I think Kösem goes too far this time. I know her good intention to protected all şehzades, but that harsh succession made Ottoman produced capable and powerful sultan for centuries.
Thats right and many people dont understand why it was done they that just think they were crazy murderers. I don't know is Kossem was responsible for this change in real life but it was start of the end of sultanate now internal fights for the throne take off because there were more then one hair, often too old or too young sultans were put on throne and in effect become puppets of janissaries and court cliques. To understand context the main duty of Sultans and why the were ruthless almost tyrant was to keep janissaries in check. They were strongest weapon of the empire but also its greatest weakness and when they revolted it was bloodbath, city burned, economy crippled and state in tatters because ruling elite was murdered. Also it is questionable if this was more humane be killed or be locked often for decades in small rooms without any contact no wonder empire was doomed at that point.
That is historically inaccurate they did slowly so it wouldn't hurt politics you should know you are watching show. Plus her halting the law was the reason their bloodline survived.
