Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Here is our full interview with Shannan - czcams.com/video/EUd5hZL62MA/video.html
Shannan is definitely in the top 3 best guests. Not only does she give so much information and tips, she's straight to the point. Never too long-winded and never too short. And her perspective and experience is so valuable. Thank you!!
I don’t like how she solves her writing problem by outside force. It is weird. Who has this outlet?
Shannan is back! We love her.
She's so calming and knowledgeable. Sounds like a pithy observation, but it's not a common combo these days.
Shannan is a force. I love her clarity of thought and her articulation.
Yaaaas!!! We missed Shannan ✨✨✨✨
Wonderful advice. I'm guilty of trying to trying to keep everything lean instead of trimming it later.
The wise one is back 🙌
Truly
Every time I see Shannan's face, my brain lights up. "YAAAASSSSS," it says 😂
I really enjoy Shannan's videos and her advice/lessons. Her advice is very universal and I feel like I always walk away with something greater each time I watch one.
Thank you for this expert on this very valuable information.
Love her comments. I would love to have her as a consultant. When I can afford her 😊
She’s my favorite brain on this account. Insightful. To the point. Clear.
Excellent advice that I definitely needed right now. 😊 Thanks
Thank you for the amazing content❤
A second pair of eyes was the best thing that helped me before doing my second draft.
Insightful 🤔
Go Shannan you said a mouth full in the first few paragraphs. I forced myself to make a deadline for a contest. It's in consideration for the end of the month. I went and printed out the project and went away from it for over a week. I went back and found a thousand things wrong with it. I now have everything very very close but I'll have to enter it in a different contest. Oh well. It taught me to make sure all future submissions are ready a few weeks before the contest starts or ends. Go back through them and find the tons of things you thought were done and correct. A very good video... Thank you. Film Courage.
You'll get it next time. 💚
I love listening to a master talking about their craft.
wise as always shannan
These Rock!
All hail Shannan! 👏🏾
Shannan's back!
Great stuff! 😀
I need water and forgiveness for my first draft
bruh, I've been keeping a story in my head for few years before writing it down and you expect me to forget it all in a week?
Lol. You'll be surprised how fresh it'll look to you after a week.
If you can, get a thrid, fourth, fifth (and so on) set of eyes! More eyes and brains see and will think about stuff, it is better than just you looking at your story.
There are no geniuses, whatever anyone says!
What she said about a Woman being mean to her husband might have nothing to do about him (at least some of the times😂) might have nothing to do with him, hit me. I’ve been thinking about this about me and my wife several times.
Have you ever wrtten a perfect second draft?
Hey am a beginner in writing I have a question,,is freelancing a better way to start my career in screenwriting??
Blahhhhhhahhhh I do a *minimum* of 4 or 5 drafts (I don't know if it matters that I write narrative fiction rather than screenplays).
My draft quality/effort index/fallout rankings:
1. Titanic
2. Interstellar
3. The Matrix
4. Cabin in the Woods
5. X-Files: I Want to Believe X Sunshine Cleaning
6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
7. Die Hard X Rocky
Bonus feel-good flick: Groundhog Day (proofreading)
If you ever get to a Don't Look Up stage, it's time for a rewrite.
What do you emphasize when working on a second draft?
Structure! Story strength. I usually have somewhat organic / natural dialogue, though sometimes over-written, and punchy, interesting-ish characters. Story logic and momentum, transitions and entertainment drive (keeping reader locked-in, turning the pages, needing to know what happens next & how it's resolved) is what I am fighting for and bushwhacking through in the re-write process. With a machete and a chainsaw, it sometimes fees like.
As usual cuts through, clarifies and explains It in layman's terms. Awesome as usual.
