I actually REALLY like this approach to how the tripods walk, instead of just the legs being fixed, they're on a rotating "waist" that spins around so it's always the "right" foot taking a step, like the legs are spinning around like a propeller. It's genius, and very unique.
War of the Worlds explicitly states that they somehow made all their machinery without any wheels, the machines somehow being constructed in resemblance to organic life.
The body isn't rotating, nor is the waist, the body is shaking along with he movement with the three legs, note this is a cartoon so the legs will go through each other but reimagine it from a different perspective similar to the 2005 but reversed, that's sort of how their moving .
I'm actually surprised that Disney did this. They actually perfected the design of the Martians and the Fighting Machines and even mentioned the Black Smoke which is something rarely featured in the adaptions of the book. The only thing I can complain about the Tripods here are the lack of tentacles and the glass parts. I'd like to see what @pupbenny thinks of these Tripods watching his reviews.
You know, instead of putting resources into Pocahontas, they could have been adapting this. Imagine it. 1995, you get War of the Worlds, then in 96, You get Hunchback! Two classic novel adaptions back to back!
And just like that ladies and gentlemen, Walt Disney Pictures presents “the War of the Worlds.”
And we should be happy with this. Because this is the ONLY time they're doing it. Unless somebody greenlights the idea.
