I did a test between Axe vs Sword PvP in Minecraft 1.18 and Axe PvP is a lot stronger than Swords in Shield PvP .
Capade tested this out in PvP Legacy - Hry
Try doing the same thing with enchantments like in netherite pot, you won't get the same results. The axe is 100% superior when it comes to early-game pvp, but the sword shines more during late game pvp
It’s all about being hit less. Yes on paper sword is better but with shield + sacred technique called runnin around it’s debatable.

it depends who you play against, really good sword players will smack any axe player in axe a sword kits. And I mostly play axe so I had to get better at sword to win those duels, but good vid.

yeah and if your really trying getting maxed takes like 6-12 hours or so so axes are useful up until the 2-3 hour mark where you get enchanted diamond and stuff

The only reason it's busted is because half the players nowadays don't realize that axes are better than swords in Axe/Shield PvP. Yeah, you can destroy people by running and critting when you're using an axe and they're using a sword, but the thing that makes it completely fair is that it takes one button (the hotkey to switch to your axe) to instantly start countering this technique with your own methods.

You can back up for like 3-4 seconds, run in to attack and then step back (sorta like baiting/dream stratting but less annoying) and then you can run in for a crit and then run. You can run into the engage a bit afterwards, and hit them with either a crit/normal hit. Once this first melee fight is over you can repeat with a bit of variation to keep it unpredictable.
And any player with half a brain cell would be able to counter your strategy after the first 2 repetitions, eventually they'll start predicting it. And if you suddenly stop, then they can just crit you normally and outdo you in dmg

With netherite armor, you take reduced kb and you can easier stay close to the enemy, allowing you to use the sword to its fullest extent

I honestly think that sword and axe are equally as good, it's just the person who plays it. The axe and shield combo is a classic masterpiece whereas the sword and gapple combo is comparatively bad..
So it just depends on who play's the combo properly.

In enchanted netherite pvp, sword will be meta since you can put fire aspect and have sweeping attack and players will most likely use totems instead of shield, but of course in diamond pvp, the axe comes out on top.
First point, true. 100% second is debatable. Of you know what your doing a sword is still op asf (ez clap to axe) but again only if you *know* how to *properly* use it.

@@emanballoutt It doesn't, though. The less protection you have the more damage matters which means players play more defensively and if your weapon does more overall damage than the other player, you can ALWAYS find a way to beat them using your weapon.
In OP, you'll have things like golden apples, totems, and ender pearls, which unlike Axe/Shield can all let you heal (which means dealing damage quicker is a more viable strategy since you can prevent them from healing easier) totems replace shields which destroys the axe's main advantage against a sword, and enderpearls prevent you from playing as defensively and running.

Fun fact: in 1.9 (yes exactly) shields used to block only 2/3 of the damage and you would take knockback from arrows and way more from explosions. So axe disabling wasn't that big of a deal. Also, full hunger regen was only slightly faster than 1.8. 1.11 changed both things.

I played 1.9 a lot back in the time(because my 8 year old PC only could handle that version in 14 fps max) and I don't remember that mechanic to be honest.

Honestly you probably want to get good with both weapons. As a sword main I've noticed that axe players are a lot less aggressive with their playstyle due to their slower attack speed and are harder to combo because they back up a lot after a hit. IMO both are good weapons you just need to know when and where to use them.

Combat snapshots added the reach attribute and tridents have 3.5 reach as opposed to normal vanilla reach of 3 blocks.
As a normal melee weapon I wouldn't call it viable in PvP in the 1.9+ style of combat, but when thrown yes I'd say it's useful.

imean, dream stratting does work very well when you don't have full prot 4 netherite armor and crystals and all those good stuff, but once you get stuff like pearls and anchors, swords start to show some better results
I kill people faster in neyh pot using sword but take less damage using axe. Best to use sword late game. Agdeed

depends on which one u like more, the best pvp players mostly use a sword, because people can combo and make the enemy cant hit him, axe probably easier to use, if ur good at sword pvp, if u 1v1 a axe pvp player, ur probably going to win

Although Swords are still highly situational both in PvP and PvE.
It's not very well balanced, Swords are like the CS2 Negev of Minecraft; it has some situations you can use it (like farms, maybe Netherite PvP) but an AK47 (Axe in this scenario) is 8/10 better in most situations.

It depends of the inventory, if you have litteraly a sword, axe and shield obviously the axe is better, but it you have (as every pvper in every smp) something of useful like pearls you can easily pearl on the enemy.
Everyone os going to have full netherite so sword, having more dps, does more damage in general.

I think the axe is very superior but the sword with the axe can be useful together if you know how and when to use them. Other than that I prefer using axes during pvp most of the time.
it all depends on prefrence really as a hybrid I can say I use both weapons dependning on the situation for example first hit is always a axe hit block with a shield break axe axes are also really good breaking combos but and also if somebody blocks my shield abilities with an axe however I do have to say that when I combo I use a sword and I also use a sword when fighting mobs

But i the axe you cannot put sweeping edge or fire aspect, no fire aspect means he doesn't need fire aspect pots and he can have other loot like more damage or speed pots

In a 1.9+ skywars game I used hit and run with iron axe and almost 5 hearted a diamond sword guy despite his huge armor advantage and his good sword pvp skills
In terms of raw DPS, swords will always be better, especially when enchants are involved. But the flexibility of the axe makes it far more effective for pvp

Actually the difference really picks up with enchants and strength. The damage boost is a fixed number same for both, and since sword is faster, pretty much means it makes the dps gap even larger

it is basically what u preffer cuz u can u both than is the reason they added axe for PVP to deel max damg and break sheilds
if the kit isnt that geared up just go for fast axe crit kills. but sword is overall more useful because of the fast attack speed that can get u an agile playstyle. if someone tries to axe crit and back up just time the hit while they mid air and u might get a counter combo too.
I feel like most the ppl in this video were really bad at pvp in general, in the end sword always does more damage bc if you get a lead crit with an axe then mid fight you switch to sword they won’t expect it. Plus diamond axes can only hit once per second dealing 2 hearts of damage to a full diamond (9 attack damage). But the sword hits 2 per second dealing 7 damage per hit (14 damage) sure you could back away, but if you time it just right you will trade hits with them with sword and 14 damage each exchange and they will get 9. I stand by my belief that sword is better than axe damage wise, but it’s mostly situational bc the main time I use axe it just to get rid of ppls shield. You also forgot to mention that swords get more enchantments for pvp: fire aspect, sweeping edge, knockback, etc
Not really. Most of people in this video ARE bad in PvP, but what Capade said is true. Axes are better than swords (shieldless and with shield), but only if a guy with an axe is atleast as half as experienced as a guy with a sword. The situation does carry on on higher PvP'ing levels. For an example, on FFA, given the same armor but different weapons, axe wins. With shield, axe wins (if a guy with an axe is atleast decent). The reason why you might think that "but if you time it just right you will trade hits with them with sword and 14 damage each exchange and they will get 9" is probably because people you fought are bad at PvP. Did you even pay attention to the video? If an axe guy and a sword guy are both experienced axe wins 100%. An Axe guy will not give you any chance to time it right, as it's not only "hit, run a little, hit, run a little", even though that is mostly it. Your solutions to destroying those filthy weak stupid axe players are only useful because of different skill groups. Most people I see in some more casual, non-pvp related servers are horrible at everything (like on manhunt server). I could join the arena there and destroy the entire server, and some people have ranks for their "skillness". Oh yeah, sure, if i can destroy the "netherite" rank guy, should i be given a rank like "enchanted netherite"? The point is that people are mostly bad everywhere you look, including PvPLegacy (but mostly because a lot of new people started playing PvP due to content creators such as clownpierce). So swording them is the easiest thing possible, as they have no idea what to do when you broke their shield and they were unable to break yours. I'm saying all of this from my experience, as my axe and sword skill are pretty much the same. If I were to fight against myself, but it's swordVSaxe a sword would have no chance. Like, what can sword do? Give you more reach? If I had speed I would've had a chance, but not without it. Some more chances if you have shield with "lead crit switch to sword" but i wouldn't just trade hits with someone as good as me as I know of this tactic. Once again, different skill groups. It's not that hard to counter it if you know about it.
A sword gets more enchantments, but it doesn't do anything in PvP. The only useful only-sword enchantments you named (that are useful in PvP, not PvE) is fire aspect and probably sweeping edge if you are fighting multiple opponents at once, although the damage is really weak, i'd much rather just crit them and take them out one by one.
And even like that, fire aspect easily countered by fire resistance potions.
Knockback is kind of a good thing, you can combo more easily with Knockback I (atleast you should, i don't know about that one), but if it's Sword Knockback I Versus Axe then it's giving more of a disadvantage to a sword rather to an axe as it's easier for an axe guy to do the "hit, run a little, hit" strategy.
You are right about an axe being situational. It's better in somewhat open spaces, better when fighting against someone with better gear than you (for an example, diamond vs iron armor), pretty good for countering someone better than you that has a sword.
But a sword is much better in close spaces where you cannot run anywhere, and in UHC? The strategy is a bit repetitive, but it works (its basically "break shield, put lava, sword combo"), and an axe is practically useless there because of all the cobwebs & lava buckets. Unless you're much more experienced with an axe than a guy with a sword in UHC you're not going to win that fight with an axe. Although it's not better than axe damage wise, obviously. More DPS if you're fighting against someone unskilled or in close spaces without being able to run anywhere, but not better damage.
Axe is just objectively better at PvP. Shields, PvP'ing is almost always somewhat open spaces so it's easy to do the "hit, run a little, hit", covering armor disadvantages.
Meanwhile a sword is only better than an axe at DPS (but only in close spaces without being able to run), and diamond sword is kind of better than a diamond axe if you're fighting against iron armor, which is basically what happens in almost all manhunts (and plus, some fights are close spaces with no options to run), and netherite. But let's be honest: no one does that, everyone does Crystal so sword is barely used.
I'd also like to say that I like sword more than shieldpvp. ShieldPvP is all about being a pussy, practically mirroring your opponents movements. Sure, there is some insane people with more agressive playstyles, but I've only seen a few in a month, and oh I've fought a lot this month and i've improved, but I'm still getting destroyed, as playing passively for me is impossible, I'm too impatient, hungry for a good fight. I would much rather go play sword than axe, atleast people aren't annoying there.
But all of this is basically me repeating the script of the entire video, just said differently. All the stuff that Capade said you completely ignored, including the fact that all that he said countered your arguments BEFORE you even commented.

I agree with your statement however it kinda depends on what situation you are in for example if you are in a 1v1 then the recommanded method is Axe pvp because you need more damage.
However on like a 2v2 or a 1v2 I recommand using a sword as you need to hit multiple people so you need a lower hit reg.
This is my opinion if you have something agaisnt this then it is alright i am always up to here other people's suggestions :D

I honestly changed my mind, axe and sword are as equally as good. Axe>sword on Shieldpvp, Sword>axe (in most cases) on shieldless... Axe>Sword in large open spaces, Axe>Sword in large open spaces shieldless, Sword>Axe in close quarters.
Literally just too much, but overall they're pretty equal. BUT, swords SHOULD deserve more attention. Most people don't even switch to their sword once, and some don't even craft it once.

@@YumiiOGT look there are 6 main gamemodes in 1.18: sword, axe, uhc, diamond pot, netherite pot, and crystal
4 gamemodes are sword based (sword pvp skill can be abused in cpvp). 1 of them everyone uses sword most the time (uhc). 1 gamemode where everyone uses axe 75% of the time and 25% of the time sword.
why does everybody use sword? because it has way faster attacks that would deal more hits (damage) than the slow axe.
also wanna say that in op duels lot of ppl try to axe crit and back away. but that can be easily countered by timing a kb hit while they are in air (u have more reach) and u might get a few more bonus combo hits on them too.
the sword just has faster attack speed which will give u more damage and this playstyle is agile.
axe isnt that bad of a weapon either. in sword gamemodes, if u have the time to fully recharge ur axe, go for an axe crit on first hit then swap back to sword. in axe gamemode, axe crit combo can be fun and deadly.
i would say swords are like 30% better than axes.

What I do is i just use the opposite weapon as my opponent, I will use the hit and run tactic for people playing sword, and when they switch, it get very aggressive with sword and crit them out.

That's true until it's a full netherite fight, cauz the other will take no kb and you too, so u'll not get interrupted by any axe hit in ur combo, and your hit will not deal kb to them if they run away, meaning they will not be able to use the kb they are taking to escape the combo by running away

For me I just wait for them to run and then attack but when they attack I just dodge and get three quick hits and then I do that over and over and then win.
Sword in axe PvP takes a lot of skill and understanding so I agree for beginners just use axe however the sword can absolutely destroy someone if you know how to use it I’m ok with it in axe PvP but someone who is actually cracked with it are so hard to take

I had to nerf the sword in my pvp kit because of sword sweats lol. Not that I *really* had to since I can destroy just about any tryhard with a bow (I can calculate shots accurately at a strafing player by aiming in one direction to throw them off before rapidly switching my aim to where I predict them to be, often somewhere centered on their general line of movement)
The dps of sword is mainly good in netherite to melt down their health
if everyone is just havin' fun with their maxed netherite just use sword combos an crit-chains but if your oponent have full diamond or iron you should use axe OR IN FEW WORDS it depends on a kit

It depends on the kits and the person your fighting
Backing away doesn't work if the person against you has good movement, he/she can give you 2 sweephits and you can't beat the damage
in my opinion, i personally think swords are better because i can constantly get crits on someone and i can somehow straif while getting crits, also speed potions are a thing
I think that it depends on the person, some people are just better with a sword or an axe, if someone is really good at both then an axe is only really better early game because it does a lot more damage than swords but if you get maxed out gear then sword would probably be better because an axe with sharpness 5 does 2 extra damage than a sword with sharpness 5 and that probably wont make too much of a difference so it would probably better to use a sword. Unless I am way off and a sharpness 5 netherite axe actually does a lot more damage than a sharpness 5 netherite sword in which case can someone let me know in the comments.
with pots a sharp 5 neth sword does 2 hearts while a sharp 5 axe does 2.5

More DPS only matters if youre getting all that DPS, if you get the other player in a combo you can win, if you cant the sword is useless. Usually I would pop shield + waste their crossbow then try to combo, if theyre smart and back off then forget about the sword.

I use sword and piercing crossbow + slowness arrows to counter axe mains so whenever they run I shoot them and I keep the pressure on them while also making them slower and making their hit-and-run tactics less efficient and more vulnerable to combos.
The problem with an axe is if a good player just backs up so you miss a hit, you just start getting hit in the back. Fight a good player, no shield, dia armor or better, they use sword and u use axe and win, and their will be proof for your argument.
and by good players, not fighting people with thousands of hours and 20% winrate but people known in the community with actual feats and fair winrates.
But the thing is if they both start backing up the axe does more damage than a sword so the one with a sword will most likely die

Actualy in axe pvp sword helps to bcs my strateg is to hit players with crit than he probaly hits me but it doesnt matter i break his shield and do hit with sword sometimes i managed do 3 combos but mostly 2 so than his low on health and ez last crit with axe or just a few spam hits

And the fact that a wooden axe has the same damage as a diamond sword, you can basically beat a kid with a diamond sword using a wooden axe
Diamond sword dps is way higher because of sweeping speed. Also - it's multi-targetable. In usual pvp Sword is superior, however in some odd cases axe is getting it's place with high Once time damage. Honestly - it's good for finishers.

Honestly I agree, not only is axe a weapon to rival any other, but, it can also break shields which sword cannot. To put the nail in the coffin any player used to using totems and swords stand no chance against the absolute wombo combo of the shield and axe and their hits just bounce off of the shield. I think sword is better for one reason .. I play minecraft on the iPad where a diamond axe does less damage a hit than a sword and there is no attack cooldown
FACTS. Using this strat against anyone who can't sword combo is basically an instant win. Thought this for a while.

Another reason axe is better is because the sytstem for damgeing someone with armor part of it is for each full heat of dmg it removesn 1 armor point equal to 4% dmg reduction axes do more damge and a crit is 50% so you can remove 28% armor without enchants

Today I was playing PvP legacy, I was fighting someone with a sword and they were using a sword as well. It was a fair fight, until they pulled out their axe. After they did that, it wasn’t even a fair fight, I destroyed them

swords better at endgame cpvp because of knockback, also you can put fire aspect on them, and looting, but in player combat axe is the right choice (if no cpvp) also depends on version so im CURIOUS ABOUT 1 19 (AXES GOT HARD NERF -0.5reach)

Basically with the sword you can’t give the axe any personal space, if you back off you’re dead, if you can’t aim for combos you’re dead.
