    Not only is the Harley getting spanked, but the buffeting around the RG driver's head is sooo obvious. Harley still hasn't addressed this after, oh about a million complaints from owners. Why? Because they don't care.

      A ninja will smoke the Polaris also.... point is they are cruisers of course they did give the Polaris more horse power but again if that’s all you want why buy a cruiser... it’s like buying a hummer and saying a corvette outruns me me everytime... aside of more horse power... and I have never needed or even considered needing more then the 114 makes stock... if every other way the rg is better better styling a lot more color choices better equipped to travel across country which I do on my 2020 limited and ultra version before it even if I wanted a Polaris I would have to go with the road master but no water cooled they still use tractor technology for that bike... quoting a Harley troll there who was bragging on Polaris.. and costs more... of course 2 out of 3 challenger versions costs more the. The road glide counter part also you can spend more... get the Polaris then you can be the first one to the bar that’s all you will have..

    Walt... I would submit this in defense of your RG. You handicapped yourself. The way those are geared you're not going to get much power for acceleration in 6th gear at any speed much below 70 or 75. Clearly the Challenger has more legs on the top end and the Dyno charts show that. Flatter torque cruve that stays high at higher speed and RPM. I agree the Challenger has a broader powerband but that's to be expected with full liquid cooling and a two pin crank. With that said you didn't give the M8 it's best shot at showing if it can compete by lugging in 6th. That just made the difference more pronounced. That M8 motor likes revs way more than the twin cam Harleys. Shift down and spin the shit out of that thing up toward the red line more and it will show what it can do much better. I know this because my Freedom 106 in my Victory is the same way. the power band on that motor really starts to grab at 2800 to 3000 rpm on up to the 6000 red line. Ride your M8 like that and you'll like it more until you trade for the Indian. Just trying to be fair. I'm not a HD guy... Clearly I ride a Vic. Thanks....

    • @jimr5472
      @jimr5472 Před 4 lety +5

      Totally agree and the Challenger will most likely be my next bike. I had to learn that with my 4 valve overhead cam Victory Freedom 106 motor. They like the revs more than the Harley dual Cam or even the EVO motors did. The M8 is like that too. You gotta spin it harder to get the power out of her. Down shift, peg that fucker and don't let off till you're banging the rev limiter. My Victory is happiest from about 3000 rpm up to 5200. I run the shit out of it... 50K miles on the clock and she still pull's like crazy. I usually only use 6th above 75 mph. and if I'm really flogging her I hammer 5th HARD to about 110 to 115 then shift to 6th. Give that a try sometime you'll have a big grin. Just make sure you got plenty of road to run on.

    First indian vs hd video I've seen with these 2 bikes, good job. What gear were you for the first 2 tests? The indian fairing looks quite bigger than the RGS, how was the wind between the 2? How tall are you? I'm 6'4" and ride a victory cross country. One reason i chose the victory is it's more comfortable for me, I can stretch out. The HD'S are a little cramped to me. Per the spec sheets, only about 20 lbs difference between the 2. How did they actually feel?

      In first rollon the Indian was in 5th then went 6th. The RGS was in 6th. In second rollon both were in 6th. Wind behind the was better than the Harley. I`m 6'1" with 34 inch arm length. The Indian felt more spacious. Ive heard they are just a little less than the Vic but very close. The Indian felt much lighter and better balanced with no top heavy feel.

I think the location of the foot board to the seat is just perfect in the Victory. The handle bar is low for my liking and that's all the things I didn't like about the Challenger. The challenger is defiantly is a performer.

If he can get the same results that he did for the Victory 106 motor and for a reasonable amount of money like he did the 106, I know I have one, well then hang on - we shall see. I wish we could of heard the comments between the two of you. It would of been nice to here your thoughts about the two bikes. But with that said I ride a dyna wide glide. I have rode the new Challenger. It was a demo ride so the ride wasn't long enough to get a good feel. I do know this the Challenger was a great ride. The things I did notice is the motor was metric sounding. The engine had rattling sound to it. It didn't have that solid powerful HD sound. Not that it isn't powerful. If you listen to both engines you should be able to hear what I'm talking about. I know the Challenger is not a Harley. But the sound of the Harley is something I like. But everything else about the Challenger I really like. I wish they would of put all the features they offer in the bike at a price point of around 20k. 28k to get the total package puts it out of a lot of peoples price range. I can't see paying 30k out the door for a bike. That's one thing these companies don't get. Once you get past the 20k mark it just don't make sense for the average person to buy on a 60k a year income. Regardless of the brand. I do like both bikes. Love the adjustable windshield. I do feel the Challenger has more bang for the buck if you buying the base model. Now only if it sounded like a Harley!!

    Not to be a hater but this is pretty much a useless comparison the way they were testing. Not saying that the Indian isn’t faster but these bike have different cam profiles, and different gear ratios so these roll ons are not a true depiction of how they close they may be. Take them out and run them with no restrictions as to what gear your in or rpm your at and see how they do. The Indian still may be ahead of the road line but I bet with good riders on both bikes the Road Glide will be a lot closer than most think. It will certainly be closer than what is shown in this video.

  • @BucketRides
    @BucketRides Před 4 lety

    Just as I said in my video. The torque from 2k to 4k rpm is almost the same but above 4k the hp of the liquid cooled engine takes over. Plus the red line of the "Challenger" is higher. It more compares to the goldwing them the air cooled road glide but regardless Harley Davidson has no choice but to raise the bar again like they have been doing since 1903. Not 2011 like Indian.

    I don’t like the fairing or the engine/exhaust sound of the Indian. The performance isn’t that important on these bikes to me. Cruisers, baggers etc are slow and don’t handle for crap anyway. Also don’t need the “tech” so many are raving about to cruise and chill out on a good ride. If I wanna haul ass I’ll take my sport bike. My Harley softail looks and sounds better than any other brand of similar bike. The engine(103) looks sick with the aftermarket covers and the sound of the Vance and Hines slip-ons with the loud baffles has a rumble unlike any metric or Indian. With a lowering kit and custom front fender it also looks much better than the other bikes in my opinion, which to be honest is the only one I care about.

    • @marka1712

      Unruly Rider it’s a cruiser that I use for cruising. I turn on my music and relax and enjoy a chill ride. If you read my comment I would assume you read the entire thing which included “if I wanna haul ass I’ll take my sport bike.” The sport bike is made for the possibility of fun you must be speaking of. I’ve plenty of it and if I’m being honest I enjoy going fast in my car more than on a bike. I’ve driven since I was a kid with a gokarl. Riding is fun but I’m a wheel man, not a biker.

    Embarrassing for HD here however, while you may find the occasional HD rider who leaves his engine stock, most mod the engine to a point where this race would be a lot closer or the HD would be the bike walking away. That modding is a big part of the fun. As much as 50% or more power can be easily coaxed out of HD engines. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the new Challenger. But, unless the aftermarket jumps onboard in a huge way, such that engine mods to the degree of available HD mods, the Challenger isn't gonna sell as well as it could. And that is sad to me.

    Well ride what you like but I looked into Polaris but bought the road glide limited.... the challenger might take it in a race but if I want to race I’ll buy a ninja..(fastest production bike made) .. the 114 I have already rode cross cou try 2 up loaded heavy and always had plenty of power90+ down the interstate... honestly Polaris is plagued with engineering problems and customer service issues even if that wasn’t an issue the bike to me is not as attractive as toe road glide far fewer color options no option for lowers or your pack... and the limited has water cooled heads which makes it run a lot cooler

  • @TheTonguezilla
    @TheTonguezilla Před 4 lety

    Liquid cooled vs. Air-cooled it's apples and oranges. You should also be one gear lower on the Road Glide because it likes higher revs then what we are used to on Harleys. That said, I am glad the Polaris is spanking the Harley. Maybe it will force Harley to up their game. They can make a bike just as good as the Polaris but just flat-out refuse to do it. The Challengers only downfall is that it is dog ass ugly. But in the long run competition is a good thing and hopefully Harley will update and all the areas they've been lacking. The old consumer for HD is getting too old to ride and afford new bikes. The new consumers will not be as against liquid cooling and we'll expect all the features that the Challenger is coming with on the Harleys. Competition will only benefit us all. And even though I will say the Challenger beats the Harley and every way I'll stick with Harley

    I think most riders of these big Vtwin bikes only ride around town, and small/med poker runs Etc...I think that's why you have such bitter infighting and Brand loyalty, But if you TOUR this country, and tour with your Lady most the time too. The engineering upgrades/Features Indian is putting into their cruisers is a BIG DIFFERENCE. when you pack up for 8 days and drive thru thousands of miles of weather, road hazards and experience all conditions, You really start appreciating features some see as Doodads, as major importance to you safety/and comfort. HD has a true Rivalry now, and HD cant go running behind the American flag anymore. Indian is here to stay, HD will step up , They have been hard at work developing new modern Motorbikes in other areas and growing their portfolio , and that Engineering will pay off for their big cruisers too eventually.

If its just power you want, Zippers, T-man, S&S or Fuel Moto just to name a few, can build a killer M8. The Harley don’t have a lot of top end and running in 6th gear at 55-65 mph you ain’t going to keep up. I’ll run my RGS against any challenger from a dig or from a slow roll and I don’t think there will be much of a difference. Just my opinion

The challenger has more top end than the Harley.

    For what its worth - this is like the ol days of whats better Ford or Chevy and then came Chrysler and smoked them all! to me is a brand war nothing more than that. Yes Harley needs to step up to the plate with solid innovation, Polaris is still a Polaris its not the Indian of old, Polaris just purchased a brand name to cash in on, capture a market, study the best selling Harley models, adjust innovate bring to market basically a quicker bike is it better on a dyno yes but longevity maybe not. Now will Indian last, will they go the long distance with miles on the road over time, or will they end up like rice rockets and be worn out within 5 -7 years and due major rebuilds? My old Z1000R would outrun both of these bikes big time. I t only took three years for Indian to build as good a touring bike as Harley sells. More standard options for less money. I have rode both the Roadmaster and ultra limited. Indian rides and handles better than the ultra.
