I just can't get enough of your videos! You're just a breath of fresh air! I'm a 'retired' teacher of 15 years who started out in G/T and ended my career teaching SpEd, with high school English & theatre in between. My paid career ended as I chose homeschool my own two kiddos who both suffered with severe Tourette's Syndrome with one of them also having Cystic Fibrosis.
With all of that said, I am so grateful that you are sharing your heart with the masses. People all over have so much to gain from your wisdom. From inclusion to acceptance and even just the glimpse into the mind of a teacher, your entertaining tidbits are such an awesome teaching tool for us all. Thank you!

I think we all need to be more aware that its not okay to take away rights of others. Yes, there are people who abuse the situations but there are also many who truly just have needs.

When you've given the kids a chance to go to the bathroom and the kids don't take advantage of it, then in the absence of a doctor's note you have no reason to assume that you're violating their rights. Part of teaching is teaching kids boundaries and taking advantage of opportunities, after all.

    • @gigglesandhugs5690
      @gigglesandhugs5690 Před 8 měsíci +8

@@pendlera2959 part of that is also NOT lumping all kids together. None of us want to be judged for what someone else does. Yes, we all need boundaries and rules. However, you are violating a right when you assume you know the answer but never ask a question. Thats NOT just teachers that could be anyone in authority. Yes, if you know that person is just messing around than thats different than a true need. sometimes you might just have a bad tummy day. sometimes it could be that time of the month for someone. Sometimes it could be the bully was hanging out in the bathroom or there were too many people trying to go. Not everything is doctors note worthy but could be handled with a simple conversation.

Happy Spina Bifida Day!!!! As a person from a family of ppl with all kinds of disabilities AND as an adult with a GI disability...THANK YOU!!!! ❤❤❤ bathroom talk is important talk! At one job, we designated an out of the way restroom as the "GI" bathroom & put up a sign that we did not want to hear any nonsense chatter about it, as per the ADA, and it worked. But for real, everybody let other people use the bathroom with as little input from you as possible.

When I lived the states, I was a school nurse in a high school. I did have to do a lot of education for teachers and staff for my students with health issues. I also helped students to find their own voice for self advocacy.

Thanks for being an advocate for the students! My nephew has type 1 Diabetes. The children's hospital taught him how to be in touch with how he felt when his blood sugar went low. At school he would request to leave the classroom so he could go get his blood sugar checked,as he felt he was going low. Can't tell you how many times the teachers would say no! Thankfully, he finally got his diabetic service dog that alerts and no more issues with the teachers.( they wouldnt believe him, but they believe a dog!)

I love that. I had a teacher in elementary school that wouldn't let me go to the bathroom until i finished my math sheet and i had a accident didn’t help the bullying. But i will forever appreciate the teachers in highschool that let me go without too many questions there was a few days i ended up really sick at school and if they would have questioned me too hard i would have thrown up in the classroom 😂

I'm a retired preschool teacher and we had a little boy in the class that had an issue with bowel movements and wore a pull up. Me and my coworker worked around different ways of.doing things to where the other kids wouldn't know he had taken longer maybe he needed a change of pullups or clothing we tried to drawl attention away from him in the bathroom..because sometimes kids arent nice and if it was me in that situation I wouldn't want to be embarrassed or have kids laugh at me either because it looked like he wasn't potty trained when it was a physical health problem I think more teachers should try to be aware of certain things.... a little bit of kindness goes a long way for someone ❤❤

My daughter had a teacher who wouldn't let her go to the bathroom even with a doctor's note. I had to go to the principal and threaten to hire a lawyer just to get her bathroom privileges, the teacher retaliated by singling her out for stupid stuff, oh and she was vice principal.

    Happy Spina Bifida day!!!!
If I was a teacher, yea I'd let the kid go when they need to!!! I was that child who would never ask, and I ended up in the hospital for dehydration and a bowel obstruction in 6th grade!!! I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I went through.
I can always take a few minutes to catch them up when they get back, or another student should be able to as well. If I knew a student had a situation where they needed something like a catheter, I'd be discreet about it, but make sure they have an opportunity to go, and ALONE if they wish!!!

And that’s why I will never forget the trauma from second grade, it followed me to HS. I went at recess and I had to go again, she wouldn’t let me, so obviously I went in my chair. But thankfully I have a mama bear and boy did she let the school have it! This was the 80s.

Love this. Goodness 4th-7th grade was ridiculous. I was misdiagnosed with IBS and had me running to the bathroom daily with stomach pain. Teachers wouldnt let me go. Anyways looking back at it, I feel so bad for these kids. Never had IBS. It was a gallbladder deformity 20+ years later. IBS doesnt exist, just a blanketed term.

Back inthe 80's I had to actually get a doctor's note just to be able to go to the bathroom when I needed too. As a SPED Life skills EA, I believe (almost, lol) every kiddo when they say they need to go. We actually have a kinder that spent the first 3 months or so holding it All day! That have gotten slightly more comfortable since September, lol. On a side note, I'm so glad that I found you today Mr. Lima beans! I look forward to the laughs.

I know that there are something called spina bifida, but I don't know a lot about it(except that badly bred bulldogs can also have it), but if someone told me you had some sort of disability, spina bifida is not what I would have thought of. You are very active for someone with a disability. You are the prefect poster child for positivity. Keep on being you and thank you for the glimpses into you and your lovely family's life. ❤ &🙏 to all.

I also have spina bifida and hydrocephalus when I was growing up many years ago I didn't want any body to know about that so I kept it to myself and I never would go to the bathroom or change into my gym clothes in front of others because of the scar on my back I would go to a part of the locker room where no one could see me. I was bullied enough in school for what they could see ,my glasses, my bargain clothes instead of the current fashion and the orthopedic shoes I had to wear which was very expensive, I looked very much like a kid who was a nerd and was called names like four eyes and cripple in elementary school. So I have empathy for anyone who has a disability and deals with this.

I do feel for teachers and the decisions they have to make. A close family member was a teacher and let a student go and she lit the paper towels in the bathroom on fire in a set of huts. I don't think her administration was very supportive and of course the teacher felt guilty for the "what if" it spread and those buildings and decks went up like a match. Of course, it's not the teacher's fault the school system doesn't have adequate space and not other students' faults, who need to use the restroom. Just tough spots we put our teachers in.
