Interesting move in the 8-8 game where Mochi puts a builder in his outfield (21/15) while exposing himself to a double direct shot instead of adding a builder to his bar point 24/18

he is behinde in the race so he needs to maximize contact

the lights often reflect off one or sometimes both dice. Is there some way to stop this annoyance?

XG Rollout says it's a .071 error to take this. White has horror #s like 3-2 and 4-2 and black has enough ammo in the outfields to keep hitting. And if that fails, black still has a checker on white's 1 point, which will likely get a shot if all else fails.

When Mochi is up 4-1 why does he play the 6-4 so he hits and double exposes himself to a return shot in his inner board?

Haven't played this game in over 30 years, but not impressed with some strategies.

Can't see what the dice says because of the intense glare of the misdirected lights!

The laptop which has my bot doesn't work but Gerry Tansey's drop to go 8-10 down looks really really horrible! The cube action problem is all about whether Mochy should double. Very trivial take. (I think this but haven't botchecked). Any other opinions?

Paul Epstein when Motchy had the 5point board? just the two point open ? I'm not playing for the match there. how many checkers did Gary have off? I drop. but I'm a bad player. ahahba

amtiessen, thanks a lot for replying. I agree that Mochy had a 5 point board. I agree that Mochy had only the two point open. I also agree that playing for the match there would have been uncomfortable. But is what Gerry did (dropping) even worse? Yes, that's why I criticised it. By dropping, he put himself in a situation where he essentially had to win the next two games to win the match. So he gave himself a 25% match-winning probability (you can check this with match-equity tables). Gerry had four checkers off. He would have had two ways of winning -- entering quickly and bringing he checker around or bearing off quickly after being closed out. Playing the game for the match would have given him far more than 25% winning probability and that is what he should have done. Thanks for your modesty about your play. I'm not an expert, but I might be a good player in most contexts. I'm probably more certain about this than my ability warrants. Stick would know, and Mochy would know. In fact, can we ask Mochy? If I can find a way of contacting him, I'll tell him about this thread. Great to see some interest!

amtiessen It's a somewhat close drop -- 0.07 according to XG rollout. So thinking about it a long time and then dropping is exactly the right response. I need to get XG. Anyway, good that the players did the right thing here. I misunderstood the position. 0.07 is very close cubewise so there are probably some great players who would have taken, but dropping is slightly better.

Yeah I think that accepting and playing for the match when he could easily get closed out is not the better option

Gerry's drop was spot on. Roller++ shows it as a dead even decision, but rolling it out shows the drop was the right move and taking would have actually been an error. Mochy's cube action was, of course, spot on, too....not redoubling there would have been a blunder.
