I forgot to mention. Before you start grinding and sanding anywhere on the outside of a boat remember to close all windows, doors, vents etc. Or it will get really dirty inside! 😉
Love the bird sounds.
Phil, I think you are a very industrious young man. Good job on the paint.
Good job, Phil. You might consider wearing a dust mask when you're grinding, it'll help keep the worst of the dust out of you.
Nice haircut. looks good. Cheers
Thank you kindly
@NarrowboatJourneys did you sell your hair, if you had it cut professionally I bet they did. And made a few hundred dollars for it.
Oh dear, this fills me with dread, starting same job on my daughters widebeam next week.... good luck with yours.
I forgot to mention. Before you start grinding and sanding anywhere on the outside of a boat remember to close all windows, doors, vents etc. Or it will get really dirty inside! Don't bother if it's too hot. Good luck.
Nice work Phil😉It really couldn’t be a proper paint job without puss paw print “signature” 😂
Luckily it was just his feet that turned red!
first class
Great to see looking so well. I also being very busy the past year. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

It’s looks so good Phil, well done on all your hard work! ☺️
Thanks so much! 😊
good vid on channel thanks lee
Was so good to see you...your mooring spot was lovely...So did Midge Cat get his nails done? lol
The roof looks lovely! what a tidy painter you are 😂..
So not sure of the time line . ? Is the roof done now?..you will have to after photos. so we can marvel at your artistic talents at rust prevention...😊
Thanks Phil..always good to see you...😊
Thank you. I'm only half way through painting the roof. The whole boat is rusty and needs doing...
@NarrowboatJourneys well just do it as you can..everything is so costly today....Even our pet food over here..one day animals will only be for the wealthy..sadly..you and your boys take care..😊
You did a good job Phil, in difficult conditions. Can you see Midge's paw prints?!
I painted over them again next day.
Wow Phil. That is the shortest I have seen your hair. That roof is lots of work.
It's even shorter now. I buzzed it down to 9mm just the other day! 🤣
Good going there Phil, Nice to see you once again. All the best my friend
Thanks, you too.
Well done Phil. Looks really good and fresh. You must be feeling pleased. Thank you for showing us how it is to be done.
Thank you. The work never ends unfortunately.
Hey Phil. I donated some funds for the roof painting. Always enjoy your videos.
Awesome, thank you!
Not easy in that heat! It is looking good enough 😊😎
I almost wanted to cry that you couldn't afford to buy another pot of rust converter! It would have made sense to have another on hand, before you started the project. I am happy to buy your next pot, if things are that bad.
Well done. Phil. All. The. Best
It's looking great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Good job
Thanks
All the best Phil, looking like you have made some good progress.
Thanks 👍
You’ve inspired me to tackle my own roof now! I never feel confident with DIY but this makes me feel hopeful!
The ideal weather is warm, dry, cloudy, and low winds. Go for it.
They looks a great job 👏👏👏❤️
Thank you! 🤗
looks so much better ... if your ever passing gayton i have tons of boat paint you can have as will be a shame to chuck it away...
Thank you.
Hope your close enough to get the paint that was offered. All ways good to get to save money when you can.
You are putting me to shame sir!! I pained half my roof last year, keep looking at the other half with dread….. it’s a bothy in the North of Scotland with a corrugated iron roof…. Nightmare!! Love your style of videos the cats and your music, all the best Phil!!
Thank you. I'm only half way through this job...
If the rust treater is steaming, I hope you're not breathing it in. I don't imagine it good for you. It's looking good, and it looks protected.
It was water based, my main concern was that it was drying before it had time to convert the rust. That's mainly why I put a coat of red oxide over it.
You dont need to use rust treatments on steelwork that has been wire brushed clean of rust. If there is no rust you dont need it. The oxides in primers need to be I contact with the bare steel to have any anitcorrosive effect.
It is good that the water in the canal is not salty. 😉
How thick is the metal of a narrow boat? The bottom is thicker than the roof?
Yes the bottom is always thicker than the roof.
You look GREAT. NICE WORK. Happy to have helped.
Thanks again Curt.
@@NarrowboatJourneys Truly my honor.
One bit at a time sir… looks good.. I’ve got to paint the entire outside of my boat very soon.. at the moment it looks like it’s got chicken pox as more and more dots are spot ground and primed every year…
The novelty of boat painting rapidly wears off after the third or fourth repaint.
A great DIY roof vlog Phil....did you leave Midges paw prints for posterity on the roof ? I hope it came off the paws ok....!! Thanks for sharing, a great positive vlog to watch. X
Thank you. I painted over his paw prints the next day.
Any improvement is good, how often do you black your boat?
Boat time!! Nothing happens quickly. You were sanding the roof last year in June when I passed you at the top of Hillmorton. At least you're getting on with it, I'm putting all my effort into excuses for not sorting the rust on ours.
A leaking vent probably back then?
poor solar panels they will need a good clean
They certainly did need a clean after that.
Never seen reference to hull being shot blasted and epoxied; surely overdue. Would have been much better to take all the paint off but understand the financial constraints you must be under. Good decision on the haircut in my book and may consequentially increase your subscription base.
Hope you managed to clean the paint off Midge's feet before he/she licked it off....Anything like that is damaging to animals Kidneys unfortunately 😒
He jumped off onto the dusty towpath. The only thing that would clean his feet would be white spirit which would be just as bad. I let him be. He's fine, it wasn't too bad.
good vid on channel thanks lee
