I had been diagnosed with complex post traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and several other comorbid disorders. I took the Authoring program, and now I'm in 3rd year of a university degree with a 3.96 GPA and a bright future ahead of me (I'm 62 years old). I made a conscious decision to visualize a positive outcome, and moved forward "as if" it were true. Through my degree, my goal is to counsel families dealing with generational narcissism, and I'm loving my life.

The year of 2020 was an absolutely heartbreaking year for me. Lost people, failed in my dreams, health was declining. I was in a terrible place. I sought out help and came across Jordan Peterson's lectures, interviews, and podcasts he has done. The way he articulates his thoughts not only helped me put my life on track, but saved me from taking my life.
Thank you Mr.Peterson, I can not thank you enough. You are a man with a genuine interest to help people.

Perhaps you were being facetious. If not...start caring for yourself. Eat right. Get sunshine for 15 minutes a day or increase your intake of vitamin D (egg yolks, salmon, red meat, fortified cereals). Exercise. Be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself. Address trauma you may have suffered. If someone told you you were stupid or a failure, it was said to manipulate you or to satisfy their own aggression. Remember all the celebrities like Harrison Ford who were told they would never succeed but they did because they refused to buy into another person's opinion. Act like you matter because you do.

@@kathiegifford5112 it should be pointed out that someone can be doing all these things and still lack motivation/purpose. It’s possible to be eating well and exercising, no trauma etc and still not have motivation. Doing everything you can (which ironically takes commitment and motivation itself) to improve sometimes doesn’t get at the root of your suffering. Don’t blame yourself for failing. Continue trying. Even if you fail ultimately, it’s better to fail trying then to not try at all and fail anyway. (This is the stupid shit we tell ourselves to justify our existence. We’re programmed by the forces of biology to fight for a living. Most of us. Sometimes this circuitry goes awry and one cannot feel purpose anymore. Others that have “functioning” circuitry don’t understand this. They think their inner world reflects all of reality, all minds must function the way theirs does. This is a stupid presumption. No one has the same talents. Not everyone looks the same. Not everyone is the exact same height. Why the he’ll would you expect everyone to share the same inner lives? Not everyone responds to stimulus in the same way. Sometimes people are unlucky. Bad genes combined with bad environment can totally destroy a person. Sometimes how you feel isn’t under your control. You’re lucky if you can feel happy, or love yourself. Not everyone can. If you insist they can and they are just “choosing not to” then you are oblivious to the reality that surrounds you. Free will isn’t a thing. We are a biological system. The mind reflects the state of the brain. The brain can malfunction just like any other organ.) I don’t know why I typed all this out but I’ll post it anyway.

According to my fiance, I still don't literally stand up perfectly straight, but she said that my overall posture has greatly improved. So literally, I'm standing up straighter then I used to. On the more abstract end, I stand up for my truth with a lot more ferocity and have the courage to not fall in line with what I don't believe to be true and what others want at the expense of myself. Part of standing up straight with your shoulders back, in my opinion, includes telling the truth. It isn't easy, and I screw up a lot. But I screw up honestly and with the best in mind. Overall, it's helped shape me more into what I am becoming. What I am becoming, continually, is the thing that is constantly shedding skin and changing into the best version of myself. Bare in mind, that's always changing. And life is hard. But it's worth it.

I have been reading self-help books for over 40 years now, but not once did I ever read about this idea of first setting your personal goals and then seeing if your company's goals aligns with where you want to be. That is a staggering change in optics for most of us. Why do I say this? Because - to my knowledge - it has never been explicitly stated before. If, say, you join the army or law firm or any other organization, one's typical long term goal is to rise as high as one can within the organization. It's a given. It's what culture ingrains in us, i.e., "careerism." However, there is something worth even more than rising within an organization or a company, i.e., making sure that one's own goals or purpose is kept firmly in first place. Life shouldn't work any other way. And, the truth is that life truly doesn't work well - either for the organization or the individual - when that perspective is not acknowledged, respected and cultivated. Yes, your heard me right..."cultivated."

  • @justmehere_
    @justmehere_ Před 3 lety +1

2:27 yes!!! As a person who loves stories, experiencing and telling them, I believe this is so true. Life is very much like a personal story, lots of story telling elements can be analogous with life as well.
If you think of all the common building blocks of a good story like good characters and character development, relationships, conflicts and resolutions, the big message or main idea the story tries to tell, the fact that it all has to end, etc. You can kind of see how some of them connect with aspects of life and how the ways these parts are set up can determine a good or bad ending.
Also I like video games like almost any other person, and I like story based ones the most, (I usually don't enjoy playing other types of games unless its multiplayer and I can play with friends) and there's even stuff about those kinds of games, like farming for loot and xp that can be analogous to working or schooling in life, both last long and are quite boring but the whole point of doing them is to try and get something good for yourself, in a game that could be some item or cosmetic even that you like or that will help you progress in the story, and in life that is trying to reach some goal you've set, like what you want to do for other ppl or a community or for yourself. I guess it is probably dumb and pretty nerdy to make that analogy, but it does help me think of what I'm doing any boring or strenuous work for, there's some kind of goal that it should be helping me reach or else what's the point?
I ranted a lil too much I think, idk I just wanted to point out how I love and agree with that analogy JP made, about life being a personal story and how it correlates to all kinds of smaller stories we love telling, fictional and nonfictional.

Why did you dislike him in the first place? (Serious question)

D.D D.D I was expecting this question frankly. Well, a few things. I found him combative and kind of a wind bag to be totally blunt. As a step father of girls, his position on feminism seemed very harsh (until you read between the interviewers attacks and subsequent defence). So I suppose for the most part I just felt like he spoke too much to say too little. But I have watched many videos and given him a chance - I have changed my stance mainly due to these types of talks. Being said, I still tend to stay away from the feminism (or perceived anti feminist) views/discussions.

Stephan Bernard I did, thx. I don’t think he is intentionally combative. But he’s been asked to perpetually explain, repeatedly, his position on many issues. That gets exhausting, annoying & frustrating lol

I've just discovered your channel. I like Jordan Peterson speaches and interviews with him and I really appreciate that you are not spoiling his speach with music like many other channels. Their music... on background or rather sometimes even on foreground .... is sinking the content - I feel like it tries to stop my thinking and investigating my feelings and just instill that sheepish pathetic feeling, using clickbait titles...
Thank you for not using that cheap manipulative way, thank you for meaningful selection of good content. Thang you for letting us really digest his words and thoughts , not only gobble and fart afterwords.
    I'm subscribing.

Jordan Peterson has one main flaw: He knows and understands SO MUCH that he cannot teach it fast enough for the rest of us. He's constrained by the fact that we have to use this clunky thing called speech to convey knowledge. If he could simply think things and the people near him would just get it, it would be so much better.

Well that’s the problem with most professors. They know staff yet they don’t know how to articulate it well. And then they just make a face that they don’t care.
Peterson is great because he taught himself to digest info and spread it to people

As with many things, it's un-PC, but Jocko Willink and Jordan Peterson are two real men: decent, caring, intelligent and fearless. Dr Peterson is talking what should be common sense, but it's not very common, as they say. It should be obvious to leaders and managers that if you want to motivate people, you have to tell them exactly how what they're doing will help them and other people. It's like if you don't understand that, you must never have had a good conversation with a human being.

As an entrepreneur, I speak to alot of people. I am surprised to see how many people have not really sat down to look at why they are doing what they are doing. Also found most are doing things for the wrong reasons. Time is your #1 commodity. Unfortunately money is #2. Find what you can do to make the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. Then you can live like most can't. ;) This is right mindset.

I admire your persistence in the scientific search for answers and how to apply these to the meaning of life and behavioral issues and you drive to help people. I feel sorry for you for trying to understand so many things. I believe we are all wired for happiness (quote from bishop Barron). It is in giving that we approach our innate wired patterns and attain happiness.
The problem is that in the taking mode in which most of us live we short the wiring. Put yourself in God's hands and pursue you interests, ask (pray) for his guidance and wisdom. You have to ask in order to receive. I see you suffer in trying to understand stuff. One thing I learned from my father is that you can only do the best you can with you God given capacity. If you did your best, you can sleep in peace and you can be happy knowing that you did your best, and if you realize you could have done better, do it next time. God bless you.

The part about motivation shocks me. Our society is so driven to perform bigger better stronger. Get out of university with 21/23 in europe, get higher stocks, produce more, get everything online right now. But yet we don't focus on building up our people. Show young people why Education matters, why sport matters, why clubs/associstions matter. If you associate our society with a person, i think you would see someone running around quite nervously, trying to get every thing done at once for high volume. Not someone who carefully builds up a strong foundation. Not someone who is interessted in high quality.
