Neither Volynets nor anyone here seems to be able to say it: SHE DOESN'T SPEAK ANY ENGLISH WHATSOEVER. She wasn't able to comprehend what Volynets said at all! She just reiterated the few sentences she memorized for situations like this. What she said didn't fit the situation and wasn't a proper response to Volynets' point. Absolute language barrier. So she shouldn't just be punished for the mistake but actually not be allowed back until she can properly communicate. That's an absolute disgrace to anyone who learned English as a foreign language (like me and millions of other people). You wanna work on the WTA tour with international people from all over the world, you MUST be able to speak basic English. End of story.

@@marc-andregauthier5139That’s not how the judgement system works. If volynets had hit her return out, then it would have been up to judgement. But because she returned the ball, and then it was called out, that makes it a replay. To be clear, there is NO ROOM for judgement here. It is a fact that she hit the ball back before the call was made, which by the rules means it’s a replay. You can’t just say “judgement” as an excuse. Not for this rule.

They would be under the respective tours, so there would be performance feedback. There has been instances previously where an umpire has been removed for the remainder of a tournament, and that would have financial impacts for them.
Players can also stipulate if they don’t want a certain umpire, I’m not sure how that process works though.

while the bronzetti is perfectly right, nonetheless her ball _was_ out/going out, so she should just accept that she lost the point. in pro ping-pong, even the official umpires never give the point to the bronzetti if/when the opponent touches the ball before it actually touches the ground (=legally confirmed out). it's because EVERYONE can see that the bronzetti has just hit an outball and there's no need to wait for the ball to actually touch the ground; in ping-pong, nobody needs or insists on the legal confirmation. if the outball touches the opponent or the opponent's racket first, on its itinerary "between the table and the floor", then nobody cares. the opponent gets the point, and done!
sportsmanship is the very first rule in ping-pong. In no other common sports, sportsmanship is valued and exercised higher. tennis players could learn a lot from the ping-pong sport!!
