They dedicated this song for the Olympics Barcelona 1992. And Montserrat said to Freddie "we will sing it together in Barcelona" and he said "I won't be able to be there". Then he told her he was dying and probably wouldn't make it that long. They became very close friends. She said she was so honored that he told her, cause he didn't tell many. They did use the recording to open the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992. :(
Imagine If only they could have performed this live at the 1992 Olympics.
Freddie said he was honored that a super star like her agree to meet a simple man like him.
He was a big fan of her. He sad she had the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. This was like a dream come true for Freddie. In an interview with Montserrat she said: ''I loved Freddie and he loved me. I think those people that were touched by Freddie couldn't help but fall in love with him''
He never had any advanced professional vocal training in his life. He was a natural talent, and he developed his voice on his own.

They are so perfectly matched. Freddie brings that bombastic voice & personality. Montserrat brings those perfect vocals that are unmatched by any female singer. Normally it disappoints when two giants get together but this was absolutely magnificent. Its so powerful & both stars get to shine brightly in their very own unique style.
This was written by Freddie Mercury as a duet to show his admiration for her voice.

Freddie!!
Freddie and Mike Moran wrote the songs in the album for Montserrat at her request. They were going to do one song, and Freddie sent her a tape of what he had written, singing her part as well. She liked it so well, after meeting with him, and hitting it off, she wanted to know how many songs in an album. Freddie said 10, she replied, then lets do an album. It's a beautiful compilation of musical talent, and the videos are beautiful as well. This was before "the 3 tenors", and no one had ever blended opera with another genre. Montsy said in an interview a few years later that she had been approached about singing with someone else, but she said only Freddie, no one else, she just couldn't sing outside of opera with anyone but Freddie. She passed away a couple of years ago. A great singer, and a great lady.
I am so glad you love this song. It gives me chills everytime I listen to ghem sing together. This made Freddie so very happy

Great reaction! We can see that you can feel the awesomeness of this song! Yes, she had that wonderful, shining soprano, and Freddie's voice had recovered after more than one year without touring, and was really fabulous on that album. Now they both sing in heaven...
It was the time in 1987 when Freddie recieved the HIV diagnosis, developed some symptomes, but still felt well. But he knew that there was no cure, and that he wouldn't have much time left. Music was what held him upright. After the Barcelona album (all are wonderful songs, my favourite is "How can I go on"), he also participated in two more Queen albums, and even kept recording although he knew that the next album won't be finished before he died.
He became immortal!

Freddie was a big fan of Montserrat. He said she had the greatest voice he had ever heard. Montserrat heard about this and contacted Freddie to do a project with her. She was so impressed with Freddie that she wanted to do a whole album with him. He was over the moon excited about working with her. He wrote the songs and even did some demos to send to her where he sang his part and hers. You should listen to Exercises in Free Love. He wrote it as an impersonation of Montserrat's vocal style. He released a version of it on the Album The Great Pretender, The Freddie Mercury album and the Solo Collection. There was a 2nd version released on Barcelona with Montserrat's vocalization. The melody was later used on a song called Ensueno with lyrics written by Montserrat. Freddie sounds like an angel on Exercises in Free Love. The Golden Boy is another great song he did with Montserrat. It is sad that Freddie didn't get to sing Barcelona live at the Olympics in 1992. There is no telling how much more timeless masterpieces Freddie would have created had he lived. He and Montserrat became very close friends and she was one of the people he confided in that he had aids. He didn't confide in many people. She was devastated when he died. On another note, i am so glad you are back, i missed your reactions so much. I love your kind energy and joy you bring to your reactions. Thank you for coming back to CZcams, i thought maybe you had quit and thank you for reacting to Queen. Maybe at some point you could do another full concert. The last one you did was so much fun to watch live with you and other fans.

Ok, yes, Freddie was unique, great composer, great rock singer, but singing he's not half the voice and technique that Montserrat had, and yes, she did only sing but she is one of the best opera singers of all times. My props to the both of them... the thing is everybody knows Freddie because rock is more popular than Opera... but Montserrat was the "Freddie" of the opera
