As a driver of over 25 years. If I'm delivering to farms etc. I ring the farmer. He knows the way in.
You’d think that wouldn’t you, but they lie, they just want their stuff and absolutely couldn’t care how you get in or out, it’s the nature of the beast, most of these lanes weren’t made for hgvs it’s just the way it is
@Wayne Shone well in my experience farmer's etc. Have always been the source of knowledge. After all they pull trailers around their farms. Its not in their interest to give you bad information. Even you said they want their stuff. Personally I found if you talk to them sensibley. They treat you the same. I'd lose your attitude. Might find the job is so much easier.
And their answer is “ we had bigger vehicles than you here”
Simple.... I LIKE IT!!!
Looks like you might need to improve your planning. Maybe try to use google maps and satellite images to verify your sat-nav route before commiting. That way you might be able to avoid running artic into roads like this. Good driving anyway.
Google maps is pretty shit and hard to plan a route on for a truck. Normally decides to bring me through mountains and down lanes with grass in the middle of the road 😂
Back in the day... the driver on uk roads had local knowledge because they were mostly British drivers.. fast forwards to the profession being swamped for foreign driver they are dependent on following sat nav.... same goes for Uber drivers V taxi drivers
Phillips County Road Atlas are excellent. Always ring the farmer for directions. You might have to get someone to come and meet you.
Rule number 1...always ring farmer first...9 times out of 10 they will say don't follow sat nav...
Many use Road Lords as users update routes...tight places is part of the job.
I drive for a living too and I know you're fairly new but you seem to get yourself in these situations a lot. I don't want to doubt your lack of planning but if I was getting sent down these types of places that often I would sack that company off. You do have a great attitude about things though which is refreshing, best of luck to you.
TomTom likes doing this. The Garmin would be a better option.
Invest in a Phillips truck atlas and plan your route with that mapping. Some occasions you will find you have to travel miles around a detour to find a more appropriate way into your destination. The truck atlas has both width and height restrictions marked. Give it a try!!👍
I will look into it, cheers for the recognition pal 🚛💨
Good man …. I need to see that map book on your dashboard so I know you have the best chance of doing great deliveries 👍on time
Never trust a sat nav when you are going to a new place. I learnt exactly as you did but a few things can help you no end. Always view on google maps then plan your route accordingly. I have a Garmin Dezl 1000. Good piece of kit but always adjust the route as it can still be a little stupid at times. It always routes me through the centre of Lincoln for example instead of taking the A15 bypass but road knowledge comes through experience. If you have a road closure don't just try and wing it. Find a place to stop and again plan your route. Again I learnt the hard way with that one!
Good luck buddy. You do a brilliant job negotiating traffic and getting around tight spots. I hope better things will come to you.
My previous company had TomTom truck sat navs and they would get you locked up - would just switch it straight off. I use a Garmin lgv800 on double decker work and it’s been absolutely brilliant. I like the option to “shape” your route so when planning I can adjust if necessary. Obviously no sat nav is 100% but together with a truckers atlas it’s pretty damn good. You keep calm in what must be a very stressful situation on some of those roads! Keep on trucking 👍🏻
Best sat nav I bought when trucking was 1 for truck. Put length width height weight in . Best money I spent.
6:40 That’s a village called Goudhurst and it’s always a nightmare for drivers. Number of times that wall has been rebuilt 😂
lmao
Man I have huge respect for you and the content you make like I seriously can feel the stress watching your videos. I don’t drive HGV yet, however I drive big vans for work and even that is stressful in areas like this. Keep up the content it’s really entertaining, plus you’re actually halarious, and you probably don’t even realise you’re being funny. Respect to you mate 👍
Matey good idea to ask one of your colleagues who delivered there before what the best route in. Save you a tonne of stress 👍
Always pull up if possible pull up about 5 to 10 miles before and call the farmer to confirm your route in mate
Good driving, you are very skilled. I had a similar experience way back in 2001, driving a class 2 to a tiny place in North Wales. Very narrow roads, moaning car drivers etc.
Happened to me in wales my very first day in a artic aswell was a nightmare I have never swet so much in all my life 😂😂😂
Retired from artic driving in 2015 after 41 years never had a satnav, can't beat a good ole map to get the lie of the land.
I feel your pain brother……..great driving, just brush up on the route planning.
Your a good driver. Big respect from a fellow arctic driver that deals with similar events. Keep it up Drive 👍
What a king, I was born in ashford, crazy thin roads. Beautiful truck too I must say
2:20 I ask myself that question at least once a week 😂 watching your videos makes me nervous but they are really good to watch, keep it up! 👍
I must say living in that area of sussex and kent that it is a right C**t for HGVs... how ever you have proven over and over again how skilled and how much care you have! Keep up the good work bud! =)
Cheers for the support mate. You comment means loads ✌🏽
The random video Gods really served me a gem this time 👏
I can feel your pain. I was in Somerset last week down narrow lanes with a container
Love your channel mate. Not many drivers would upload themselves doing this kind of thing, but I love to see it. REAL driving.
Cheers mate, I am just trying to show people what it really like been a truck driver people think it easy but the reality is that it’s no
@@truckinguk agree props to you
Great content, Keep up the good work.
When I deliver to farms I use google maps to look at all the roads in and always get directions from the farmer
Brilliant driver very calm
Its just stress I have to admire how you cope been in that situation a few times i would find a job with a planned daily route its just too stressful going into the unknown every day it would drive me bananas keep up the videos mate and good luck.
You manage the stress very well. You are very skilled!
Thanks mate 😎🚛💨
@@truckinguk I'm 13 yrs old and I want to know how to be a hgv driver
Hats off mate my head would blow
Good vid, I use to enjoy going to farms in my last job due to the challenges it offered. But I’m glad I’ve left the trucking industry and in the early stages of starting my own business up. How truck drivers are treated, and the amount of Increasingly bad drivers including fellow truckers, coupled to time away from home and other hobbies/ interests, personally it’s not worth it. I’ve found over the last month away from the job I’m less stressed I’m eating healthier I’m feeling better and more confident, witch only shows what Trucking can do to people. I obviously still have interest in trucking. Personally the industry needs massive reforms across the bord. But I don’t see any proper changes happening or meaningful changes.
Avoid the shortest route use longer route on motwrway even if it takes longer mate good job getting through the town
That’s what I am doing from now on, but they road to the farms was a nightmare either way
Fair play to ya down those narrow lanes done it many times in a 8 wheel tipper but not in an artic
Great driving 👍
Your videos are awesome 👌🏾 but way too short. Great driving skills through those narrow roads...😊
Honestly passed my class 1 last week, these video's are giving me nightmares.🥲
I’ve been down the exact same road as you in this video in my lorry. This video gave me nightmares again 😂
Never trust my Tom Tom truck sat nav around Kent! Especially Leeds Castle!! All about Co-Pilot!
Keep up the good work mate 🚛🚚
outstanding driving
great driving, you did well to keep your cool.
Cheers mate
I think you done tremendously. It’s an 11/10 from me 👏👏
❤️
This looked like absolute hell but you did amazing
thats my neck of the woods :o those roads i have fun in a 18t... that tight left between the houses ive seen some artics scrape up the side of those houses and need recovery... fair play getting through without damage on your own!!!, you could go straight there and take a sharp left and be up with the logging trucks but both equally hard routes, we call that area the hgv brick wall... only sensible way round that area for the farms is the long way round towards maidestone and then back round on the a20 cutting through is tough with a rigid let alone 40 footer... lesson learned, but brill drive non the less
1st time seeing your channel, love the camera POV can see everything! Ima sub :)
I am glad you like the videos man and thanks for the sun BRO… welcome to the family
So glad im now on days use to hate doing fertilizer work really tested your skills
Like my worst nightmare. Tomtom isn’t the best I’ve been caught out with it I’m debating getting a garmin! You got it delivered and no damage, happy days 👍
I’m considering buying a garmin myself
In the old days we used maps , never had a problem ! Worked out the North East with an ex BRS man , he didn’t even carry a map ! He knew every phone box , pub and bookies in the UK , if he asked directions he would remember where the delivery was ! Some boy 👌
my 1st job as a class 2 driver was multidrop in areas like this. I hated it everyday but looking back I've learned a lot in a short time. I did last only for 2 weeks as I've been offered another job which is store delivery but then going to town centres and different parts of London was like nothing for me even though I still was a new pass driver.
"I give this ring as my gift to you. Wear it and think of me and know that I love you."
Wow your Sat Nav 😂😂 the tight street with the church on your left was Goudhurst Kent, you were heading towards Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells (A21)… Unfortunately you were heading away from Pluckley (Ashford) if you had spun around & followed the A262 back through Goudhurst to Biddenden then turned off for Smarden/ Pluckley Rd, was only 20 mins away.. GOOD VIDEO 👍
LOL.. dont start to get too good at these roads or they will give you some more to do!
Keep em coming pal!
I've taken an artic through that S bend you went round in this video. As quite a new class 1 driver it was probably the most stressful road I've had to drive on since I passed😂
You need to sort your sat nav mate for you to be looking for Ashford and be going doing down back lanes in Tonbridge, you could of just stayed on motorway to Ashford
You ahould have rang the farmer before setting off first and got the right directions in. I feel your pain as I have been on many tight roads like that my self when delivering fertiliser to farms, and going to chipper jobs in the middle of nowhere. It's bad planning tho to rely entirely on your sat nav, as it will always get you into trouble on roads like that.
I've had exactly the same problem, I've been sent down roads in a lorry that you would struggle to get a van down. Lots of scrapes and bangs lol
You are in the top level of driving Sir. I swear you know how to shrink your lorry 🚛 round some of those corners. You are a joy to watch. Top league man. ❤
Tight roads again Buddy nicely handled though as always 👍👍
Hi just stumbled onto your site, speaking as a farmer, your first mistake was not trying to phone the farm and get the best route in or ask a colleague.
We mostly all have mobile phones and are generally very happy to help give directions.
If you can't cope with the bit of mud and dirt perhaps you should stick to motorway work.
On reflection it's wrong of me to second guess you, perhaps you were just having a bad day.
We all have them.
Happy Trucking 😁
If youve never been to a place before always before you set off have a quick look on google maps mate 👍🏼 I do european and when im out there all i use is google maps its a god send! All the best 🤝
Bet you're glad you're mirrorless 👍🏼😁
Welcome to Kent, haha. It's not the greatest place to drive, especially Canterbury.
However, how did you end up down those road when going to Ashford? You have the M20 that takes you straight there, or come off before Ashford and use the A20 🤷🏻♂️
You need to update your sat nav...and get your route planner to arrange better routes...
I feel for you bud, looks like a nightmare I've been in few times myself. Sadly I have to admit its usually down to ny own lack of preparedness lol. Google maps satellite view is your best friend or it should be😅. Keep in trucking bro
Check, check and check again. Most of the problems youve encountered here was through bad planning. You handled it well though.
It is what it is brother, I used to deliver fertiliser and some of the messes I’ve been in, even had 1 that had ye take 20 meters of hedge down so he could unload me 😂
I get the feeling some of those narrow lanes could be avoided altogether? guessing you put the address in the sat nav and just drive ??
As an ex low loader driver (now store deliveries) i would first and foremost ring the contact before i even set off, explain the size of my vehicle and get the best directions off them , 9 times out of 10 that works perfect ... Failing that use W3W with a combination of hgv sat nav and google maps for street and satelite view and plan your own route 😎🤘 it would sometimes take me a good 20mins before i even set off 😅 ..
Anyway happy trucking🤘
Signs at Goudhurst say no HGVS
Ashford boy! 🙋🏻♂️
What sat nav do you use or recommend I’m doing my class 1 test next week, love your videos mate 👍
Excellent 👍.
Thanks mate ✌🏽
You’ll finish up having a heart attack boy ! Just chill out !
I know 😅😅
Change your sat nav settings.
Bro, you’re becoming an expert at these roads 😂
As stressful as it may be, the experience will for sure help you in the future.
I know man 😂😂
Yes this will help in the future 😎
Treat yourself to a truck satnav pal
@@stevesimpson5174 when a monkey speak 😂 wonder what is he using 😂
My god man, you get in some crazy situations, but you are one hell of a driver
Mate you definetely have a skill for it. I know what delivery schedule sometimes can be like but give yourself time to check google maps etc and different routes always have a plan B in place I sometimes will take a longer route because its safer and then if anyone asks ill just say I thought it was a safer route, delivery fot there undamaged so you've got nothing to moan about lol. Anyway you're very skilled brother and keep going mate you've got this 👌😎🚛💨
Cheers for the tip and support man 😎🚛💨 keep on trucking ✌🏽
@Trucking UK you'll see some lorry drivers that are just prices but majority of us will only want the best for you and help you in your hgv journey brother
Cheers pal
@@martinsulewski You're a real Trucker, God Bless.
I’ve had to drive a 7.5 tonne through Goudhurst, that tight corner around the church is a nightmare, I feel sorry for you in an HGV 😂
Your learning by your mistakes but you don't panic doing a good job.
Cheers mate
You're not learning your difference between your and you're.
@@Nickbaldeagle02 how about up yours.
Set navs a great but there's a lot to be said for the good old fashioned AAA road, atlas
Hopefully lesson learned. You never needed to go down all the roads 😅 remember the 3 Ps! Plan plan plan to avoid or it will turn to piss poor planning 😅
😂😂😂😂 ask me I only do these kind of routes I can feel you brother lol
Bro what nav you using ?? I’m getting on well with the snooper 👍 that area you was in brings back horrible memories of my general haulage days 😮💨🚛
I live in locally , where you asked that guy for directions . You had just passed a fenced off yard on your right , that used to be a haulage company called Coulling bros that run a fleet of artics from out of there .
Alright, did they moved somewhere else?
@@truckinguk sold on to another haulier who sold the yard and moved out .
They did the right time by moving on 😂😅
@@truckinguk they did have a few minor accidents with dickheads in cars driving way to fast over the many years they where there .
I hate going to places blind as it can bite you in the ass !,....Usually if its really tight it will have a sign saying Unsuitable for HGVs but its not always the case,....And of course Busses need to access these places and although not as long as an artic they are the same length as a rigid which gives you some hope ! (unless its a short bus !!)
You bring your OWN STRESS if in doubt get out ...
Use your phone and ask for directions...
Check your route before you start ...
3,000,000 million miles over 40 years and stuck once .....
Take a job where you're delivering goods for the company you work for. Rather than always facing unknown locations usually with totally crap roads.
Also the weather helps but in uk normally those small lines are really wet and get dark early how do you deal with all those things I asked because I’ll be taking the hgv course soon . Help
Why do you keep holding the hand break with your hand? Do you apply it every time you stop, even if you don’t get off the lorry?
Planning ahead and check Google maps 😅
I sympathize with you mate, I drove a 50ft double deck cattle truck and often had to reverse up to half a mile a one time due to no turning room in farm. I know your frustration and anger. Well done . Good driving.
Are u Creasy Man why u going to those very tight places but at the end your excellent Driver.
I think you want to invest in a HGV satnav to avoid all these tight roads
Had heart palpatations for u their
It was a bit stressful 😅
As they say, slow and steady wins the race. Panicking will just cause accidents
If I was you give up driving HGVS 😂😂
You same like someone that give up easy
Need to change your sat nav or use maps and the phonecall 👍
I’m buying a new sat nav man I had enough 😂
@@truckinguk When you buy your new GPS/Sat Nav, could you make a video about it to explain how it works and what are the advantages and disadvantages, thanks.
Yes can do mate, you thanks for the idea.
How did you end up on them country lanes if you were going to ashford?
As I always say, anyone can drive on a straight line or a motorway. When you get in places like these, this is when you test your driving skills.
Hahaha. I enjoyed that. In the 30+ I've been driving artic I've can honestly say I've been in every situation and much much worse. Dude don't stress so much, but FFS buy a good map of the UK using a bit of common sense and a good map will save you hours and a cpl of grand.
Why don't you use a map ? as well as a SAT NAV ?
Everyone talking about sat nav, but they probably have never been to Tonbridge. I often go there, and trust me there is no easy route. It is beautiful place though 😂
Tonbridge is the second worst place I have been after the Yorkshire dales, managed to get through.
I bet you those guys in the comments section just go to industrial estates and big yards😂
@@truckinguk yes definitely, it’s very tight. I kind of love it though, although it’s tight it’s more fun that just motorway driving. I love a challenge to be honest.
Nah these guys probably do the same route A to B every day and call themselves a lorry driver 😂😂
I will agree tonbridge is a nightmare then again the whole of rural kent is a dick and also cornwall
What is your accent? I'm getting Irish, Welsh and scouse. With a bit of southern
Im watching this cringing at how tight the road and truck is and passing cars Horrible better planning
