- As the seasons change I felt inspired to do a little arrangement of this classic tune.
I find the SWAM solo strings to be very fun to work with, especially when it comes to sketching and developing and arrangement. It's also possible to go into quite meticulous detail with the performances which is a lot of fun.
Even though I'm not convinced by the final sound quality, it feels good to stay true to the sound in my head rather than compromise the vision in order to play to the strengths of a particular sample library.
There's minimal processing - no EQ or compression, just a bit of Altiverb on the master channel (Wigmore Hall 6s preset)
Other samples used:
Pizz - Cinematic Studio Solo Strings
Bass (layer) - Adagio Basses v2.0

Beautifully done!
Very nice 👍👍
Beautiful Vince! :)
I made a noise at 0:09 - big wow!
Haha! Thanks Billy 😄
Very nice little whimsy piece, but do I detect a whiff of Bourbon Street 0:25 ... :)
That is right, but actually this part has always been present in the original song Les Feuilles Mortes by Joseph Kosma, first released around 1948... and Sting wasn't even born ;)
@@Yann_Le_Bihan Oh that's interesting. Yes, just checked it. I know Sting was greatly influenced by the folk traditions and jazz which is certainly evident in his later work, not that I am suggesting he is a musical Magpie. The big question is, was Joseph Kosma 'influenced' by some traditional melody :). Only goes to show that we are all learning from each other along the way. Thanks.
yo! Never heard this Sting track until now but i can hear it’s heavily inspired by autumn leaves/Les Feuilles Mortes
Great writing (as alway!). And great playability of the strings, but not sold on the tone/timbre.
Thanks! Agreed, it's not a patch on live strings but would say it communicated my idea more precisely than would've been possible e.g with CSS Solos. Prob worth noting that there's definitely room for improvement on the mix/placement/reverb side - all of which would have a big impact on perceived tone. My thinking with this sketch is I didn't want to obscure the presence of the strings, but I still have a lot to learn!
@@vincecomposer yeah as a pro string player and sample dev, the modeling approach is interesting and probably the better option if you intend to replace with live anyway. As im learning these days myself, making a convincing solo string library with traditional sampling tech is very, very difficult - but so is the modeling approach. What you gain in playability, you lose in tone, it seems.
Either way, it communicated your idea effectively, I think.
@@bunkersamples Yeah there's so much inherent complexity in string instruments it's no surprise we haven't cracked it yet! BTW your samples look interesting, give me a shout if you ever want somebody to beta test/demo 🙂
@@vincecomposer Would love to, I just sent you an email.
