It’s because they’re speaking to the supervisor on a question of fact. They can’t do anything. If the player called on interpretation of the rules that’s different, but they hardly ever do. It’s usually because they don’t like a decision which the supervisor can do nothing about.

Yeah but the umpire is being difficult for no reason. Thompson hit a shot that ended the rally, Zverev then took few seconds to challenge. Zverev is right that there is no consistency how umpires allow challenges. I've seen so many times players discussing the call with the umpire asking his opinion and then challenge, like wtf?? Sometimes 3 seconds is too long but other times 15 seconds is fine.

Monte-Carlo: It all started at 2-1 in the 2nd set with questionable lines calls then escalated when Meddy freaked out at Mo Leyhani during the changeover after getting broken by Monfils in the 2nd set at 4-1. "It's OUT!" "I'm playing so good!" "I don't see the time clock..." cursing, etc. I fully expect to see this moment in the clay court drama video. Good close-ups of his face, too. They chatted about it at the end of the match & Meddy was right. Hawk-Eye showed it was indeed OUT. It was an important point that gave Monfils the undeserved break, so Meddy went into lockdown mode & won the next 5 games. 6-2 6-4 1hr 27mins.

So funny how I remember each of these moments as they unfolded & now I can sit back and enjoy the compilations months later. What you omitted from the opening Botic clip, which the commentators expounded upon, is that he actually MADE the shot, but was so scrambled mentally & so down on himself throughout that match that the second violation (ball abuse) was a premature, self-sabotaging, utter lack of self-belief that ultimately cost Botic the tiebreak when he very much could've have won it. It was insane. I hope he never does that to himself again. You must believe in yourself.

I can't wait for this whole court drama to be over. Everyone from the peanut gallery & TC is constantly looking to take jabs at a situation they're not inside of and lack the legal background to speak on. Good on Zverev for just staying focused on playing excellent tennis.
The ATP already conducted their investigation using a third party & the players already nominated and voted for him to be on the Council. The fact that he's going through the stress of appealing instead of paying the fine & merely settling already says a lot. He has his daughter & his girlfriend and has moved on from what was clearly not the best relationship.
People are using allegations and cancel culture to preemptively make him out to be the Ike Turner of tennis and then engage in flippant disregard for "innocent until proven guilty". The burden is on the prosecution NOT the defense. Truth is, we don' know anything, so let's just stay out of it.

I love the difference of reaction/behaviour between Sinner who gets an unjustified time violation in the tie-break and Zverev who gets denied the right to challenge a call because it quite obviously came too late at 30-30, beginning of a set, not even on his serve 🤦‍♂️

    • @got2bjosh

Apples to oranges. Zverev was livid because he had lost a crucial point after playing for nearly three hours going past midnight at a lower 250 event worth less money & points. Sinner had been playing for far less time at a Masters event which is worth more money & points & had just won two big tournaments giving him 2.5k points. Easier to take a time violation misunderstanding in stride.

@@tmmusic724 It was super late at night, the match had been going on for nearly three hours by that point and Thompson would just not go away ever since escaping Michelsen. Nobody wants to work that hard at a 250. So many bad bounces on that court, too. Even Thompson was freaking out about it early in the match. Los Cabos ended up being a hot mess for everyone except Thompson who won against ALL odds in singles & doubles. A wild 250.

I agree based on what we saw he is right. However he could have handled that so much better. Now again they’re 2 hours and 40 minutes in. From someone who’s played matches well over three hours the mental drain is severe. Not an excuse for consistent verbal obscenities after the fact but in the moment do I agree with how he handled it, no, do I understand why it went there, yes. The changeover was way over the line. At this point he’s harping on this way too much

Oh poor Ruud, they get hundreds of thousands of dollars to chase a ball on the court, but the tournaments are so cheap that they can't put a comfy chair in his trailer.
    Poor soul.
