people!!!!
You have no Idea what lays in wait for you dude!!
    More Babymetal Always!!

For popularity, while I'm not sure exactly but to put it somewhat in perspective, to see them in Japan, you get entered into a ticket lottery to see them. (From a limited research into seeing what it would potentially cost to see them in Japan). That being said, with Babymetal, The One, can never get enough reactions, so you'll likely be bombarded (In a good way) with suggestions for more Babymetal. Both Grington and Jakemuller have already suggested another great song for you with Headbanger live @ Legend 1997. Alternatively, I would also suggest Karate. Either music video or live @ Download 2016 (Karate is one of the few exceptions where the music video actually does get recommended) better yet, do a double reaction doing both the music video and the live version.

@@themusicalpancake1461 To also be fair, Roughly a month ago, Babymetal announced a US tour in November and I believe most shows had sold out within days (Not counting resell tickets). I actually hadn't planned on getting tickets for them so soon as I have other concerts I needed to get tickets for, however, I assumed they would sell quick so jumped it and will be seeing them in Cincinnati. Paid I believe $70 per ticket and on resell, for the same GA spot, they were selling for $270 last I checked.

The 2 dancers sing harmonies and do some filler vocals. When you said "we got some dancing", they actually danced the guitar solo, now that is some mad skillz. The song was written with Dragon Force. They have about 60ish songs, so you have about 58 to go. None of this 1 or 2 shit.
