  • Tyler1 recently reached a rapid chess rating of 1800, placing him in the top 1% of all chess players on chess.com.
    He has reached an elite level of chess and quite frankly, we should all be scared because he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

A famous example is Roger Bannister breaking the 4 minute mile and then all of a sudden 'lots' of people were breaking 4 mins. Tyler had the benefit of already being incredibly good at at least one other thing that required fast tactical thinking with longer term strategy, so that whole mental aspect of the wall was mitigated and he already had some aspects of chess well developed before he even played the game.

      He is stating a simple fact that is present across everything that requires practice. Everyone reaches a plateau or wall at some point. It isn't that they are unable to break through, it is they are unable to maintain the level of commitment needed to break through.
      When you practice, you are rewarded with an increased ability to do whatever you are practicing. It may be a very small amount, but it does become noticeable as you continue. That wall or plateau is when you are no longer improving no matter how much you practice. There are no gains for the effort invested. That can last for years and is extremely discouraging. Not many people have the desire and drive to continue putting in a lot of hours when there is no improvement. Our time is limited and valuable, so people will switch to something else that has caught their interest or devote less time to practice and more time to things they find enjoyable.

    • @ACSMEX
      @ACSMEX Před měsícem +3

      The wall is real. Tyler is talented, but each ELO point he gains is one ELO point closer to levels where EVERYONE is talented, but also studying chess and not only playing it. Playing and tactics can only take you so far. A tactic requires a mistake, which will be less and less common the higher he climbs.
      Still, the fact he can get that high is proof of how dedicated he is. I wish him well and hope that he gets a tutor if he really wants to keep grinding that ELO.

      I mean, obviously.
      If you play league or even watch it at fairly high level, you learn that the strategic side of the game has a MASSIVE impact on wins, not just mechanics.
      Tyler is a great example of this, as it’s been pretty clear he is not the most mechanical player, but his knowledge on things like macro, micro, gold earned, wave control, match ups and so on is what got him that 5 role challenger. He actually LEARNED HOW and WHY things work in the game. But his streamer personality and his energetic side conflict with it so much that people might get the wrong idea and think he is just mindlessly brawling through matches.
      Put all that type of gameplay on a game as limited as chess and you have all the good sides without him “running it down for kills”. Super interesting tbh

    I think a lot of people don't get that, how much of mastery and improvement is really a psychological phenomenon. When you master your own mind, you really unlock so much potential. I learnt this myself when I made more improvements over the last year in language learning and piano than I have in the last 10 years.
    Most of us are not aware, but we harbour a lot of psychological inhibitions that prevent us from unlocking our full state of concentration. Whether it be insecurities, fear of embarassment, or other such things, we "limit" ourselves in order to prevent ourselves from the pain of loss or being inadequate.
    What Tyler has mastered is the art of COCENTRATION, and focusing on his desire to improve and be better. He doesn't worry about looking stupid, he doesn't fear failure the same way. He just keeps playing and stays FOCUSED on whatever it is he's doing because his only desire is to reach the next goal. He's learned how to block out all the noise distractions and insecurities.
    I don't think he's necessarily "built different" in that he possess a special gift others don't have, but he has achieved mastery over his own mind through perseverence and desire.

I used to watch Tyler back when he first started and came up as a variety streamer, I've never watched him play league. Tyler 1 has an obsessive mindset that extends beyond just 1 accomplishment, and I noticed it fairly early on. CS Major (LUL), bodybuilding, football player, runescape addict, then league addict. Then he grinded out being a variety streamer providing some of the best content during that time, and he would even endure getting trolled and griefed in pubg and dayz or whatever back in the day.

    I don't watch Tyler but he is deffo the prove that if you grind and have the motivation you can achieve anything lmao. Everytime he sets himself a goal he fucking destroys it, crazy grinds.

    You can cope as much as you want and pretend like what I'm about to say is not true, but Tyler1 is simply a very high IQ individual that is simultaniously extremely low in neuroticism, which means that he has very high levels of never ending ambition pumping through him for no reason. It's simply how he was born, his brain is not normal. This things have been obvious forever if you are even remotely familiar with how dominant of world class player he trully has been in league of legends as well. Some people are just born with Golden Brains, and a Golden Brain will not necessarily manifest in wanting to be a mathemathician of phisychist. Sometimes that Golden Brain will simply strive to be the absolute best at some random game, just because.
