Learn how to use steam-bending to build a shark-fin ramp for a backyard mountain bike trail. The curved nature of this feature is going to really make this new trail pop.
As you know, one of my favorite parts of what I do is collecting wood from the site I’m actually working on. Here, you get to see how I process the locally sourced cedar from delimbing to stripping. (No trees were harmed during the duration of this project!) Creating curves with wood is no small feat- especially if you tend to wing it!

You’ll have to stick around to see just where an old propane turkey fryer base all comes into play in my latest lofty undertaking…
This project was a real challenge for me I must admit but I managed to get it done!

Welcome to the official CZcams Channel of Backyard Trail Builds - Detailed videos on Trail Building 🛠
Hi, my name is Seth Gebel and I grew up in Catawissa, Missouri just outside of St. Louis. I'm very fortunate to have a playground of woods to build whatever I see fit in because Missouri riders don’t get much feature time. I’d love to change that! Hopefully, someday we’ll be able to push a build-along that benefits the public here in St Louis for MTB skills progression. For now, though, I build every weekend and film for you all to watch!
➡️ On this channel, you'll find trail-building videos with music and step-by-step shots that keep you entertained and informed! Builds like road gaps, berms, jumps, drops, trail flow, skinnies, and many others!
Combining my love of mountain bikes, woodworking, and creating something from nothing, stick around to see just where my wild mind takes me next!
What started out as a passion project for building fun and exciting trails in my literal backyard, has grown into so much more. (Giant lizard bike jump, anyone?) Be sure to watch for builds, tips, and special offers each week.
If you love adventures and seeing wild and lofty ideas, come to life, subscribe to my channel for new videos every Sunday at 11 am Central! Hit that bell to never miss a video! 🔔

Hii! I was wondering if you still had the plans for the launch chair you made a while ago thanks!!
Bro, wear chaps when running that saw!!!!!!!!!!!
boil the wood entirely under hot water for better results...
All these trails (this and howler ) are stupidly close to where I live.
Great job!
This guy puts in so much more effort than any other MTB/TRAIL BUILDER guy on the internet. He deserves so much more credit for his work. Truly inspirational.
Seth (Berm Peak) is a pretty good trail builder, too. He's got some sweet features.
@@ullcringe2895 Both of them are Good!@
I hope to be on his level one day! He really is a machine! His wood work is incredible.
@@cutlaps same here
Hahaha thank you! But naw, I just made trail building my job so Ive got the time to put it in. Backyard building is a different animal, this stuff you’ve got to build premium or you look like a fool! Haha
man, your builds have gotten so good over the past couple years.
this is a top-tier feature that would fit in at any world-class bike park.
GORGEOUS feature Seth! I'd love to try it out some day!
Yes Eric, pls do!
Seeing a young man as yourself working hard restores a little faith that we’re not doomed in the future.
Job well done!! I love how bespoke and artsy everything is. This is ART and you're on your way to becoming the best trail artist in the world! Sounds like a skill that's in demand.
Well holy crap dude! Thank you so much. Way too nice of a complement. Im trying! Haha.
Its awesome that people are giving missouri some love and building trails. It seems like more stuff keeps popping up all the time! Keep up the creativity!
No shoes no worries
And a good safety squint!
The return of the GOAT! I’m going to have to get a log dolly. That looks so much easier. Also this feature was amazing, thank you for the inspiration Seth
The Collab we need!
@@bikesonline Haha I would be so keen. It would be amazing to learn from Seth.
Been looking forward to another video, appreciate all of your hard work you put into doing things, filming it, and sharing it with us!
Very proud of ya! From your back yard to professional trail builder... the things you've made have become so much more complex in scale and execution. Great stuff!
Man after watching all these trail builders on youtube, this was way more professionally done as I expected. Kudos!
Oh man, it's been amazing following you turning from "a little home hacker" into a freaking artist doing these massive pieces of art! 🎉
I have to give you props, the skill and motivation for these builds is rare these days. I can appreciate the way you go out of your way to keep it simple with minimalistic tools and damage to the environment. But if I may please put some shoes on man, injuries can happen in an instant. even a minimal tennis shoe can save a digit. Love your builds
That basketball twist made me smile, great build!!!
Absolutely incredible work! You’ve got a gift… your woodwork artistry is beautiful! And your edits are top notch also. Looking forward to the rest in this series 🤠
Professional log builder here, your "backyard" skills are great! Love watching these builds 🤘
you are not a trail builder....you're an artist
That berm is a work of art. You may have started a trend.
Only waited 5 months for another build video and it was worth the wait
Everytime you build a feature it’ll come out awesome!!! Wow!!!! Another great build.
I had the privilege to ride this feature this past weekend and I can say it is definitely top notch! Was happy to see this video and all the work that went into building it! Thank you for doing an awesome job and I can’t wait to see more!
Love watching you build wood features. You have really honed your wood working skills since the first features you built in your backyard. Can't wait for next week's build!
yt suggested this video to me because it thinks i like mtb, but i dont. but i am very interested in wood bending using steam. thanks for the video
I don’t ride bikes I’m not into carpentry but man this video is so cool ! Amazing what people choose to do with their time and this I absolutely respect
I've watched a lot of your videos. This is by far my favorite build and I can't get enough of these build vids.
They need to invent smell-o-vision for this type of content. I would so have just sat there and basked in that cedar smell. 🔥
I am so glad you are documenting a new build project. You are one of the best content creators on CZcams.
Awesome job Seth! The steam bending gives such a clean look!
That feature looks SO satisfying 😮
Even with the video I can hardly imagine how much work went into this ❤
I've missed your videos, glad your back.
Sweet! Trail building looks like such a cool job. I expect being away alot though to not be the greatest.
dude you make this building thing fun, i also love your ingenuity in all of it. Keep building bro
love the vids and you help me build my own trails keep it up
no fucking way he is back!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting!
Glad your back, I've missed your videos
Towed my buddy off of it for his first time yesterday! Such a fun line. The next two jumps are legit!
Saved this video for the weekend, well worth it! Stocked to hear more videos to come! Jump should be in a art gallery! 👌🤘
Realy liked the video and the build but man wear protective Shoes when you are using powertools and while working with heavy things. Stay safe and greetings from Germany
Finally. I missed your videos
I live here. Can't believe I missed this!
Finally, you're back!! 🤘
This is probably the coolest train feature I've seen yet. Great job!
I am absolutely blown away howuch work you are willing to put into each and every feature. You turn a MTB feature into a work of art. Keep it all up buddy. And keep the videos coming.
Awesome build, came out great. Can't wait to see what is next.👍😎
He’s a true craftsman. His work is incredible
Huge respect. I love the progression you’ve made over the last few years. The features you make now are insane. I love the creativity
I was out there for the grand opening of the new trails. Such a good time. Both of your new wood features out there are beautiful. It's crazy that this is happening in STEELVILLE!
Super impressed by your attitude and strategy with all these builds, never cutting any corners (figuratively) really inspiring.
Yesterday I was like "hmm he hasnt posted anything in a while..." and now I'm like Lessgoooooo
omg I've missed you ahhhhhhh welcome back. I just have one question: how do you get the excavator way back in the trails? I'm looking into building one but don't see how you get one out there without an access road and you can't just take it down the trail...
Bravo. Vous êtes un génie. Trop beau 🇫🇷
Some of the most interesting interntaning videos ever
You have the best job in the world ! Amazing build !!! :)
Rode this a few weeks back man. Well done!🙌🏼🤘🏼
I have been waiting so long. Finally! Thank you!
Wow what a feature ! Your work and craftsmanship is one of a kind.
Holy shit, that is a LOT of work. Awesome job man.
missed these videos!
man it always baffles me how you make these features 100% by hand and they always look so cool. not to mention it looks absolutely amazing to ride
Absolute art, as always! Thanks for all you do here in Missouri!
Love the videos! Great descriptions of building the features and the large amount of work each one takes!!
Love watching you create these masterpieces! So rad!
That looks so good. Your progression as a builder has been great to watch!
Your builds are top tier. I love the look of the stripped cedar. Another sick build Seth!🤙🏻
Easy to use and clean. Very convenient.
Awesome work!!!👍Can't wait for the rest of the series.
Looks so smooth great job!
always eager to see an upload from you, surprised this doesnt have 5x the views it does
I Absolutely love your videos. You’re so good at what you do 🤙 can’t wait to ride some of your trails
Lets go baby!! I've been waiting for you to post another one of your fantastic videos! they're so creative, and you put so much work into everything on there (great job) Thanks for showing up again! It's been too long. Good stuff!
So happy to see a building video I’ve really missed them
Incredible work.
That’s some lovely looking lumber. It must smell really nice when your cutting it. 😅❤
This is awesome. Couple years ago I made a three foot longboard for my son. Did steam bending to give it a cupped side to side.
Your wood work is amazing. And that cedar looks amazing
Awesome job Seth! Had a blast riding it!
Great video, had me hooked all the way through
I miss seeing you build something 😍😍 keep the good job my friend 💪 big hug from Portugal
you do them like a piece of art...amazing!!! Master Artist!
Seriously impressive feature mate! Awesome to see how far you've come
always looking forward on your builds
More videos! I love your stuff man, can't wait for next week
It looks amazing! Great work!!!
Awesome! Just like always, great work!
Amazing. That's beautiful!
Dude! You are a freaking legend! I really hope to build with you one day
This surpasses normal track building, this is literally art, the match of style with function along with the absurdly complex designe but still functional… it’s awesome
Man you said you were glad when the concrete and metal brackets were done... I'd take that over the rest of the assembly any day!
really awesome work, probably a bit late but seen guys put small cuts in the back of boards before steaming , helps get them to bend easier but still be strong enough ( don't have to go as deep ). great work 🙂
Damn the level of perfection you have is truly amazing to watch.
you could probably try and build a steam bin that could do multiple planks at once, or figure out a way to use some sort of jig to pre-bend the logs to the correct dimensions them bring them out to use.
This is so sick - top work!
Inspiring craftsmanship!
so excited on the video!
Uuuh video looks real great, nicce shots and Sound design!
That is way cool. Wish all that had been around when I was going to college in St. Louis. But that was long, long ago.
Sooo Good welcome back
Love this!! Big respect!! 👏👏👏🤜🤛
You sir are unbelievable!
