    Someone should do the data on the number of times a player 'calls the supervisor' and gets the umpire's decision changed. I'd guess it's very close to 0%.

      This is because players act like immature little children and call the supervisor whenever they don't get their way, even if it isn't a matter for the supervisor. The chair umpire is the ultimate authority on judgment calls on the court. The supervisor cannot change any of the chair umpire's judgment calls even if they wanted to. The supervisor is only there to settle disputes about rules interpretations or tournament administrative stuff.
      Zverev's complaint was the proper time to call a supervisor.

      It was more than obvious he waited for his shot to see where it's going. Like right when he turned around he could've raised his finger but nop.

      @@GdNYahe did raise his finger but it was subtle and he did it before the out call which is more than what most players do and get away with. Players have been awarded with a challenge with much slower reactions.

      @@camzbe3Better players get better courts thats how it always been. So no all players are not treated same and should not be. You need to pay for this sport somehow and you cant put some random 500players on main courts because no one will watch them.

      Because he break the rythm of the other player. Sorry my bad english i am spanish. Is uncountable the number of times i saw in this page the player is losing, take a discuss with the referee, call supervisor, etc and in the final of the match he is the winner. Is because he break the match, the other player is confused, cold phisically you know. I like potatoes with crispy chicken

      It’s always noisy like this in the American tournaments. I guess when it gets into your head you can’t take it out and becomes a distraction. Totally players’ fault though. It’s not uncommon

    Sometimes players call the supervisor, the intent sometimes is not to get the decision overturned but a tactical maneuver to get their opponent out of their winning rhythm.

      Borges should've gotten a "replay the point" on that one, because the "out" call came slightly before he made contact with the ball, which arguably hindered him.
      If the "out" came after he made contact & the return was no good, he should've lost the point.

You can play hockey or football (both American and European football) if you want to use vulgar language. Secondly saying vulgar language on tv isn’t allowed. Those are the rules. You don’t like it???find another sport to play and/or watch.

      Anyway, I think that tennis should no longer be considered a gentleman's sport, I think that type of thinking is outdated.
      But I understand that obscenity isn't allowed right now, so I'm fine with that, too.
      I enjoy tennis too much to stop watching it because not enough swearing is present.

    Shelton really worked his way into winning the Tokyo title. Losing the 1st set in R1 to Daniel finally made him play smarter not harder. Then Shelton willed his way back from the precipice of defeat in that epic SF against Giron & it was a wrap. Such an exciting player to watch. As for Shanghai, doubles may have been a bust, but Shelton made it to the QF & Hubi won the title, so things worked out.

      @@erhector sinner and alcaraz are only a year older and a year younger than him, respectively, and behave way more maturely than he does. When it comes to making complaints, they do not whine a lot unless so many bad mistakes have been made against them. Look at sinner vs Galan at the Wimbledon earlier this year, the umpire was being a clown, so sinner had a right to complain. If it was just one bad call, he would just leave it and move on.

In baseball you have 60,000 people screaming at you while you are trying to hit a 98 mph slider. A quarterback has to process a million different things with 100,000 people yelling and screaming. A little music is not that big of a deal.

      @@JK-vc7ie Zverev wasn’t being a baby. He was very clear and professional about the issue. Break point, set point, & match point are the most important ones in the game. If ever there was a time for silence & complete focus, it’s then.
      Tennis is an individual sport which makes it much more difficult. All of the pressure is on you. There’s no having an off day. There’s not a bunch of people to lean on who can pick up the slack. The culture of tennis is also very different. The noise is distracting when you’re trying to play such a technical game with such a small ball that changes as points are played compared to other sports.

Second, zerev was being a “baby” in the sense of making a big deal of it during the match, even if his communication of the matter was reasonable and professional. Adapt, improvise and overcome. It’s just some music. It should not be playing, but it is. Life is not perfect. Adapt improvise and overcome. Deal with how things are, not how you wish they were or even how they should be.

    I will agree that umpires are very inconsistent when a player either "hits an out ball" then challenges. Basically the "too late" "too early" arguement. With all the scientific advancement we have, it'd be pretty simple to implement a solution to this

      We always said Nick should learn to swear in another language. Federer swears/swore a great deal but always in German or French. He only got fined when the ref could speak those languages - and then only if they dared. The refs wait from the moment they get into the chair for Nick to say f. It gets them up to their fines minimum.

Joder is a borderline bad word in Spain (a country much more relaxed with foul language than those in the anglosphere, by the way) and it can be used as a translation in some occasions, but it's certainly not as loaded a word as the F word. So, in short, I do understand the call, but I'm also somewhat sympathetic to the player.

    Any time someone says "Call the supervisor or I won't play" I immediately lose respect for them. There are times the supervisor can be called and you can state your grievance then. You don't have the right to hold up play and throw off your opponent because you want to throw a tantrum.

    I understand Zverev's point but I also believe if you're a professional level athlete you should be able to play your sport even when there's noise. If music can throw you off that much then you're probably not as mentally strong as you could be. It's like Rublev freaking out on that photographer who moved during a point

    Medvedev foot faulted, the call doesn't matter to the shot at all. She should either be talked to or replaced but there shouldn't be a 1st serve. When the call was made is irrelevant to the actual call...it's still a foot fault

    Are there Chair Umpire rules that stipulate that they're never allowed to even agree with players? Some of these tournaments seem more like entertainment venues than sporting events, and Zverev (+ others in the past) is right that the music is distracting. Does she get penalized by tournament organizers if she at least goes, "Yeah, I agree, but we've asked and there's nothing we can do"?

    It surprises me how much Medvedev is loved despite his anger. His temper tantrums are the worst on tour in my opinion. When things aren’t going his way, he will say just about anything to you. Horrible character.

      It's going to sound weird but it's probably because he's unapologetic and most of the times he has a point. So people know that he's not just apologising or acting up for attention or PR reasons. He seems more genuine even if he has a loose temper.

      I'm not particularly fond of him myself, but in this instance, he didn't behave that badly. It's understandable that the music is frustrating, especially on important points, but he didn't take his anger out on the umpire/supervisor
