- Hi there everyone!
Hope you and your fish are all faring well and have not eaten too much candy over the Halloween weekend đ
This video explains the various compatible fish tank mates based off my experience and what I have housed with my Rams currently.
There are many more options so this is not the most extensive list otherwise I would have had to upload an hour long video. But all in all, this video creates a canvas so you can start imagining some good candidates to add to your setups.
Please like and comment and donât forget to subscribe!
Have a great rest of your weekend,
Jus
As a man who teaches presentation skills at USC, I advise you to never start a video with an apology unless youâve done something truly worthy of an apology. Thanks for the info on ram tank mates.
Hahaha that's awesome! I will definitely follow that advice next time đ
Sir your education takes first priority. We all love & support you so no worries mate if you're not posting videos as before... . All one asks is for you to do your best & get your degree qualifications etc... . Ive a small request if you can share links of the lights & reverse Osmosis system both you & Nick utilizes in fishroom..... plecos seems camera shy but the cory are divas....lol..
Beautiful fishes Sir. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the great work both in fishes & uni....cheers
Thanks so much!!! I will have to look into doing something like that. It may be worth requesting this to Nick himself as I am no longer wanting to do collabs with him. I am glad you like some of the choices I have used in my setups. Those Cory cats can be something else đđđ
@@JustinsFishRoom
I'm sorry to learn that's the case. I've tried by asking in comments but he's so busy i don't get responses... i don't know if you could try asking him for info and sharing it in another video or even reply here?
No sorry. I would give you all that info if I could. I have not talked to him for quite a while now so I would just ask a fishtuber who will actually reply đđ
@@JustinsFishRoom
Ok Thank you Sir for sharing.
Just a reminder i would like to see a video on the brineshrimp that you keep in the fridge for later feeding. That's when you get time....
Best of luck in your studies..
Loving the look of that community tank, the tannin water makes it look more natural. I need to get some plecos or corys, ive never kept them. Nice update and im glad your fish look like they are doing great! Even if they are being ignored thanks to your Uni.
Hahaha yes, thank you Bobby đ Definitely look into some Cories especially if you have fine substrates đđ
Another great video. I see a bright future for you.đ„° Rams are my favorite fish. I can only get German Blues, & Bolivian where I live, Cary, North Carolina.
Hi there Cathy! Thanks again for such an awesome comment - you make me smile đ All I can say is make do with what you have there. Message me on any of y platforms if you want to talk fish or if you need second opinions etc.
I was looking forward to seeing your video today but don't worry about doing them if you're too busy we completely understand we've all been there. I'm amazed that you're able to do both actually. Video is awesome thank you for all the info
Thanks so much for such a positive comment! It is the support and kindness from members like you that make it all worth while. I really appreciate it and glad you enjoyed this videođ
13:22 beautiful angel fish â„ïžđ great vid Justin đ by the way I think the tannins look great! âșïž looking forward to the next video!
Great to hear that you like the tannins. I think it gives a really cool look to the setups and obviously more natural. Appreciate the kind commentđđ
Well balanced lifestyle best of luck with your studies. The Rams look amazing.
Great video. Glad you did a community tank topic. Iâm not a fish breeder but still enjoy your channel. Good luck with your finals! Mike, Philadelphia USA
Hi Mike! Thank you so much for leaving a commentđ Hope you have a great day/evening and I am very pleased you liked this videođ
Hey Justin, another amazing video of course, but I came across one of your pairs on a website and Im moving to QLD Australia this December and the first stocking Im gonna do after my tanks are set up is getting one of your Blue ram pairs đ€Łđ€Ł remember your future and career including uni is more important then making a couple more videos for us and getting burnt out lol
u must feel real good that your rams are really starting to get out theređđđ
I think UNI is what will be responsible for burning out :D Fish are his escape from it haha.
@@Bobby11 well said haha

My bn plecos are breeding me fishroom out of house and home!! 4 generation in 6 weeks in a 20 gallon long hahaha!!ive set up a few new tanks I have many plecos to move. Great to see your latest video mate, Iâm a bit late to the party but I try to watch everyoneđđđ»
Sounds like an awesome problem to have, my friendđ
I just found your channel, loved the video, you have a new subscriber here đ, I absolutely love rams, I finally bit the bullet and bought some today to add to my 4ft tank, funnily enough I also bought a couple of bristle nose plecos, and salt and pepper Cory's, I already had albino Cory's in the tank, with endlers, Siamese algae eaters, kuhli loach, and a whole bunch of Malaysian trumpet snails, my tank is also very heavily planted with water spriteâ€
I absolutely love the natural look of your tanks, it's how I like to keep mine tooâ€â€â€
thank you so much for sharing your experience about tank mates with gbrs,, also for discussing about your discus.. really appreciate it..... kudos for your efforts!!!
Thank you so much! I thought I would definitely get some footage of the discus for you and the other keen discus keepers in this communityđđ
@@JustinsFishRoomthank you friend for the reply.. regarding the use of indian almond leaves, based on your personal experience, does it really benefit your discus as many vloggers claim no significant impact on their own... Cheers
I think it possibly does have some sort of benefit to discus and other fish due to the compounds secreted by the leaf. Is the benefit significant? I would say probably notđ
@@JustinsFishRoom thanks a lot for your opinion.. it is well valued..
Great advice mate. Love the l201's would love some of them.
I made sure to get some footage of them for you Steveđđ
Great video. No need to apologize for not uploading, school and rest are far more important than videos.
Thanks Darryl! The community here is definitely motivating me to get a balance going.
Hi Justin! Iâm really enjoying this video and thank you for fulfilling my request lol! Your fish are amazing and these are some solid choices! Uni is important and we can wait 2-4 weeks for an upload from you and we will still be there and Iâve your vids. I was wondering what you feed your bristlenose? My ones that I won are still pretty small. Thanks for sharing and going to the effort of making the video, and keep up with the amazing work Justin! I hope uni will he stress free very soon... đđđđ đ
Hahaha thanks Laz!! Yes Uni is becoming very intense lately but luckily I have the fish to keep me sane-ishâșïž I actually donât feed mine. They just eat the left over ram food. Try the fish food recipe that I did a video on a little while back. They go crazy for it!!!
If you're going to keep rams, the addition of tannens, to your water, is almost a necessity. I have fairly hard water, where I live, but the addition of boiled oak leaves, to the tank, has made all the difference. That, and the water temperature is kept at, or around, 82F.
I keep my rams with an electric blue acara, a rainbow cichlid, and my gourami. There is absolutely zero tension in the tank, and all of my fish get along splendidly.
Nice work. Thanks for taking the time to do a comprehensive list and for sharing your tanks.
My pleasure! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment đđ
Everything is looking so awesome and a great video! I feel you on the university work, thinks have been crazy busy so no worries! Gotta focus on priorities man.
Yeah, Iâm sure you know the intensity of end of sem assessment!!! Hope you and your fish are faring wellđđ
I was thinking about getting some panda corys for my black ram tank to help stir the sand up! Thanks for helping in solidifying that choice!
Yeah, they are a great option! You saw the albino Cories getting to work in this video and they keep the sand sparkling white
Nice one boet! Well done fitting in a video when youâre so busy studying. Regarding fish choice, I like what you recommend, but I can also get highly recommend pencil fish - I guess theyâre similar to small tetras đ Keep up the good work đđ»
I agree!!! Love those coral pencil fish. They are such a unique specimen to add to a community setup.
Great vid again! Nice set ups you got there. Cheers man.
Thanks man! Really appreciate it! Hope you and your fish are going wellđ
Awesome video Justin , all your tanks are looking absolutely amazing , love the tanning's and your fish look absolutely stunning. Good luck with uni!!! I've just finished setting up the 260ltr ram aquarium . Keep up the good work đ btw I've purchased 4 Gold Rams the other week
Thatâs awesome! They are going to look so good đ I appreciate the awesome feedback about the tannin tanks and I am glad you like them đ
I just got my 2 pairs for albino cory and canât deny how cute they are.
Just stumbled cross this video, thank you for the information! đ
No worries! Thank you for watching!!
This an old ish video, but would love to know your thoughts. I am about to get an aquarium, been a good 5yrs since I had one (I do have a small deck pond with a healthy self sustaining/breeding pop of white clouds haha). Anyway, want a 4foot. My stocking plan (of course getting it established) is, 1-2 pairs of GBRs/Dark night rams, 10 pacific blue eyes, maybe a few L397s or some pretty L number that can handle the heat, and I am thinking about getting a trio of fancy guppies, like blue metal lace snake skins to see if I can breed them true just naturally in the community tank. it will be a planted tank. do you think this is a good combo of fish. I am hoping to get some spontaneous breeding from some of the fish :)
I was planning something sort of similar. 4 foot tank, Bolivian ram, some dwarf gouramis and a bunch of schooling tetras/rasboras, and some Cory's and a bristlenose. I don't really recognize some of the slang you used for species, but maybe I'll look into some of those as well!
Hi, that is awesome video. can you please teach me how to know male or female black ram?
I like Threadfin rainbows for dither fish, rams ignore them and vice a versa đ
Me too!!! A very beautiful ornamental fishđ
FYI Cabomba and Ambulia are 2 different plants that just look the same, might be related thought. Just saying.
Thanks for the input! I will have to learn how to tell the differenceđđ
@@JustinsFishRoom I believe that it's very subtle.
Interesting you mentioned Panda Cory. I was told they were not suited for a ram tank as they donât like the higher temps! For that reason I went Sterbai đ
Another great video đ Love the content
Thank you đđŒđ
Love the community tanks! Ottos like to be in larger groups, might need a few more in there! In my 34 gal i have 6 and wish i had space for more!
Thanks for the tip Madison! I will have to think about getting some more in the near future
Great ideas for tank mates! I have panda corys, otocinclus, ember tetras and cpds with my rams. Everyone knows their place, but the corys do like to get right in front of the rams once in a while when feeding and wiggle their little butts in front of their face đ
Haha yes, the Cories definitely have no boundaries but they are very loved throughout our hobbyđđ
Would temps of 82-84 degrees have any ill effects on Cory catfish? Could I do a school of Harlequin Rasboras?
do you keep your GBR water temp higher around 82-84F? I assumed corys would think that's a litle too warm but I know they have a pretty wide range of water temp but the plecos I'm surprised are comfortable at that warmer temp.
Love sterbais. Beautiful strong and social.
Me too!! I would definitely get them in a bigger setup đđ
how about soak the almond leaves first to help rid some of the tannins then put them in your tank for the same look of leaf litter but 1/2 less tannin color
Thatâs a great suggestion đđ
Do you think I could keep a male and female ram in a fluval flex 15 gallon
I'm sure that is fine as long as there is a lot of plants and drift wood and you plan on keeping the water quality pristine:)
Wow look at how black that one ram was. I've been looking for a solid black one.
They are beautiful đ€©
Corys love 64 - 70F, and Rams 80 - 89F.. Not such a good match. They will live together, but conditions are not perfect for both :/
Hi Justin, I'm Eros from Northern Italy. I love Ramirezi very much, your videos are very interesting and you are very nice (simpatico), I subscribed to your channel.
Good luck for the university! I finished university in 1998 but the passion for fish and tank is never over and I hope it is the same for you. Ciao
Hi there Eros! I really like your nameđ WELCOME to the JFR community!!! I hope you find this community helpful and overall very positive.
The passion for fish will always be with me and I will find every excuse at every stage in my life to keep and breed themđđ
I would love to breed the L134 Leopard frog plecos, they are a bucket list fish for me.
Oooh that sounds AMAZING! That is definitely on my bucket list toođ
Justin's Fishroom I forgot to mention, Iâve set up 2 of my 8 new tanks, and Iâm going to try to breed gbrs , and Iâm gonna try the apistos again! The agassizii double reds. They did spawn for me but the eggs never hatched and they ate them. Later we had a power outage and I lost the trio. But if itâs one thing about breeding fish, never give up never surrender!đđđ»
That is such a great attitude to have and is so necessary in this hobby!!! Thanks for the update and looking forward to seeing how you go with breeding in the near future
Justin thanks so much!! Your videos are amazing and i really appreciate them! If i have a breeding pair will the plecos eat the eggs? Thank you and take care!!
Hi there Janelle! I personally havenât seen my plecos eat ram eggs. I believe this is partly because the ram pairs are very aggressive when they are in protective mode, so not many fish manage to get to the eggs. I would just go off the recommendation of 1-2 BNs in a 3 ft with Ramsđđ
Do Bolivian Rams live with guppies peacefully???
Hello sir! I have some random questions; is there any chance of some ram fry surviving in a community tank? I have a mated pair in with panda garra and Pacific Blue eyes (I would recommend them as tank mates, I keep the rams at 82 which the pseudomugil seem fine with). Heavily planted, but still...
Hi! This is very subjective due to many factors that could have an impact on the fry. If you have sponge filters, this gets rid of the potential for fry to be sucked up. If you have a very heavily planted tank, this would increase odds of survival of the fry. If your tank is large and you can feed the fry sufficiently, then this would also allow the fry to survive long term. But in saying this, it is very unlikely that with other fish in the tank, that there will be any fry who make it. This is just my own opinion based on my experiences. There may be someone out there who has achieved thisđđ
What size tank do you have these in? Is there any aggression from your pair to the RainbowFish?
How many Rams would you recommend for a 36 gallom bow front community tank?
Awesome vid! Would love some advice. I just recently added fish to my 75L (well planted). I got 2 panda Coryâs, 1 bristle nose pleco and 8 rummy nose. Would 1/2 Germans be okay for a nice feature fish in this aquarium or will that be too much when everything is grown fully. Thanks for any advice!
No, you can definitely add a ram or two in there as long as you have heaps of plants and a lot of cover
@@JustinsFishRoom awesome!! Thanks for the reply đ
The leaves are great but expensive is there anything else you could recommend any other way to get tannins other then leaves and bkg ?
will they do good in a serpae tetra commmunity?
Hey thanks for the video! How big is that tank?
Hi there Henry! Which tank are you referring to my friend?đ
@@JustinsFishRoom your first tank you showed in your video? I love how healthy and active your fish look!
Those smaller tanks are just standard 2 ft aquariums but they get very frequent water changes đđ
I'm looking I'm looking for a certain pair of fish they're called a queen this service apps they're from I believe Venezuela that area does anybody have any information on this this I've had the pair and they bred for me but I didn't get farther than that it was in this early 80s in the Bay area but now I don't do fish anymore but I would just love to see a video of a pair of Queen pronounced acquaintance service apps they don't have neck so they look kind of round-headed and they don't really have a neck they remind you of a ram but they're cut they're a little larger and not quite so particular as to water what happened to that species of fish
Justin do you have any recommendations for long fin German blue rams on line?
Unfortunately I donât know of anyone breeding them successfully. We will be trying our hand at improving their line though đ
What temperature do you keep Rams and Coryâs at?
Can all of these other fish thrive at the higher temperatures that the German blue rams enjoy? I thought most aquarium fish prefer 25-26 degrees while rams like 30 degrees.
All the fish I keep and breed thrive at higher temperatures đđ You can keep rams at 27°C if you are that concerned đ
Will the rams hurt my nerite snails?
How many rams can fit in a 20 g long ? Also would they be ok with a dwarf gourami?
I would put one max
I just got 4 juvenile rams/ 2 balloon belly, 2 German black. Is that too many for a 14g? If not can I add 8 ember or rummynose tetras?
That's too many rams in a 14g. I would say 1 per 10 gallon.
The bigger the tank the better for a few pairs together:)
Were you breeding rams with the Cory's in there? I have a pair of rams with 4 Cory's and a bristlenose. It's been 6 months and they will not mate, mate
Yes, they breed well with the cories in my experience. Just give them time
@@JustinsFishRoom what did you have the temp at with the rams and Cory's?
27-28°C
how many liters do 3 discus need
I would say at least a 55 gallon tank can house 3 discus but thatâs the least. I would try as hard as you can to get a well established 4 foot aquarium for discus. Just make sure you get them from a reputable source.
@@JustinsFishRoom thanks
Clown fish
Just adding my experiences but I'm not professional.... minimum is ten gallons per fish if they are juvie or still growing. Discus fishes are schooling fishes and ideally should be kept in groups of 6 or more.. keeping less will have bullying & fighting etc... remember to purchase from reputable breeders & quarantine them prior to adding to main tank
I couldnât agree more with this comment. Definitely a lot of great points made heređđ
@@JustinsFishRoom
Thank you Justin Sir. Appreciated the kind remarks...
How bad is the aggression with all those rams in one tank ?
No aggression at allđ They all get a long very well and are more peaceful than any other fish I have keptđ Have a great day!!!
Can i put angelfish with rams?
Yes, you definitely can đđ
Hey Justin where are you located thanks
Brissy đđ
how many liters do one angel fish need
20 gallons per angelfish seems to be enough to prevent overcrowding of these somewhat aggressive cichlids
@@JustinsFishRoom thanks
All good đ
I will NEVER buy another Bristlenose Pleco ever again! I had a couple of juveniles and couldn't believe the poop they produced. Massive amounts.
Hi there Michael! Yes, they produce a tonne of poop. It is a bit of a give and take situation with them and you definitely have to consider doing a lot of water changes if you want to keep them.
U re so cute đ
